Snakes on a Plane is arguably the greatest movie of the millenium. It is most certainly the only movie I have ever seen (with a release date after my birthdate) which surpassed all the hype. I go into the theatre thinking it will be really good and it turns out to be better. I has it all: the thills, the chills, the unadulterated spills and, more importantly, Samuel L. Jackson killing literally ho-jillions of snakes...with profanity.
The group I went with started two applause sessions (eg after Jackson delivered the line "I am sick of these...snakes on this...plane."). Spoiler: Hooray for snake bites on bouncing titties and killing upside-down men with baseball bats. |

It don't know, the snake biting the nipple was nothing compared to the fact that the attack was on people who were conforming to three stereotypes at the same time.

I swear, you guys, it's like you *expected* the movie to be bad.
With a name like "Snakes on a Plane", it wasn't a bad expectation to have coming in. Anything above "disappointing" would have been just fine. And it seems the people who went liked it even though it didn't win the box office this weekend. |

The movie was entertaining. It knew what it wanted to be and didn't exceed those boundaries. It wanted to be an over the top comedy mixed in with elements of horror and sheer gore and I think it achieved that pretty well.
Another note about my audience: Spoiler: Before the guy got bit on his "little friend", the crowd groaned in disgust prior to it along with one person saying "oh no! not the penis!". Hilarious. (edited by Jin Dogan on 08-21-06 12:22 AM) |

I love how the filmmakers put a bunch of zany, interesting, and "stereotypical passenger" characters on the plane and took plenty of opportunity to have them interact and play some role other than snake food. (And most of the snake fodder passengers at least did something funny before they got bumped off.)

I thought it was great how it didn't even try to make sense. I mean sure if this bad guy had enough access to put a huge crate of deadly snakes on a plane, he could just as easily put a bomb in there instead. But I guess there's nothing really funny about "Bomb On a Plane".
Come to think of it, though, as cheesy as this movie is it doesn't even come close to "Eraser". And that was all unintentional cheesiness. |

The general attitude towards this movie by my friends seems to be "shut up, we're not interested. It's going to suck, why are you going? Just because it's hyped doesn't mean it's going to be good". And when I tell them that it doesn't matter whether it's good or not, it's one of those movies you have to see.
Anyway, it's not out in Norway before September 29. I'll just have to wait. This is one of those movies I want to see in a movie theater the first time I see it. Edit: Been to Arizona lately, windwaker? (edited by Salmon on 08-22-06 09:14 PM) |

Cy wasn't the only one there. It was a pre-PAX dinner. The movie was also full of people from PAX.
Also, DS gaming before the food was served taught me a valuable lesson - I totally kick ass at Mario Kart. |

Enough talk about your group speed date. What did you think about how much more awesome the movie is the second or fortieth time? |

Has anyone seen it in an almost empty theater? I heard you need a full thater to get the best experience.

I REALLY wish I'd seen this when it came out (I've still not seen it.)
If I go now there will be no one in the theater. Should I wait for the DVD and have a Snakes party of go see it alone? |

This was probably the worst screenplay I've ever seen... yet i enjoyed it in some twisted way. The totally inappropriate stabs at humor as everyone is dying from snake venom was almost comical, and the relationships between the characters are forced but it almost seems like they are forced just to poke fun at the action genre as a whole.

It was funny how they came up with a weapon early on and it took them 20 minutes just to use it once... What happened to the taser, anyway? Speaking of weapons... Spoiler: ...how did a knife and harpoon gun make it pass security? |
