Does anyone know how the graphics for the tiles and characters are stored in Shining Force? Only parts of the GUI seem to be stored in the 4BPP Genesis format. Evertything else seems to not be viewable with any standard format.

Although I know zero about Genesis hardware, the obvious answer is:
compression. |

Right, I was just hoping someone knew the compression methods they may have used. I'm working on it myself, but no need to reinvent the wheel is someone here knows.
EDIT: Ok, it uses Huffman coding to compress the data. One small step in the right direction. (edited by rubixcuber on 09-24-06 04:16 PM) (edited by rubixcuber on 09-24-06 04:18 PM) |

Hm, the Nemesis Compression format (I think it's a form of LZ, but not sure) is very often used in Genesis games, and theres a searcher program available for it on several sonic ROM hacking sites.

Nope, not Nemesis. I'm prerry sure it's not Kosinski, Kosinski Moduled, Enigma or Saxman either but I haven't totally ruled those out. |
