I'm a little confused - I thought the SMB1 sources got released (or maybe rewritten from scratch... that got posted on the previous board), and so that, basically, SMB1 "hacking" was no longer necessary ?

It's easier to work with 16x16 tiles, than the standard SMB level data. It's also fun to change big parts of game engines also.

That's awesome... can't really say much else.
So you made SMB work with a tilemap system? Or am I just confused? |

exactly Imajin. That way I can create levels in a hex editor easily and as complex as a level as I want. I also had to overcome the original game's tile hit detection system because any tile that wasn't 00 was conisdered solid, so I couldn't have background tiles, but that's all nice and changed now

I like the idea of levels changing based on how many coins you get. Perhaps to make it simpler, you could have those changes occure at midway points, and it could be like one of 5 things, each with several parimitars, like no high obsticles or anything.
Or, how about instead of a coin system, you could have a key type powerup that changes the level if you get one. Dunno, just a suggestion. I know powerup hacking is possible. |

DD,
What mapper are you going to use for the expanded ROM? (edited by beneficii on 12-19-05 09:11 PM) |

Man... I gotta say you are like the best hacker ever... I cant even figure out how to put upside down pipes in my mario hack...or edit levels without a level editor.

I told you on IRC: make a metroid-style exploration game using this engine. Maybe something more akin to games like Goonies 2 and the like.

Wow... That looks.... Really, really nice.
But no backwards, or vertical scrolling? Damn. Would be nice to have just a little bit of vertical scrolling, and allow for more level oppritunities... However, this is damn sexy. |
