I have a question, AMD 64 bits is compatible with all the software of 32 bits?? I know that exists Windows XP 64 bit-edition, but anothers programs, like Office, Visual Studio, etc. Are they compatibles? Thanks

Yes, it should be. The AMD64 instruction set is compatible with 32-bit programs, or so I heard. Only the IA-64 instruction set isn't, but it's only used for Itanium procs.

AMD64 (or x86_64 as many call it) is also compatible with 32-bit and 16-bit operating systems (running the processor in legacy mode).
In order to run 32-bit programs on your 64-bit OS, it has to have an emulation layer of a sort. WinXP 64-bit has one built in, but it's not very good at it. Things like Linux or *BSD also have layers, but you usually need to install extra stuff. |
