I'm surprised of the lack of mention on the current Hargreaves rumours. It could be a tad bit of a blow to Bayer Munich.

I haven't heard much of it. But, uh... who's up for some Honduran footy?
...Anyone? ...aw peas. (goes back to GolTV) |

I imagine Honduran football being at the standard of the Scottish First Division. So not very good.
The EPL kicks off tomorrow! Games on TV here are Sheffield United/Liverpool, Arsenal/Aston Villa and Bolton/Tottenham. Arsenal/Villa might be fun but I think the Arse is too strong at the moment. Bolton/Tottenham could be good too. |

Originally posted by Sexy Emperor Colin Well, of course we can't afford any slip-ups. Unless we were in a group consisting only of Canada, Scotland, and Lithuania (because, let's face it, having relations to Canada, Scotland and Lithuania means you lose, no matter what ), we'd have to be on our toes. I'm not saying we're through to the European Championships, I'm just saying we've been given a good group. I mean, look at the facts, we're in the only group where none of the teams competed in the World Cup. None of the teams are traditional powerhouses (Greece won the Euros but they'll not come close to anything like that in years to come, and Turkey got the bronze medal in 2002 without playing a single European country). So we got a lot of work ahead of us, but the group we're in means we have a realistic shot at going to the alps in 2 years. |

Canada finally got to announce a squad today! Granted, it's for a friendly in two weeks time against Jamaica, but still... I never realized how slanted our roster is.
- 6 players from Norway. (Stamatopoulos, Pozniak, Reda, Bernier, Grande, Occean) - 3 players currently playing for the Montreal Impact. (Sutton, Braz, Gervais) - 1 player older than 30. (Radzinski) Geez. I think we'll beat Jamaica easily but still. |

Wait a sec... Wait a sec... You picked Stamatopoulos and not Hirschfeld? What is up with that? I mean, I probably should be supportive of our goalkeeper (and spiteful towards the one who left), but Hirschfeld is the better of the two. I felt a certain sense of security last season because I knew whatever happened, Hirschfeld would stop most things, while this season I've felt a sense of distrust, knowing that Stamatopoulos might mess up at any time...
Anyway, it doesn't really matter, since Bernier = instant win! Oh, and Olivier Occean had an *ugly* elbow during Lillestrøm's 3-2 cup quarterfinal loss against Start. Ironically, Lillestrøm should have had two red cards (one for Occean and one for their reserve goalkeeper who tackled a guy who was through on goal outside of the box), but only got one faulty red card (for their main goal keeper who stopped a guy who was through on goal outside of the box, but was shown the card since the guy he stopped dived and the ref fell foro it). |

That argument's already been brought up by one of our delusional (read: pessimists who think that everything Canada does is wrong yet cheer the team anyways) fans. An idiot's saying that Lars is effectively not wanted but gives absolutely NO proof and is shooting down logical arguments. Basically it's one of two things:
- Lars turned down the call-up; - Lars will be called up for the next game in October against Jamaica. We're not dumb enough to leave a good goalie out of the mix. Besides, we don't have a manager right now, and Stephen Hart (U-17 coach) is in charge until we find a suitable replacement. The odds are that it's going to be Dale Mitchell (U-20 coach) but I'd prefer someone with more experience. I know that Kenny's on the bench at Tromso now but I dunno if that's because he's not doing a good job or if the other goalie had a good game and took his spot. |

Since you just HAD to go there, let's see about The Only Group That Matters. That being Group C, as we all know.
Liverpool, PSV Eindhoven, Bordeaux, and... Galatasaray? I'll send a case of Bactine to Turkey. But for reals, here's the groups. Group A: Barcelona, Chelsea, Werder Bremen, Levski Sofia Group B: Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Sporting Lisbon, Spartak Moscow Group C: Liverpool, PSV Eindhoven, Bordeaux, Galatasaray Group D: Valencia, AS Roma, Olympiakos, Shakhtar Group E: Real Madrid, Lyon, Steaua, Dynamo Kiev Group F: Man United, Celtic, Benfica, FC Copenhagen Group G: Arsenal, FC Porto CSKA Moscow, Hamburg Group H: AC Milan, Lille, AEK Athens, Anderlecht Cork City, Linfield, and The New Saints FC lose big. Inter Milan and Roma may, similarly, be fucked if Juventus and AC Milan win their appeals. Anyone else think Group A might be the Group of Hidden Blistering Death? Well, you're wrong. That'd be Group C. Everyone sees the pain and suffering coming out of Group A. |

Group E is going to be the most fun to watch!
Don't fuck with Dynamo Kyiv! (I finally got a number 7 jersey for that club!) |

