It's a conspiracy plot! Tarale just wants our money! I found you out Tarale!

Do you have time to do odd jobs? You apparently have a cleaning thing, so can't you just clean some random people's houses to make an extra $2,500?

Uh... I don't think I can do that -- I mean, I work full time; I'd be cleaning people's houses at 11pm and they wouldn't want that. Cleaners are something in demand during daytime hours when the owners are out of the house.

Besides, 12 days isn't long to organise that.

I think I'm going to have to sell my PC. And my iPod.

This blows... If I had money in PayPal or something like that I'd gladly offer to donate a little bit but sadly, I don't.

Urgh...

I'm considering commissioned artwork as an option; but the time restraints make that a bit iffy -- after all I need a way to get cashmoney fast from overseas in those cases

Well, there's always PayPal and other such services. They're really the only options to get the money within that timespan unless people could wire money to you.

See, I don't like PayPal -- it scares me. I've heard so much negative stuff about it it sounds like yet another financial disaster waiting to happen to me

I'm not sure I trust any of the web based systems with money actually, they all freak me out. The last thing I need is more problems with my money, I have enough of those

I think I might need to concentrate on budgeting and selling my PC and/or iPod But I don't want to sell either.

What happens if you don't pay on time? It seems to me that most credit companies, no matter how agressive, just want their money. They don't care when.

They have stated that if I do not pay on time they will pursue a court ruling against me and then file for a bankruptcy.

Yeah... and plenty of collection companies threaten the same thing. I would try to get as much money as possible by their deadline but I wouldn't stress out too much about the actual deadline. In the time it would take to get something like that through the courts you would have paid them by then anyways.

Considering that this has been 3 years overdue; no, they will litigate. It's not a collection company that's calling me, it's lawyers.

They have made clear their exact intentions regarding litigation very clear.

I know how damaging the bankruptcy thing would be, but... How much damage would the court appeal do on top of that if you can't make ends meet by then?

Okay, from memory, bankruptcy entails:

* I cannot travel overseas
* I cannot own a car worth more than $5,000
* Property which I own can and will be seized and sold off to pay for debts
* I will not be able to get a loan or anything for at least 5 years
* It remains on my record forever and ever
* a whole bunch more stuff that sucked

I can't remember now, but I spent some time researching it back with the $27,000 thing. And I dodged that bullet back then, but not by much.

No, not forever, just long enough to make things difficult for a while, most of them, and it being on my record forever will make it nigh-impossible to get a loan for a very long time...

I think the only way I'm allowed to travel overseas is with the permission of my Trustee / creditors. So it would depend on them; but frankly things go so poorly for me in general I'm inclined to believe they'd say no...

Permission from creditors to travel? Damn, talk about archaic. I thought that practice was abandoned 200 years ago (it was here). I can guarintee you 100% that that is a fairly serious violation of a number of UN resolutions as well as several international treaties. Remind me to never EVER travel to Austrailia.

We have basically the opposite system here. If you lived in the US, you would be off the hook and your ex would be serving a 10-20 year prison sentence. You know what's even nicer about living in the US. Foreign creditors aren't permitted to collect from US citizens. I owe nearly $1000 in taxes to the area of Scotland I was living in in 04-05 and I'm having fun thumbing my nose at them and telling off the creditors when they call because they legally can't touch me because I'm a US citazen and they arent a US entity.

See, the problem is he did this all under my business name -- which is legally my name. And I have no way of proving that it wasn't me, that it was him.

So, I'm legally responsible for the lot of it, because he was "clever" enough to do it under my name.

That's not the thing that cheeses me off the most. I'm actually getting kinda used to (if not worn down by and depressed by) the debt issues.

The thing that really hurts is when I mention what has happened and creditors turn around and accuse me of being a fraud. As has happened two days ago, which sent me into a fairly severe little depression.

Considering the seriously fucking messed up legal structure you seem to be under, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if you could manage to apply for asylum in some other country. I'm almost positive that alot of those bankrupcy restrictions violate a large number of UN resolutions.

Well, I've been reading the bankruptcy stuff again:

with travel:
Any person who is an undischarged bankrupt must obtain written permission from their trustee to leave Australia.

The trustee of the bankruptcy may impose written conditions where consent is given to travel. This may include payment of any contributions liability as assessed before permission is granted (see current amounts for current income threshold amounts).

Failure to return to Australia when requested by the trustee can result in the bankruptcy being extended by a period of 5 years from a bankrupt's return.

Permission is not required once a person is discharged from bankruptcy or the bankruptcy has been annulled.

And then there's amount restriction on things, like tools
Tools
A bankrupt may keep tools used to earn an income up to a certain limit ($3 150*)

Vehicles
A bankrupt may keep vehicles (cars or motorbikes) used mainly for
transport up to a limit. This combined limit refers to the equity in the
vehicles (the value of the vehicles less the sum owing under finance). ($6 150*)

And Credit Limits
It is a criminal offence for a bankrupt person to obtain or attempt
to obtain credit in certain circumstances. Severe penalties apply
to these offences.

And things like your pay being docked to contribute toward the debt. And all around just not fun...
