You may have heard that ol Ken is giving the keynote speech at the TGS 2006,
Ok Key points so far - Networking and user interactivity is the key apparently with a GMS (Global mapping system) in place that nwill enable developers to use a library, an ever changing map of the real world uploaded by users. - Sony have ripped off the Wii Virtual Console PS1 and PS2 games as well as MD and PC Engine Emus released and available online.... - Ok a little weird but users will be able to donate the processing power of the PS3 onlin to help medical research (think like the SETI @ Home thingy but for a PS3) - Users will be able to give their ideas to game developers. Okaaaay.... and er... that's it While I didn't exactly expect him to bend down on both knees and beg for forgiveness from European gamers... I expected more than that/ Poor show Ken! P.S ooh! Question and answer session, this SHOULD be interesting! Pah! It's by a Sony approved journalist. Dear me. - He thinks the PS3 in America isn't that expensive but in Europe it is due to exchange rates. He also drinks beer instead of wine as it's cheaper. I'll keep ya posted (edited by Uncle Elmo on 09-21-06 10:04 PM) (edited by Uncle Elmo on 09-21-06 10:07 PM) (edited by Uncle Elmo on 09-21-06 10:13 PM) (edited by Uncle Elmo on 09-21-06 10:13 PM) (edited by Uncle Elmo on 09-21-06 10:17 PM) (edited by Uncle Elmo on 09-21-06 10:31 PM) |

Sony... when will you learn not to rip off ideas from your father, Nintendo. The only thing that sounds intresting is that you can criticize games and developers will actually read them. Please evaluate on the medical thing. Is it you giving up high speed ps3 internet so medical machines can work better? | |||

Firstly, Ninty ripped off Microsoft with the Virtual Console idea.
The medical program? I've done some research and it;s to do with http://folding.stanford.edu/ , the science completely baffles me, but it IS 3.35am here so forgive me. |

I don't think Nintendo necessarily ripped off Microsoft since they at least had a back library of games to call upon; Microsoft basically sells original games and classic arcade games, and Sony already had made plans to do the PS1 thing for the PSP. However, deciding to do the Genesis/TG-16 thing just like Nintendo... no. That looks like a total copycat move.
Kutaragi also hinted at paying for a demo of a game - maybe for $1 or so but that's still ludicrous. I know people make fun of Sony for their microtransactions but if they went through with that... heaven help us. |

Ph Both PS3s will have a HDMI socket now apparently
Oh if you think THAT Microtransaction is bad... getta load of THIS... From Gamesradar.com "Sony will use Gran Turismo HD, the next-gen update to the realism-heavy racing series on PlayStation 3, to showcase its 'micro-transaction' system for the console. The game will appear in two versions - GT HD: Premium, with 30 cars and two tracks included, and GT HD: Classic, a cheaper, stripped-down offering that features no cars whatsoever. To play the Classic version you'll have to download cars and tracks using Sony's online service. This is according to an article in Japanese gaming mag Famitsu, which claims that cars will be priced between 50 and 100 yen (roughly 20 to 45 pence) and new tracks will cost from 200 to 500 yen (roughly 90p to £2.25). With around 750 cars and 50 tracks available for download, this adds up to a ridiculous amount. All 750 cars could cost you in the region of £200, while collecting all 50 tracks would require you splash out upwards of around £60. That's effectively nearly £300 for the full Gran Turismo HD package! This sounds absolutely bonkers to us - especially as Gran Turismo HD is planned only as a stop-gap until a true next-gen sequel appears. Sony was unavailable for comment at the time of writing, but we'll be tracking down an official word on the crazy sounding Gran Turismo plans as soon as we can and hopefully the PlayStation maker will tell us that it's all been a big mistake..." |

I heard the GT rumors/reports and if this is true... that absolutely disgusts me. Given how a "premium" version would only include 30 cars and TWO tracks (which is unacceptable for a racing game these days), it's probably a sure-fire way to turn people off the GT series.
I understand Sony's going to be losing money right out of the gate (as almost EVERYONE does when releasing a new system) but... they don't have to try make it back right away. And as far as the demo thing goes... Microsoft, your #1 competitor in the United States, makes game demos available for free. You can't get cheaper than that. |

Not surprising. Next they'll be adding a touch screen to the PSP. This image I made up a while ago seems appropriate here:
Seems like a bizarre attempt to convince people they're not evil.
We can already do that using this thing called email. |

That thing called email is also called that thing that gets filtered into the spam folder and deleted shortly after. I'm not sure how they plan to go about the users giving developers feedback thing. It's probably something like a survey that could be taken through the PS3. Can't be much different from the Gamer Advisory Panel.
Must head to class. -.- |

I heard that speech was so boring that a lot of the attendees whipped out their DSes and began chatting via pictochat.
I doubt the game downloading feature for ps3 offers any real significant edge. I'm kind of excited to see what Indy developers will have to offer through the virtual console. |
