"- Nintendo announced Jump! Ultimate Stars for Nintendo DS, the sequel to the popular cross-over fighting game Jump! Super Stars from last year. Jump! Ultimate Stars will have over 300 characters from 40 Jump! manga series and Wi-Fi online battle; the game is scheduled for a winter 2006 release in Japan."
This according to here. And several other sources. And presumably they mean Autumn 2006, since Winter makes no sense.. WiFi = <3. (edited by Alastor the Stylish on 08-03-06 01:57 PM) (edited by Alastor the Stylish on 08-03-06 04:28 PM) |

I think that was called Jump Super Stars the last time I checked.. but Super is so overdone in the US that they needed something bigger I guess. It has lots of cool characters, so it could be good, too bad they picked that system though (or I might've played it). I kinda want to try it just for One Piece and Naruto stuff being in there .

You clearly didn't read Alastors post. Jump Super Stars was the first one. This is the sequel. It probably won't be in the US either, stupid America....
I am looking forward to this one, especially with the wi-fi. Then I can finally play against someone. |

Yes, but... 300 characters on a DS kart? Sounds like they're putting in the same basic crap that Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi did: Generic moveset alongside each character. Bleh.

No, no... 20-30 characters with unique movesets and then a bunch with generic movesets or copied ones. :\
300 characters is a lot but there's no way you could make each one of them unique; at least, on a DS cart. |

Uh, guys. There were 157 different characters in the original Jump Super Stars. Only 34 were battle characters; the rest only went up to the support levels, or didn't even get that far and went only to the basic help effects. This is a a little less than double that at the least, so I'm guessing there'll be 60 battle characters with unique movesets. On top of that, most of the battle characters had different levels you could choose from; devoting more of your deck to them means they have more health and they have different, generally stronger special attacks. So Colin is kinda right about the clone things, but not really since they aren't counting those. Many of those that didn't make it as battle characters could still be used as support characters, which you select to summon and then they perform a quick technique and disappear, at the cost of a special bar... And if they couldn't, they were available as help characters, which give a passive effect or can be selected to give an effect, like clearing status ailments, restoring health, giving a temporary attack boost, or what have you.
And really, there was just a wide, wide range of characters, all playing mostly differently; it's kinda smash bros-ey in the way the moves work. A lot of the combos involve the same buttons (basic weak attack, forward weak attack, basic strong attack, forward strong attack, dashing strong attack is particularly common), but aside from that the characters are all very different. You might see similarity in the play styles of Dio Brando and Jotaro Kujo, but they're not the same character... And a brawler like Goku just plays completely differently from a tactical distance fighter like Yugi. With source material this wide, I really doubt they'll have trouble coming up with more unique stuff. The original had characters from 27 different series, so if they're more than doubling the original cast while only adding 15 or so series, hopefully we'll be able to play as some of the villains this time around (other than Dr. Mashirito). Here's hoping for Mr. 2.

Hey, we had support koma of Hao, and we could play as Dio Brando before
Also, playing as Mr. 2 would be... ... Yeah... |

I know you can play the game on a non Japanese system(as with all ds games) but is there any reason wi fi shouldn't work? If not, then I am totally getting a ds lite and this imported.

There's no reason wifi wouldn't work. Heck, plenty of Japanese people imported MKDS from America and WiFied with it. And plenty of American people are on Bleach DS' WiFi. (edited by Alastor the Stylish on 08-05-06 09:16 PM) |

I think Luigi's thinking of Dream Mix TV: World Fighters. Not the same game.

Wow, I've never heard of that game before.
But being able to fight Simon Belmont with the guy from Beyblade sounds awesome. |

Or Optimus Prime vs. Master Higgins.
The game sounds pretty wacky but I think it did well in Japan, so... games with a mish-mash of fighters sell I guess. |
