This is My problem
In short, my Computer died on Dec 24, I had to get a new harddrive. I started from scratched reinstalling windows and all that stuff. But when I connect my iPod that message pops up. (I reinstalled itunes twice) I don't know if it is the fact that I am sick but I can't figure out how to put the music that is in my iPod to my computer. I can't even put music to my iPod because that message pops up. I did try to check this problem on the website but gave up after I realized that my brain was about to explode. |

What the message is saying:
Do you want to erase everything on your iPod and replace it with the music that is currently in your iTunes. Another translation: Do you want to format your iPod, and then move all the music iTunes sees onto your iPod? I hope this helps. |

iTunes does not let you copy music from an iPod onto the computer. You have to find a different program to do that. I've heard of such programs, but I don't know any names.
In any case: copying music from an iPod onto a computer is not endorsed by Apple so you won't find any official programs to do it. |

Neo: Basically exchanging the 30 plus albums I have in my iPod for the two albums I recently got yesterday?
Zem: Ah, now that I know iTunes doesn't do that, it helps matters. I can look for such programs and if I find one, that solves my problem. |

I think there's one called gtkPod or possibly gnuPod. Not sure if it runs on Windows though. | |||

Originally posted by Thoughtless iTunes may not let you retrieve your music but there is another way. If you are using windows, then the iPod should also become a USB drive on your computer. So, connect your iPod to the computer, open My Computer, enable hidden files and enter the drive that represents your iPod. You should see an exposed hidden folder. Enter that folder and you should see at least 3 more folders. One of them is titled "Music" Enter that and now you should see 50 folders titled "F0" through "F49" or something like that. If you look within one of the folders, you should see your music. All you have to do now is copy all 50 folders to your hard drive, then tell iTunes to import music from there. Now you have all your music back from your iPod. |

neotransotaku:
Hooray! It worked! Big thanks. I had previously tried the programs Zem and Hyper Hacker mentioned but I was only able to retrieve my video files. It wouldn't let me transfer my songs. Said something concerning 'source not available' or such. But anyhoo, problem solved. Thanks everyone for your help/suggestions. |

Easy way you could see which folder has the music in it via the command line:
cd wherever\Music dir /s /b *.mp3 This will list the location of any MP3 file within Music or its subfolders. |
