I remember running this program before with little trouble, since then my computer has been updated (or messed with). I just downloaded YY-CHR from zophar.net (so it should be what everyone else has) v. 0.97 beta 31. The problem is, when I download it, the virus protection on my computer recognizes it as a trojan horse or something (I think I have AVG Free), when I try to open the application it says "Access to the specified device, path, or file is denied". I'm not sure if I have to uninstall the virus protection (I already tried closing the program), or if I'm just doing something wrong. Any info would help!

Use the exclusion list feature to exclude yy_chr.

Yes, that should fix it! Only problem is that, from what I can gather from their useless help menu, is that I have to upgrade to the paid version to use that option or I'm SOL, but let me know if I'm wrong! So I'll just uninstall, and hopefully that should do it. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, it jsut uses code that seems to be a virus signature, but isn't.
you can safely ignore YY-CHR in your antivirus software. |

Oh, look, there's a new version of YY-CHR available. Perhaps it fixes the problem?

AVG completely blocks YY-CHR, even if you click ignore you still can't open it. I know so because I also had this problem. Now I have another anti-virus program and the problem is fixed.

Okay, I have a new question now! I've opened a ROM (Illusion of Gaia) in YY-CHR, and many other tile/sprite editing programs and here's the thing, I only see at most 1/8 of the graphics that should be there (same with other games). There are some recognizeable tiles & items, and 1 or 2 sprite sets, and the rest looks like fuzz. Is there something I'm not doing that may allow me to view the rest of the GFX, or is there some kind of GFX corruption Nintendo uses to make it unable to view or extract? Any help would be great.

Either it's compressed or the colors are confusing you. If the latter, you can load a ZSNES savestate as a pallete and cycle through. If the former, you can experiment with Lunar Compress, but you may have trouble if you're running an XP |

Here's what I do when I have this problem.
1st step: Compress YY-CHR in a .zip or .rar archive. 2nd step: Turn off AVG's Resident Shield. 3rd step: Extract YY-CHR. 4th step: ????? 5th step: PROFIT! When you turn AVG back on, it should detect YY-CHR. Delete the .exe (NOT the .zip or .rar), and repeat. |

Okay seems simple enough, I'm just bad with DOS, and don't know much about hex yet. What would I type as the offset to start with and a high offset to end with (if I want to scan the whole ROM)? I don't know what "flags" are, also I don't know what fromat to use, what's the difference, and how can I view & edit them once decompressed? |
