ONLY TESTED FOR WINDOWS
Awhile ago I asked how to play Final Fantasy 7 (PC) without the CDs. Now that I know how I want to share my knowledge. I'll explain how I did it with FF7 so you will get the genreal idea. Start by Fully Installing the game. Befor you restart your PC, make a new file names "Movies", put all the movies from all 3 CD in this file. Now restart. You will need an an ISO application and an image mounter. -ISO- I recommend ISO Magic because it's free and allows you to remove stuff from the ISO so it will be 66KB instead of 700MB! -IMAGE MOUNTER- I use NERO but DAEMON's Tools is free. This is a virtual cd/dvd-rom emulator. It tricks the PC into thinking there is another CD DRIVE and will mount your 66KB image. Now with that mounted and over with, it's time to manipulate some registry files. Open Registry Editor Then open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --- Software === Squaresoft inc === Final Fantasy VII There are 2 things in the list you need to modify. Datadrive Moviepath Change the datadrive to whatever letter Daemon's Tool is assigned to and change the movies file directory to wherever you put them. ---END OF TUTORIAL--- Other games might need more than just movies so pay attention to what is required after full installation. This isn't rocket science. (edited by Bane King on 12-22-05 10:24 AM) |

And if you're gonna do that, you might as well just use Nero and rip the entire ISO...

although hes talking about mini-iso, which are small so you dont have to have the entire iso on your pc and mounted if you have limited space.

Also, shouldn't this be considered a crack unless the developer released it?

it's not a crack because it still requires the cd

it probably would be considered one if you were to release it to the public...but I do it for most of my games just so I dont have to put in a different CD when I play different games.

It would be illegal to release images but that's what rules are for. The rules clerify that illegal images are forbidin. IE-roms,ISOs, ect...
One more thing I did for get to mention is that all loadtimes...are killed. (based on PC preformance) (edited by Bane King on 12-23-05 03:49 PM) |
