Lufia 2 was awesome as well... though I didn't know nor find the Ancient Cave before playing it in an emulator. I used savestate loading twice in beating it, once when I tab-boosted through an unexpectedly tough battle and died and once when I miscalculated my step count on one of the lower floors with those really fast guys abundant.
Ancient Slime appreciated me as a great warrior for knowing when it's the right moment to commit seppuku, apparently. |

Well, nobody's mentioned Paladin's Quest yet. It's hardly comparable to other RPGs mentioned already, but it made a good impression on me.
And yes, Earthbound FTW. |

The pictures I saw of Paladin's Quest looked like a bunch of pastel colors stuck together. Bad first impression. | |||

Yeah, it's definitely Pastel-adin's Quest, but you cast spells with HP, hire mercenaries as party members, and can control combat with only your left hand. Still, it's second-rate to others mentioned already. But the somewhat-artsy style of things was appealing even if the majority of colors were best suited for baby-clothing.
I just acquired Live a Live last night, and so far it's damn good. I've only started the Cowboy quest, but it's already made me wish I had less time to spend reading for class. Thanks to anyone who's suggested that! |

I stand by my belief that Illusion of Gaia (Or Time, in PAL) is better than Terranigma, despite Terranigma being the sequel.
But that's just my opinion. |
