I noticed this in someone's sig and wrote a PHP script to parse the website's page, since they lacked an all-three image and I needed to make sure PHP still worked after reinstalling Windoze.

| Heh at how the Wii is beating out the PS3.
(it even works if you go by gross income, (in straight american dollars for simplicity) Wii: 770,000 * 249 = 191,730,000 PS3: 290,000 * 599 = 173,710,000 and that's rounding up to the nearest 10,000, which gives the PS3 more extra units at this point than the Wii (+8500 for Ps3, +4400 for Wii) Really neat script too HH; it makes me want to get better at PHP. | Basically, as the cost per console is now.
The more consoles Nintendo sells, the roughtly more they earn short-term. The more Sony sells the more they lose short-term.  And both of thoose consoles are getting sold out now everywhere... I seen places stopping preorders here in Sweden too. :/ I doubt if I can play Wii at home at christmas, but then i'm not planning to get one personally quite yet.
Oh yeah, I have no idea how X-box 360 is doing financially wise though it have a year ahead. (edited by Ailure on 11-23-06 02:25 PM) |

| Sources disagree on exactly how much money Sony is losing per unit (and I haven't heard a value on how much Nintendo makes per unit)
But, assuming Sony loses $200 on every console it sells ($200 being the lowest figure I've heard), it's made back ~$173,710,000 out of ~$261,000,000 that it lost in producing the units, for a net loss of ~$87,290,000. And that doesn't factor in the (admittedly few) PS3s that they haven't sold yet. |
