I was reading ESPN's interesting debate on whether college or the NFL is better, which made me realize that there was an NFL thread, but no college thread.
So is anyone besides me excited about the new season? Right off the bat there are some great games coming up: Week 1: Florida State at Miami Week 2: Ohio State at Texas Week 3: Michigan at Notre Dame ________LSU at Auburn ________Nebraska at USC Oh man, I can't wait. Here's to the Bucks keeping that No. 1 preseason ranking all throughout the season. (edited by Sexy NSNick on 08-17-06 06:50 AM) |

I am living right next to UMD's stadium this year. I couldn't possibly get much shorter of a walk to the place.
So I can leisurely stroll to watch them lose I'm a college football amateur but I'll be keeping an eye on the games probably. |

I don't know how much time I'll have on saturdays to watch the games... and since Young/Bush/Leinart etc. left school I'm kind of turned more towards the NFL this year, but I still plan on keeping up with the CFB season. I'll have to wait until a little while into the season before I get too intrigued by any certain schools or players.

I know that Tennessee has to do good this year, or Philip Fullmer will probably be on the hot seat. Other than that, I don't care. I'm more toward driving to school and watching our team lose. Waste of gas and money, but its just for hangin with friends. (trust me, no one has school spirit at my school. Our coach is a dwarf, and runs the same dang play every game, and we lose, and he wonders why)

Nebraska at USC... lol... I go to the University of Nebraska... and let me just say, USC is gonna walk all over them, being at home and all, and even if they were here, I think USC would still walk all over them, and when I mean walk, I mean pass. Nebraska's secondary is the worst I've ever seen... and I'm a Kansas Jayhawk fan. Let's just say, I think the Jayhawks will beat Nebraska again this year to start a streak of their own.

I'm sure this season will be just as exciting as the rest have. It's good having a home team you can actually cheer for without having other people give you funny looks.

Same here, if it weren't for Ohio State, I'd say my Drew Tate and my U. of Iowa would be the favorites in the Big Ten.

They're definitely up there, but damn do we have a good conference this year. Well, we always have a good conference, but this year looks even better than normal.
Which is why I feel that Texas and USC are overrated. Their conferences are cake. |

BRADY QUINN FOR HEISMEN!
That's about all I gotta say. I'm pissed that I'm missing the entire ND football season over here in London, but we've got a 100 people that say we can get any bar to show the games with the fact that there will be well over 1000 drinks ordered during the game. Can't wait for the season to start, nobody outside of students and people who donate buildings are getting tickets to the games, it's gonna be an awesome season. And I'm just gonna put this out right now, ND v Ohio State Fiesta Bowl Rematch, should be quite a showdown, and I'm gonna sell everything that must be sold to get tickets to that game cause I've already got a place to stay down there. And I leave you with a great quote about the massive number 99, the scariest person I've ever met, hailing from Detroit, abiding in the illustrious Alumni Hall, Ronald Talley "The 6-foot-4, 262-pound Talley brings a menacing presence to the Irish line, and not just with an imposing frame. Unlike quieter teammates Abiamiri and Landri, Talley will, on occasion, open his mouth before the ball is snapped. What does he say? "Intimidating things," he deadpanned, drawing nervous laughs from several reporters." (edited by Young Guru on 08-23-06 08:46 PM) (edited by Young Guru on 08-23-06 08:47 PM) |

I've been moving and fixing my computer, but I finally have a chance to post here. So much has happened... Man I love football season.
Northern Illinois @ 1Ohio State: OSU's offense looked great early, showing Smith hooking up with Ginn and Gonzo for 3 quick scores. After that, Tressel decided to ease up instead of running up the score, because he's classy like that. The only thing I didn't see that I was expecting to was Troy Smith's running ability. I don't know if he's going for a pocket passer role this year, but I think it's more likely we didn't want Texas to see him in action. Our defense was solid, despite giving up over 250 yards to Wolff. He is the nation's leading returning rusher. But the D didn't let him in the end zone until later in the game. The secondary looked good, though they weren't challenged much, and the line looked especially good. The only worrying aspect was that the linebackers didn't seem to be fast enough in getting to the outside. North Texas @ 3Texas: Texas destroyed N Texas in a blowout, though N Texas was hardly a worthy opponent. McCoy looked good and dispelled much of the worry surrounding life without Vince. 2Notre Dame @ Georgia Tech: Wow. Notre Dame looked nothing like the #2 team they were supposed to be, almost getting shut out of the first half, and not completing a single TD pass. Quinn is really going to have to step it up if he wants a decent season and that Heisman everyone's been saying he has a shot at. Kentucky @ 13Louisville: Louisville ran over Kentucky, but lost their Heisman candidate runner for the season to a broken leg. Bad news for the team many were picking to upset a few high-ranked teams. 11Florida State @ 12Miami: A close game, but.... where was the offense? A combined 3 rushing yards between both teams?! Both of these teams better shape up, and soon. 9Cal @ 23Tennessee: I didn't actually see this game, but wow, Cal got rocked. Looks like Tennessee is back... Talk about next week to come. |

Miami FSU, what a shit game. I mean, if these are supposed to be good schools they should be able to put up a little bit of offensive numbers. That was just rediculous, and my man Kyle Wright, not holding it down like he used to back in high school when we played bball together.
The ND game was the most stressful thing I've ever watched, but we showed some toughness and got the victory. Definately not what I wanted from the game, but a w is a w and I think it'll shock the team into being prepared for Penn. Suprisingly, our numbers weren't that bad, but nowhere near the numbers we were putting up last year, we need to fix that, and soon. Cal v Tenn, ouch, that's all I can say, that was just painful to watch. My bears used to be so close to being so good, but now they just go ahead and open up with probably the worst performance from them in the past four years. Hopefully they can do a little better, and give USC a good game to regain some clout. I can't wait for the Ohio v Tex game, that's gonna be great, hopefully I can find a bar that'll play that game over her in London, cause it's hard enough convincing the sports bar over here to play the ND game, but when you bring 100 people who are all buying drinks at 3pounds a piece, money kicks in and they say ok. And back to the opening of this entire topic, there is no question about it, College football is not only better than the NFL, it is the greatest collection of sporting events for any sport, nothing beats the fall semester and all the games that it entails. |

The Most Wonderful Time Of the Year: * Either mid-November through the end of bowl season (for the football) * February through the Final Four (for the basketball) YOU MAKE THE CALL And they're not the Rainbow Warriors anymore. Jsut the Warriors. But using a 4 WR set as your base offense = WIN. |

I don't see how Miami is supposed to put up any kind of offensive numbers with an inexperienced O-line. Experts predicted a defensive game and that's what happened.

I know it was supposed to be a defensive game, but still, 3 yrds total rushing on nearly 50 rushes, that's attrocious. I know some teams can win on defense, but you still need some semblance of offence to pull through. And if you have no ability to rush, then other teams defenses are going to have a field day blitzing to speed up the pass, and just dumping extra coverage in the back field. Maybe it was just first game needing to get all the kinks worked out, but if either of those teams don't improve they're both looking towards a very bad season. |
