Have you had a mod chip installed into one of your systems and what are your opinions on mod chips?
I have never had a mod chip. I just buy my games and I hope that a mod chip does not come out for Wii. |

I soft-modded my X-Box. Best choice - ever.
Depending on how kick ass Euro/Jap. games are for the Wii I may have to consider modding the poor girl. |

Originally posted by Ziff Totally, absolutely, indubitably. The stuff you can do with a softmodded xbox and a proper harddrive is amazing. I've got a modded 7501 PSX and a DMS3 in my PS2. (Mind, I still have over 80 original PS2 games, despite the chip...) I've got a copier for my SNES, and a flashcart for my GBA. Great stuff. I'd like to get an Xbox or X360 and mod it to use as some sort of media center without the typical restrictions and/or the need to actually put the game discs in the drive every time I want to play them. Is it possible to use a modded X360 on Xbox Live though?
Also I softmodded (FlashMe'd) my DS using the Download Play exploit (firmware version 1 ), because DS homebrew rocks. Originally posted by Higsby Too late. (edited by HyperHacker on 02-16-07 02:16 AM) |

I haven't actually modded the hardware, but I've used software to run crap on GBA and Nintendo DS. | |||

Originally posted by luigi You're the reason that, to a degree, mod chips piss me off. I still buy games, extensively. The fact of the matter, though, is that soft-modding my X-Box allowed me to augment my collection and use my X-Box as a bitching media centre. |

There are a few Wii modchips (WiiKey, Wiinja, CycloWiiz) already since it used pretty much the same protection as the Gamecube. (Honestly, WTF? All they did was change the "password" to lowercase and move the serial port!) FYI, Gamecube using minidiscs didn't help at all.
People who just get a mod chip and download all their games are annoying, but in the Wii's case it's not too bad because Nintendo doesn't rely on the "lose money on consoles, make it up on games" strategy. However, modded consoles = homebrew, which can be awesome. The DS has assorted emulators, media players, PDA-like organizers, and a bunch of games. The Wii has some great potential for a media center program of some sort. Also, modded console + hard drive = running games off the hard drive, for those too lazy to actually get up and put a disc in. And of course, modded consoles = ROM hacks. Though none of this is true yet on Wii thanks to some sort of digital signature silliness. I can't help wonder why they bothered to sign the games, but didn't fix the holes that were in the Gamecube.
