I have some ideas. Since everyone loves Mario Adventure, how about fix it up and re-release it? Compared to MA2, Mario Adventure is no longer up to the same standards. You could redo all of the graphics, port some of the levels from an older backup of MA2 to MA, and add some new ASM hacks to MA. And, perhaps you could re-code MA to allow it to run on the real thing. Or, you could just port levels from MA and MA2 onto a fresh new ROM, and do all of your ASM coding from scratch. Instant MA2.

Mario Adventure had loads and loads of bugs... I remember one of the last castles of the game, after that world with a horizontal "grid" of levels... As you select that castle level, just keep left pressed, and Mario will appear on a place he isn't supposed to, which saves you a lot of time with the castle maze...
PS: Stupid thought... I hope that when DD tried to get his data back using some recovery program, he didn't install the program on his C drive... (edited by Stifu on 08-02-06 03:26 AM) |

I lost well over three years of my own work and creations, including a few projects I was going to be paid to finish. I know what it feels like. hHowever, that doesn't stop me from thinking something is not right here; why would someone break into a room to reinstall windows? |

I've lost a whole shit-ton of projects to a hard disk crash before.
I decided to just do it better the second time around. |

I think this annoucement means one thing...
The rom hacking community has died a little on the inside. Despite not liking Mario 3 much, you really had something impressive going, and I wanted to see the final product just to see what you could do with it. But man...3 weeks. That really sucks. I mean, I've been working on a project at work for over 6 months, and if I had to go back and do 3 weeks of work again, I'd be pretty down too. Still, I hope you find the resolve to finish it. |

Even though DD's announcement was upsetting, It's good that he's not leaving. As far as I know, he's working on some other programming, possibly a SMB3 editor.

Originally posted by Stifu ABSOLUTELY TRUE! I've tried making a couple RPGs and tried editing SMW a few times, and each time, they kept getting better. Hate to sound cocky, but I believe my SMW level design is alot better than many...which doesn't seem very hard to top. DD: You wanna know my one fear that was in the back of my head all the time whilst waiting for this hack? Poor level design. We've seen next to nothing (besides new skills and such) with this hack, so how are we to know if the levels were going to be good or not? When you start up again, your levels WILL be awesomely better. Plus, now you can go back and think about what new power-ups really weren't needed in the first place. There's nothing worse than a power-up in a long game that's only really used in one stage. *Cough* New Super Mario Bros. with the Mega Mushroom *cough* |

it only recovers the file if it's not over written, unfortunately the clusters that my hack resided on were over written during the reinstall. It would have probably been safe if pre-built computers didn't come with 5 Gigs of crapware with it.
HyperHacker Star Mario Finally being paid to code in VB! If only I still enjoyed that. <_< Wii #7182 6487 4198 1828 Since: 11-18-05 From: Canada, w00t! My computer's specs, if anyone gives a damn. STOP TRUNCATING THIS >8^( Last post: 6432 days Last view: 6432 days |

Then you'll need to take it to one of those places that recovers overwritten data by reading magnetic fields or some crap. If we all pitch in 5 bucks you might be able to afford it.

Well maybe it won't be too much of a hasle to remak those parts of the game when you finish your tools.

I may be misremembering on this, but didn't you regularly post betas of Mario Adventure on IRC? Even if not, it seems like handing around regular releases to trusted people seems like a decent safe measure against schizo locksmiths with a Windows install CD.
Ah well, time makes fools of us all, I suppose. Just ask that Ninji Saga 2 beta I accidentally and permanantly deleted a while back. |

I loved your hack, but I'm a believer in after doing something great and loosing it, you still have the experience from the first time around, making it better the second time.
So, this could POSSIBLY have benifited your hack, but only time will tell... |

I meant to post in this thread earlier, DD, I can sympathize, when I lost my CV Retold II backup all desire to work on the hack was gone, now it's just sitting here in a half-finished half-playable state.
