Is it possible to change what level a certain Layer 1 tile will go to? For an example, take a look at Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. For Mt. Teapot, Course 10 became Course 13 when you hit the Giant ! Block in Course 12. I want to do a similar thing- Change what level a Level Tile goes to! Maybe it's possible with ASM, maybe it's not. I just want to know.

I believe it is possible if you use Layer 1 event tiles, but I'm not sure about it. I personally have never tried to do it myself - you may not be able to set what level it goes to. If not, then using ASM is the only way.

Okay. I'll try it using Layer 1 Event Editor, but something tells me it won't work... I'll try ASM later, after I try my hand at using it to make Custom Blocks.

My initial thought was "no", but with most things, there's a way around it by making custom blocks.
Let's make this easier. Level 1 is the level that you want this tile to go to before the event is passed, and Level 2, after. You would need to make a third level, Level 3, which needs not hold anything more than one screen and a pipe. On Level 3, the first screen will exit to Level 1. On top of the pipe, you would need to place the custom block. The custom block will check if this event has been passed, and if it has, it will change first screen's exit to Level 2, thus making that pipe lead to Level 2. I probably made this sound far more complicated than it really is. Learning to make custom blocks like this will be very worth while. |

...Not exactly the way I wanted to work it, but it works nonetheless. Okay! It'll help once I try using ASM...

Actually, you can quite easily use a 'level exit' block in blocktool, set its gfx to a question block with a grey pallete, and then use layer 1 'reveal' tiles. (the ghost house button with a star)
By doing so, you can open up another path elsewhere in the overworld that the player could take. If you set up the 'enable [direction]' buttons in the way the path-that's-not-there-yet will go, then when you beat the 'grey block' level, have it reveal the layer 2 path, level tile, and layer 1 path. If you have it set up correctly, beating level 'A' would give you access to level 'X' without any direct path connecting the two. (edited by ZTaimat on 10-22-06 09:54 AM) |
