The Bugatti Veyron is an insane car. True, it's not a car that will go down in history as a classic car, but I don't think any rational person would turn down a ride in one. I certainly wouldn't.

Most of the negative comments here I think are justified but on the harsh side. Responding to ||bass' comments, 99% of all considered classic cars of eastern, european and western original are production cars. For instance, what about the Jaguar E-Type, the Mini, The Porsche 911. All of these are classic cars held in the highest regard with a genuine motorsport pedigree- and all production cars. All of these cars have also had years of experience and love put into their design and manufacture. They sold so well and became classics because they are excelent cars that anybody could buy and enjoy not just enthusiasts who had the time and the money to put into making hot-rods.

Using a "256 mph" monstrosity of a car is also not the most effective way to criticise the Veyron, either Pot, meet Kettle...

In other news, I would probably go for a Koenigsegg CCX than a Veyron. They're both demon-cars, but the Koenigsegg is built with a little more love, wisdom and science than the brute-force Veyron.

An honourable mention also goes out to the Top Gear 200mph Lotus Esprit. A 200mph supercar done on the cheap was a very tall order, but I think it did an amazing job under the circumstances.

Go to London, you're bound to see a handful of them on a given weekend (maybe it's only one and the owner is just driving it around because that's all I'd do if I had the money to own a car that crazy fast). But yeah, moving to London, I never thought I'd see so many increadibly expensive cars. Automobile mag did an article on the Veyron a while back, and one of the test drivers nearly carrined the car into a wall on the Laguna Seca raceway. Managed to stop his slide/spin less than a foot away from the wall. And I'd take a 911 GT3 any day over a veyron, just me, and I'd save a shit load of money in the process.

how can it be an empty shell with no soul when (although I didn't) so many people worked on it. It had so many problems and shit. Took 'em like 4 or 5 years to make it. They really stretched the engineering envelope as far as they could.

I think he refers to the styling and dedication put into the more familiar 'Classic' cars rather than this exercise in "How fast can I make a car go?" Which, at least to me, lacks style, in the way drag racing super-fast rocket car thingies look more like pencils with wheels than cars.

Any car worth the time of day of even looking at has had years of personal loving work done to it. Even those peice of shit rice rockets have more soul to them than that fugly pos. It's looks like a cross between the batmobile and a clown car. Gimme Joe Shmoe's personal attempt to copy the Callaway Sledgehammer any day.

Soooo true. At least some ricers take loving caare of their car and spend almost all their money on it. The person who boughtt it did not spend 4 years rebuilding the engine from scratch or welding new aero-bodykits. No he jsut bought the damn thing!
