hmm well this hack is almost unplayable. is there even a way to beat the first level?
have you playtested this yourself before releasing it? some major issues off the top of my head... - in 2 levels i played there are parts where you can't see your character at all... or the enemies (you need to turn vertical foreground scrolling on to fix this) - in your castle there are so many ball'n'chain sprites on the screen at once that parts of them (and other sprites) disappear. change the sprite header or get rid of some of those sprites! - there were at least 2 sections where you pretty much automatically get hurt if you haven't played the level before (one being at the start of the first level where you sink into nippers) - in your underground sections with floating skulls, there are some pretty severe graphic and gameplay glitches with your uphill and downhill lava, which makes it extremely hard to stay alive (you have to balance on the edge of a skull to not get hit by the awkwardly shaped lava) |

I honestly don't see a difference.
The lava slope and coin count are still glitched. What is up with Sunshine Isle 1? I got the switch at the far right, hit all the blocks, and then used the switch to turn them into coins. I left a coin near the pipe so I can enter it when the coins become blocks once again. And what do I get when I enter the pipe? I get to do the level over again, and it doesn't look any different. This must be either bad level design or I've missed something. A hint block would be really nice in this kind of situation. Also, it's not exactly fair to almost automatically get hit when you are trying to go for the key in Sunshine Isle 3. If I wasn't Super, I'd had died right there. Forcing the player to get hit is looked down upon. Oh, and speaking about getting the key in Sunshine Isle 3, maybe can you make it a bit LESS apparent? The line of coins leading down a pit is just screaming "JUMP IN FOR AN EASY KEY!!!". Also, you can't continue on the path to once after using the Retro Star path. Also, when I got the key in Sunshine Isle 3, the path leading to, I assume Sunshine Isle 4, was exposed but the dot did not show up. And speaking about the paths, they are blue. I didn't play much more of it, since it is rather difficult, and it's still full of bugs, glitches and whatnot. If you keep working at it, and toning down the difficulty, it may be better. |

From what I see from the screens, bland. Very bland and boring.
Could have been better. But from what I did play, it got worse. It was like riding a kite to the ground. Also, there was a train tied to it. |

It was bad, until I got to the castle. Then it was horrible. I stopped playing it, and I'll wait till you release a more bug-free game to play again.
You have a few problems here. 1. The map16 tiles for lava corners are messed up. 2. Your Yoshi's Island backgroud is not animated, and the water doesn't look frozen, so it's just plain wierd. Also, you used a pink background color. What the heck's up with that? 3. Two levels (A sub-level in level 3, and the castle) had no vertical scrolling enabled. It is very hard to see what you're doing above the screen. 4. Level 1 had too many gadfahgsdgshdg fish and I couldn't for the life of me find the exit. 5. I found the secret exit in level 3 (which, BTW, was astonishingly easy to find), and when I went on the Star Road, it led to Star world, and I couldn't move from the Star Road to the level. 6. The palette of the SMB1 brick block sprite is messed up on levels that use it, looks like some kind of funky obsidean... Spoiler: 7. The levels are bland and boring.
...with a hint of LegoMan 8. The overworld has nice graphics, but that doesn't account for the lack of variety. (I haven't even seen the main overworld yet... *shiver*) 9. Did you even test your levels yet? If not, do so, or get a handful of beta testers. (edited by Goldensunboy on 08-02-06 01:26 AM) |

Originally posted by SMT So THAT is how you're supposed to do it. Seriously, I was stuck in the castle with no way out, and I couldn't find a second P switch to reveal the door since you didn't enable vertical scrolling. Okay, since I knew the "lava" is swimmable at the beginning, I took the P switch to me to the end where there's some blocks surrounding a what looks like a hidden door. But when I use it... what happens? NOTHING. Not even a door. And what's with the hidden gate at the net? I found it by pure dumb luck as I was trying to throw the P switch up there. Either give it a purpose other than twack the two koopas behind it, or remove it. This hack needs a lot of work. And I mean a LOT. |

Originally posted by Goldensunboy 1. Wha? Screen please. 2. I know. It wouldn't animate after I put it in a different level. 3. I thought I enabled vertical scrolling in the sub level, but the castle on the other hand... 4. I'll take some fish out 5. That's intentional, because that's going to be a later world. 6. I know 7. I'll improve them. 8. I haven't even started the main OV 9. Some, Yes. Others, no. |
