So you're calling BMF a, to use your words, "complete retard"? Just making sure I'm reading this right. | |||

Either way, we'll lose.
Wheeeee. Awesome thread title! (and its not like we won't get more shit like that in the future). Edit: Disregard that. But ... still. (edited by Racer Xeo on 08-15-06 01:06 AM) (edited by Racer Xeo on 08-15-06 01:06 AM) (edited by Racer Xeo on 08-15-06 01:16 AM) |

A few of my thoughts on the matter:
1. Forcing people to ask to be allowed to post on the ROM hacking forums is going to kill activity. It will also annoy people who come here from other messageboards to post their creations, and find they can't, unless they get permission. So they disappear off again, and people on this board eventually hear about a couple of months along the line when it's old news. 2. The problem with "n00bs" is being completely blown out of all proportion. Has anyone ever tried ignoring their threads? It's really not that hard. Or how about actually get the moderators to do their jobs? 3. Your solution is pathetic. People ask for permission to post, and it gets immediately granted. The criteria for granting people permission to post is vague, and probably doesn't exist (Having more than three brain cells? How can you possibly gauge that from one messageboard post?). It's simply a "do we think you're cool enough" thing. I won't be asking for permission to post. 4. Trying to be exclusive when the ROM hacking community is stagnant, and in dire need of fresh new blood is really silly. 5. Revoking everyone's posting rights because of a handful of users stupid behaviour is a complete over-reaction, and probably what Dragonsbrethern meant. If you really needed to have some kind of ability to ban people from the ROM hacking forums, you should have granted everyone access. Then when people start being asses, remove their access. Your solution just shows that your staff are completely incapable of doing their jobs. Look at the dabacle of the SMW hacking forum for instance. You had this big relaunch, "no crap tolerated" policies, yet that didn't seem to last long. |

As of right now, the general ROM Hacking forum is excluded from the approval process. You're welcome.
HOWEVER, if things start going to pot again one month from now, it's going right back in with the other two. |

Ok!
I think this whole approval thing is a good idea. It will raise the quality in the ROM hacking forum and that's only a good thing. Many people start screaming when someone tries to regulate something here. But I rather have some regulation than a complete anarchy, so I fully go with the idea of approval. |

I completely agree with Dan and Dragonsbrethren on this. I've been coming to these boards for some 3-4 years now and this has to be the by far dumbest thing you've people have ever done. This board is based around the ROM Hacking, without the ROM hacking this place would probably be empty. And that's exactly why you shouldn't put this kind of approval thing up. It'll scare people away, even people more intelligent than you.
If you want to keep the retarded people out then get your staff to do their jobs correctly. Oh, and:
That's very mature. |

Originally posted by Coby Except that people more intelligent than 90% of this board have left because of, you guessed it, the insane level of stupid in those forums. New people won´t be afraid, as all it does is require you to prove you can handle the English language and plan to contribute SOMETHING. In short, we can either leave the forum alone, which, judging from all of the messages I get from people whom I hold in high regard (blackhole89, BMF54123, several other people), is not working, or we can take steps to resolve the problem. SWS2B uses a variation on this formula (30 posts, then a review by tech members), but that is a smaller forum with, during the trial period, only 5 forums -- two of which are for hacking, one announcements, and one help, and one general forum. And in case you don´t know, some of the shit they´ve put out will blow things from her eout of the water, mostly because everyone here who used to be capable of it left in favor of somewhere with less retards. So either come up with a better solution or shut up, because I´m sick of dealing with people who can´t make up their minds (omg this forumj suxz but getting rd if the oditos sucks toO!!1one). PS: if they don´t feel like giving a reason for disliking this, I don´t have to give a reason for banning them. Deal with it. |

*notices the little thumb in forum header now*
Basically I am against ideas like this, on the other hand even the staff admits some parts of this board are going ... crazy. I always liked Acmlm's due to some nice people and already its ROMhacking and SNW section (no, I don't want to toady up ) somehow, despite the known problems. This happens in other forums as well, like game creation in RPG Maker, in the appropiate forums ("ur using the default btl system, u suk!" or one-liners like "you screen is 2 empty!"). On the other hand, things have to be tried out. Big brother is watching you, yes, but at least this is not that bad like some terms of RFID chips and similar things. If it fails, the approval feature anyway still can be disabled afterwards (as long as Xk put it in well and the removal doesn't create a mess, hehe ). Time will tell. |

I have a suggestion in regards to this.
The approval idea I think is necessary at least for the moment, but I do not believe it is a good long term solution. What I would prefer to see is something along these lines: A newbie forum -- covering basic FAQs and other information, and providing a forum for new members to the forum to post and ask "basic" or "dumb" questions. Advanced Forum(s) -- which you need to be "approved" to post in -- either as per the approval process now, or as per their behaviour, etc in the newbie forum. Advanced Forums are viewable to all, but only the approved members would be able to post. The reason I suggest this is that it seems to me that there are two general types of users and they seem to be getting in each others way. Beginner users ask different questions and are interested in different things to advanced users. Likewise advanced users are interested in different things to beginners. This seems the best way (that I can think of) to cater to both types of users. They take a similar approach on many technical forums, ie for open source projects, etc. ROM Hacking is just another technical field that could benefit from this I think. |

Not like I hardly post in the ROM Hacking forums, I'm just not sure if this would be the best solution here. (edited by Racer Xeo on 08-15-06 10:54 AM) |
