I know it's possible, I've seen plenty of hacks with SMB3 music. It's not only with SMB3, is it?

SMB3 and SMB1 patches are available. You should be able to find them somewhere under the Useful Links sticky.
That's it, though. Music hacking isn't something that just anyone can do. As far as I know, only Blackhole89 and DJ Bouche have any real experience in that department. Blackhole89 was working on a music editor, but it hasn't been released yet. |

Hmm, I wonder if that music program allows you to insert your own mp3s in the mario game....

peter: They are n00bs, they don't wish to read the rules first. I know, sad...
smouvy: blackhole89 is working on such a program but no word has come of it for awhile... I wouldn't bother him. |

Mp3s? No way. Never. Possibly MIDI or MOD files.
Well, unless you rewrite the entire sound code to play directly from the Rom, like d4s did, but that doesn't count. (edited by Sleighhacker on 12-21-05 04:30 PM) |

Smouvy, change your text color to black. It's impossible to read...

d4 did an experimental mp3 player for SMW, but is was too buggy and incompatible with regular gameplay SFX, so he cancelled, AFAIK.
And no, blackhole89 isn't working on solar soundtrack to insert mp3's, just to change the music using the current format already there. |

You can't make "actual" MP3 support work with the SNES, just because the SPC and most likely not even the 65c816 itself have enough processing power to decode these in realtime. What d4s did was converting something he got in MP3 format into BRR (the native sample compression format of the SPC-700) and then letting the SNES stream it into his custom SPC program that played it back.
As for Solar Soundtrack... I am working on it. As I implement stuff I was planning to, I get more and more new ideas and eventually end up thinking they should be implemented before the release. Work expands as to fill in the time given for its completion. - That bonmot has a critical aspect to it when there are no serious deadlines like in my case. |

I've like to have it soon. If I'm working on hacks not on SMB3 or SMW music, Its about time I need a different music file.

I would also like the music editor.
I have a question, though - would it be possible to put in Genesis music on a Super Mario World hack? I'm supposing not, but if I were to insert Ristar music, I wonder how it would sound.... Well, even if you couldn't put Genesis music in, I could just use midis and insert them. I'm a midi expert anyway, so that ought not to be too hard. ...which brings up another question. Is there / will there be a way to make midis loop at a certain point, rather than just repeat the song, beginning to end? |
