There are currently a few rings on Digg that are made up of a group of people that digg each others' stories, basically patting each others' backs so that their stories always get on the front page. On Digg, how old your account is/how popular your stories are/etc make your influence on stories go higher. This means that users who create large amounts of stories that get to the front page will influence stories more, pushing them to the front page more easily. I suggest we make an Acmlm friend-ring on Digg. Basically, this means that we create/use existing accounts and add each other as friends on digg. Whenever someone else from our little circle submits a story, we all submit the story, bringing it up to the top. We could become on of the few groups that literally control Digg. Why do we do this? Two reasons. The first, is simply, for fun. The second; to motivate the programmers behind Digg to work harder to stop these groups. Currently there isn't enough push for them to do that, but Digg is supposed to be of the people, completely democratic; groups like this destroy the ideals behind Digg! If more groups pop up, there will be less central control. To register: Go here and create an account. Then read HowStuffWorks' entry on Digg. We will then add everyone to our friends' lists and RULE SUPREME. My account name is windwaker (a very old account from back when Digg wasn't too big with a few stories on the front page, I have a bit of influence already). Post here with your account name and I'll create a list which we'll all add to our friends list. (edited by windwaker on 09-07-06 11:09 PM) (edited by windwaker on 09-07-06 11:21 PM) |

Schweiz oder etwas [12:55] (Dr_Death16); I swear, the word drama needs to be stricken from the dictionary, for I've heard it so many times, it will permanently be imprinted on my brain Since: 11-17-05 From: Kingston, Rhode Island Last post: 6465 days Last view: 6465 days |

This smells like advertising, but feels like genius deviousness.
I'll allow it. |

You're so kind.
Actually this isn't advertising (what would I be advertising ). I just read a few articles and thought "well, let's protest in a fun way", and then that post was born. I have zero friends on Digg as of yet, so maybe this is just a subconscious plea for acceptance. |

Submit what kinds of stories?
I'm not a big writer... as long as I wouldn't have to actually submit work, I'd sign up. |

And this is why /. is still superior to Digg in many ways (even though as of late /. editors have been getting out of hand)

I've found recently that the /. Games editors don't know news from a hole in their ass. They frequently post "news" that's several days old, for instance.

Originally posted by Danielle I should clarify. You don't actually write the stories, you simply link to them. It's a really interesting concept. Xkeeper: by your (and my) logic, Digg isn't as bad as Slashdot yet, because the users still have some power over what goes on the front page. Although the designs of both sites still blow. |

I have to agree to that.
We need a real version. Something like a good combonation of these sites that netiher censored stories nor relied specifically on users to make it to the front page (or something)... |

Yeah but the problem is that as soon as one of those sites ends up getting really popular and starts making money and all that, they always end up having to make concessions.

Oh, most definitely. Unless either site gets a huge redesign (digg's design is getting oooold, even though some of the features are cool, they'd have to redo a lot of the architecture to get it to work great). I think the "digging" idea was cool for a while, but now it's kind of getting old. Perhaps if there was an easier way of viewing all of the stuff put on the site, rather than by ranking. At least enough of this "AJAX LOLOLOL LOOK NO RELOAD" shit that slows the server down alot by sending useless data in the javas Regardless, this is one of the few things I could think of to actually motivate the Digg staff to work on this. Kevin Rose is actually in one of the bigger rings, and he started Digg modeled after /. |

Where did you read about this? I saw it linked in an anti-DRM article a few days ago.

I don't care if slashdot is a bit late with some of their news. I usually go there for the comments and there's something about digg that I don't like. Almost want me to make my own news site though.
