What exactly are they suing for?
It almost looks like they're suing for a joystick being used for.. Anything at all? That's gonna go great, because Nintendo didn't have a controller out before the patent or anything. Hell, Sony may have as well... Maybe even Microsoft.. |

Umm, sounds like it could be a patent on the port used to transfer analog signal?
I dunno. (edited by NSNick on 01-11-07 03:45 AM) |

I don't know about US Patent Laws, but isn't it prohibited to patent anything which can not be proved to be unique and new and stuff? (That's why you can't patent the waterheating process and stuff). |

Their joystick was digital, not analog. Also, the bidirectional port could imply that the port is capable of sending information to the controller vis-a-vis memory cards, rumble, etc. | |||

Don't know if this guy is telling the truth, but interesting if he is:

Let those silly lawsuits come, so they eventually redo the flawed patent laws.
You don't need to be a lawyer to see that those lawsuits won't lead anywhere anyway. |

You'll never change patent laws. Just like you'll never change me being an asshole. They're irreversible and probably worse off for everyone.
Also, yeah. You see that is a bad strategy. If the Big 3 are working together on a court case there is NO WAY you can win. That is a lot of money that you're spending on a flimsy ass case. |

Geez, if all three companies actually DID fight this lawsuit together... night-night Fenner Investments.
They get a settlement if they're LUCKY, no way in hell they win this. |

Surely they'll get some sort of settlement... almost all civil suits are settled out of court. It's just how corporations do things. It's usually considered a better alternative than paying attorney fees, court costs, and any potential losses if things don't go the defendant's way.
I think my environmental law prof said that 96% of all civil suits were settled out of court, but don't take that to the bank... |

As an investment company, I'm sure they have no problem forking out money to lawyers to sue these three to keep this patent, which will then force the three companies to either A) Race for a bigger offer to buy the patent, or B) simply engineer another system for their peripherals.
This way, everyone wins. |

But, as stated, the patent has no relevance here. (edited by Alastor on 01-15-07 03:26 PM) |

Good to see one of the patent holders speaking out against whoever filed the suit. Especially because said person's going to get... how you say...

Originally posted by NSNickEven then, I believe that analogue joysticks have been around for quite awhile, such as the "game port" on some sound cards. |
