I love it, the idea is genius.. Probably should have done something like this quite some time earlier on.. But eh.. And I'd be applying, but seeing as I'm the lurker here, it is much more likely that I'll just sit back and read, which will be even nicer with this change..

Originally posted by Coby I have to disagree with that, I'd say over 50% of the people here either lost intrest in rom hacking altogether, or came because of friends/story forum/the community[general, craziness]. As for the whole approved thing, it's a matter of are you getting more idiots, or more good users. the consensus[sp?] is more idiots, so rather than selectively removing the idiots [which is what we've been doing the past 5 years] we are chosing to selectively chose who gets to post there, and who doesn't. That's the logic I see behind this, anyway, I don't really have an opinion on wether this is 'right' or 'wrong,' as it sounds good on paper, until you have people who think it's a pain, are too lazy to post a thread stating they've read the FAQ, or want to make a stand for the sake of "freedom." |

I really do like these new regulations. I know there are people who disrespect most staff here. I don't see the point. Honestly, most of the stuff posted in these forums are mainly crap, with a very few great hacks coming in. This is probably the best way to keep people who are ruining the forums, out of them.

In a way, I do like this plan, because you guys are getting rid of the ones who basically type up nonsense threads. However, I don't quite agree with the "nOOb" stuff because they are always going to be noobs on every forum. If you guys are ignoring their threads because you think that person should solve their problem on their own, then its cool. I hope I'm not sounding hypocritical because in some things, I am a noob, I'm just keeping it real.

Seems backwards to me. I would've made it so you started out with approval by default, and then lost it when you were a dumbass.
As I see it, the real problem has always been that people can very easilly be too stupid to belong in the ROM hacking forum but not the complete dumbasses required to get themselves banned. Being able to partially ban them (which is exactly what being non-approved is) fixes that neatly. |

Either way, your idea Squash Monster, or theirs, I think either one is better than what we had before. I'm starting to wonder now though, I wonder where the n00bs who don't get accepted will post...

Originally posted by Squash Monster Problem is.. It'll take more work to ban the majority of ignorant fools from ROM Hacking than it would to approve those who can actually contribute something.. And no, I highly doubt all of those people even have the brain power to apply, so you won't need to shift through a lot of applications. (Actually, just glancing at an application should be enough anyway.. keeping tabs on a fully active forum with many members, is harder..) Your idea is a good one too, don't get me wrong, but yea.. It has gone past the point of anyone having patience anymore, and thus these more rigid rules needed to be set.. Regardless, getting in isn't very difficult, and activity isn't likely to go down very much there.. (Really, was it all that active to begin with?) We'll see it cleaner this way, and perhaps start seeing more gems and less.. crap. Originally posted by acillatem98 I'm sorry.. You can't wait half a day? That's no time at all.. Besides, how much is even going to get posted in that time? Not a lot considering its activity.. (Also remember.. you can still VIEW it, just not reply without an accepted Application.) That's just grossly impatient of you, though.. And really, sometimes applications might take serious consideration, in which case then.. time may be needed like that. Really, if someone can't wait that long in order to post, they might not be eligible to begin with.. ROM Hacking generally requires a lot of patience and resolve, and most of us have some kind of life to live outside the forums anyway, so half a day isn't that much.. These regulations are called taking preventative measures. We're tired of seeing people like SMWFreak and Uzi run their stupidity all through the board. We've seen that people who can't write a coherent paragraph detailing something are the ones who usually end up doing those things. I like it; I mean if you have enough brain smarts to argue a pro/con case about this, then you can write a friggin' paragraph or two saying why you should be allowed on and wait patiently.

Just as a note, applications are usually processed sometime around midnight-5AM PST, when BMF and I are both on (mostly because he bugs me to do them )

... I guess you guys should be lucky I'm not in charge, as if I had it my way, we'd have rejected about a third of the people who wanted in now.

Basically, it would be anyone not in Kyouji's "Kool Klub". That would include 98% of us.
Great. Kyouji's Kool Klub = KKK. Now I'm thinking of that guy from Little Fighter with a white hoodie thing running around yelling "DIE NOOBS!" and burning us all at a stake with a sign on it reading "OBJECTION!". |

Why I think this is a good idea. (If anyone cares)
1. When new members come here specifically for rom hacking, they will have no problem writing a small simple application. Saying that people won't bother applying is just speculation. If people are passionate about Pokemon Hacking or SMW hacking, and they see how many people view this board, they will have no problem with it at all. 2. As stated before, there are going to be more intelligent members getting through. Sure a n00b might slip through with a convincing application, but if they screw up a lot, the will be de-approved. I agree with Alastor, I already see some people who shouldn't have gotten through, but at least some of the stupid members were denied. Even if this only cuts down on the stupid level at little, at least it gets cut down. |

Taryn: I didn't mind the idea at all. But I think at the moment we need to do something significant because those forums were... well.. they were UGH.
And we tried it before, but SMW Hacking/Advanced SMW Hacking didn't work out. :\ Oh, and I actually processed a few (but not all, sorry) applications before. If Xk/BMF aren't around and I see some that are more or less slam dunks, I'll process them. |

Originally posted by Sexy Emperor Colin I certainly don't argue that it's valid as a short-term solution. Some dramatic action needed to be taken. My suggestion is in the longer-term. |
