the only console I can think of that can rival it is the ps2 and thats cause its been out like twice as long. I mean here is a portable that basically does everything on top of its amazing game library.
loco roco, megamans, exit, wipeout, two gta games with their own story lines and characters, metal gear acid 1 + 2, tekken, sonic rivals, daxter, tokobots, burnout, coded arms, kingdom of paradise, socom 2, killzone, rachet and clank, every extent extra, bomberman, pirates, lumanites and lumanites 2,medal of honor, and now castlevania. Its amazing the range of different games it also has from great cutesey 2d game slike roco loco and megaman pu to realistic 3d stealth games liek metal gear solid that the ps3 doesnt even have yet. |

The psp is good for homebrew, emulation, and the ocasional good game ex. CASTLEVANIA!!!!! Other than that, I don't see much to get excited over. The DS surpasses it in online play... that is if you have friends for the damned friend codes.
So basically both systems have their flaws but I'm not put off by the psp so much that I wont buy one for CASTLEVANIA!!!!!!!! and emulation. |

the psp has waay better online play. For instance in socom 2 as well as emdal of honor you can play with like 16 people, in metroid for the ds you can only play with liek 4. But the online play sucks for both compared to the ngage cause you need to be within range of a wifi which means unless your at home its pretty much useless, unliek the ngage where you could use it anywhere and anytime.
Cirvania Cyball I guess this is as close as Xkeeper will get to spell it right. :< Since: 11-17-05 From: The Island of Puerto Rico. Last post: 6434 days Last view: 6432 days |

Failure.
As Tanks said, the PSP is better for homebrew, media and nothing else. (And some damn great homebrew it has, I admit.) The games currently out for it do not justify the "OMG PSP >>>> DS" reaction. Sure, it has LocoRoco, Lumines, Exit, MGS: PO and holyfucking Rondo, but that's about it. The way I see it: PSP <= DS Better homebrew - Better games Better media capability - Good media capability, but requires modchip/flashcarts Better wifi - slower wifi Slightly annoying controls (analog nub ftl) - Better control, touch screen Less resilient - Much more resilient Greater chance of dead pixels - less dead pixels Built-in browser - Add-on browser Less stable firmwares - More stable firmware Short battery life - Decent battery life |

To me, the short battery life of the PSP is the only factor I need to decide I don't want one. I mean, for any given portable system, that's about one of the most debilitating flaws one could have.

Well, it isn't THAT bad.
But seriously, not enough people use Dark Alex's OE-X Firmware. But the game library isn't that good. (but powerstone collection with 4 people is fun). XLink Kai Evolution makes online play possible for most games. But I don't go "its amazing". It's good, but not for the purposed it was intended for. (and I don't see what people don't like about the controls, they're perfectly fine) |

Aren't they making a new PSP? I bet it has better battery life. I'm also just wondering if anyone knows off the top of their head if there is a N64 emulator for psp?

Originally posted by Tanks Yes, there is an N64 emulator for the PSP. I believe it is called Daedalus. I did a lot of research about emulation on the PSP last weekend. |

forgot about exit and exit 2, those games are addicting and probably longer and more challenging than any 2d ds game even. Most ds games ar ejust too short and easy imo.

Yeah. PSP has started to gain ground because DS developers have sold themselves out more than ever and are now producing games with little or no budget. Part of the reason is that the DS hardware was made far too similar to GBA's. Countless DS games are either ports/remakes (i.e. Phoenix Wright 1/2, excellent games by the way) or sequels poorly trying to hide their obvious GBA origin (like Advance Wars, this is decent).
It saddens me. DS is capable of matching PSP on technical terms. Metroid Prime Hunters for one shows that. Or say, Hotel Dusk Room 215 that uses an original IP to great effect. |

*blinks* Erm... you never checked out the GBA game library or the GBC one, did you? Portable systems are prime opportunities for developers to churn out crap and hope it sells. You're going to get your good games and a ton of stinkers or games made on a tiny budget. |

Did you even look at the PSP libary? There's many ports, remakes or straight sequels there as well. If not more in some cases.

The battery life isn't as bad as you may have been led to believe. As long as you're not fooling around with anything involving wireless access, it can last quite a while.
Originally posted by Xeo BelmontOriginally posted by Sweet Kassy Molassy That's what the PSP's sleep function is for. To stop gameplay so you can pick up on it where you left off later. So if you're low on batteries in a middle of a fight, just put it into sleep mode, recharge it, and continue playing after it's done (or play while it's charging). Why even mention the DS?
I won't argue that. All in all, I'm not much of a handheld gamer either way. But, beyond Metal Gear Solid games and the upcomming Rondo of Blood remake, the PSP has never really appealed to me at all. Can't say I've touched my DS either since I beat Portrait of Ruin. forgot to mention ace combat x, monster hunter, and field commander, more top notch games on the psp. And exit has 100 levels plus 100 you can download, how many other games can you think that offer this much replay value?