No, Inter and Roma won't be screwed. Milan's in the CL (they had to qualify but still) and Juve's not getting in no matter what. You can't change participants at this point.
I like Celtic's draw. We can beat Copenhagen and could do well against Benfica. Man U/Celtic will likely be on TV here and should be great to watch. We shouldn't finish at the bottom and second is a realistic possibility. As for the other groups... A: Poor Levski. Barcelona and Chelsea are going to have some interesting games... B: Seems like a clear-cut group but I wouldn't quite count Sporting out. C: Liverpool and one of the others. Close group but not quite a group of death. D: It SHOULD be Valencia/Roma but the other two teams are no slouches. Shakhtar aren't pushovers. E: I hope Lyon gives Madrid a whomping again. I think this is the group of death, actually... Kiev are good and Steaua did fantastically well in the UEFA Cup last season. G: I like Hamburg's chances to get into the next round along with Arsenal. Porto could figure in. H: ...way to "punish" Milan, guys. Everyone else can fight it out for the other spot. |

Well, Stamatopoulos has just never managed to hold on to the number one spot at the club, I'm afraid, Colin. He started this season because Borch was injured. He played untill Borch was fit, and then Borch was given the starting goalie position. Borch then got injured again, meaning Stamatopoulos was again starting goalie. Then the news came that Borch was out for the rest of the season, meaning Tromsø only had one goalie, so they picked up Ramovic, and Ramovic was immediately made starting goalie. It's sad, really, since I like the Canadian players in our team, but Stamatopoulos just hasn't been convincing.
Liverpool, PSV, Bordeaux, and Galatasaray (*cough*who we knocked out of the UEFA Cup last year *cough*) is interesting, of course... My pick for coolest matchup is A, though, based simply on the Barcelona vs. Chelsea games. Here's to hoping they get a Scandinavian ref! |

Oh... so he was playing for the sake of having nobody better on the team? :\
Eep. That's not good at all. |

So, I'll just call up the airline companies and check out who can give me the best price on a trip to Vienna in 2008. Man, our performance yesterday was sick! Fair enough, it was only Hungary, but we outclassed them in a way I didn't think possible. Gamst's goal was one for the history books, as well.
Not even Hungary's devious plan of injuring our players through the use of commercial boards helped. Funny little situation that they'll hopefully get on YouTube. Rambekk is going to take a throw in, so he starts walking slowly backwards in order to get some running distance to the line. Then, after having walked a couple of steps back, he crashes over the commercial sign boards slowly but surely, they were clearly a lot closer than he thought. He looks a bit confused before he gets up, makes the throw in, gets the ball back, plays it into the box, and watches Gamst score his fantastic goal. So, Col, I'm guessing you're pleased with your mother's side of the family and all today? |

Link to it if you find it. I'd think the bigger story yesterday was Solskjaer apparently looking like he never was out of football for 2 years.
And I'm always happy whenever Italy stumbles but when it's against Lithuania, I'm ecstatic. Sadly, Lithuania must lose to Scotland on Wednesday (after we made the Faroes our bitch) but I'll be nice. They can lose to us 1-0. |

Well, I found the video here. Not the best quality, and they've dropped the part about Rambekk falling over the signs just before that happened, but you get the general gist of the goal.

What a NICE goal. Certainly beats Rob Friend's goal from the Canada game today, although it wasn't his fault... the problem is that the Jamaican goalie as well as two defenders came out to meet him, and Friend managed to get his head on the cross from de Guzman and it bounced into the empty net.
One of Jamaica's players stated after the game that he hopes Jamaica is at full strength for the return match in October; as he said, "Hopefully, we can get our full squad out and give (Canada) a beating". We'll just see about that. |

Originally posted by Colin You dont have a clue what you are talking about. Lars has started none of the last 9 games for Canada. He did not turn down being called up for this game, he was not asked. He has not been asked for any of the last 3 games for Canada, it has been Greg and Kenny for each and every one. Those of you who say he is not excluded and will be asked to the next one, keep being wrong everytime, since you dont have a clue. That is proof, and that is the real logical argument. You will also be wrong about him being asked to the next game and I look forward to seeing you be wrong as usual like most of your clueless soccer fans are. Lars is done with Canadian Soccer since he is not wanted like has been for over a year. |

In case you're wondering who this guy is, he's a troll on these forums and this is a pretty shining example of his work. Given how the screen names are fairly identical, I think I can make a pretty good match based on the anti-Lars talk to start off.
I don't know how you found this place or why, but while the mods there might not have the balls to boot you out, I certainly do. Get lost. *bans* That felt good. |

To put it simple, everyone over here (in Norway) knows that Lars > Kenny. Hirschfeld is probably the best GK in the league (him or Arason, I'd say), Stamatopoulos has yet to show much positive. If the Canadian national team coaches can't see this, shame on them.
Norway's got Moldova tonight. Most fans around here are expeting 0-0, or 0-1 if Moldova can get a lucky counter-attack. Yeah, the Semb years have left Norwegian fans overly pessimistic. So, Canada doesn't have to qualify for the Gold Cup, right? Canada, USA, and Mexico are all guaranteed in? |
