Well I created this layout quite a while ago but now I and trying to think of a way to improve it. If you have got any critisms of the layout or ideas that I could use to improve it give me a shout. (I'm definately ain't gonna show you a quote box till I sort out some sort of colour coordination.)
EDIT: I don't think that the graphics are too big but if anyone feels otherwise then say so. (edited by firemaker on 01-06-06 10:27 AM) |

The quote box, you know, can be seen while viewing your profile. In my opinion, I think it's the user bars below that throws off the color of your layout (because it's basically red, and well, your userbars are green). Other than that, I can't really come up with anything....

It doesn't stretch to fit the screen, the image is bigger than your textbox, the textbox is TINY, it scrolls, and you have a longass sig in it so that pretty much all of your posts require the stupid scroll bar.
Can't you make the box bigger so that it fits the screen? At least a little better? |

My major critique is that it doesn't stretch. I'm not fond of scrollbar layouts, (as I've mentioned several times in other threads), and yours in particular is just too small.
Personally, I'd set a background color that is a similar red to your picture. I'd use CSS to define that background area, and use CSS to align your picture to the bottom right corner of a DIV. Then I'd set a text area DIV and define its parameters so that it sits to the left of your picture but stretches (both up and sideways) to fill in the post space, with perhaps some room for the background to act as a border. |

Made some edits according to tarales advice. Still not competely finished though. All i need to do is change the colour of the text background. (edited by Tarale on 01-07-06 06:08 AM) |

Refresh the CSS. It's very different. Yes, you implemented some of them, but not in the way you meant, and you did so in a way that conflicted with the style you had going, and turned it into... A generic mess. I can only hope it loaded wrong or something.

Hmm... it still looks odd; and this is in part due to the fact that your picture has a border around it.
I'd probably still be making a few changes personally. The picture isn't aligned bottom-right, and that's still where I'd put it. I'd add a border to your text area. Maybe a shade or two darker than your background red; seeing as how red is more or less the motif we've gone with here. In addition to the border paramaters in the CSS, I'd use the red background also as a thicker border -- do this by defining the margin around your CSS element. I'd use bigger writing. I just don't find that that size writing is the best for things that you actually want people's attention to be drawn to (and then read). It's great for signatures or links or such; but you're better to stick with a larger font for your main post. Preferably in Arial, Verdana or Tahoma, as these are the best fonts to read on screen (for the love of god do not pick a serif font like Times New Roman -- it becomes difficult to read longer blocks of text onscreen with it (but it's best for printed word)) For additional readability, make sure to set a nice amount of padding within your CSS element so it doesn't sit too close to the borders. I'd experiment with removing the border in your picture / blending your picture into the same color as your red background. See what you can do / what gives the best effect. EDIT: You also need to be aware of this problem that your layout is causing. Close your div tags and use the @import way of using CSS. Sorry about the little problem. I've removed my layout and won't use it until I find out whhat is causing the problem. Because it's stop lololol dead with me. Give me 2 hours or so and then hopefully I will have sorted it out.
EDIT: I think I shall also be changing my file hoster. My current one's appear to have shit up time. (edited by firemaker on 01-07-06 08:56 AM) |

There is a post of yours I've edited in this thread which doesn't seem to be causing the problems that were messing everybody up.
I changed the CSS to @import and I closed your div tags. |
