800,000 points in the 6th World, 99 lives, a Tanooki suit I got in world 4, and the spade game and the Treasure ship for my taking.
(Save States are fun.) |

Bah. I'm sure I could do a great clean run (save stating only to save, nothing else) if I wanted to.
Playing SMB3 again is a lot like re-learning how to ride a bike. No trouble at all after the first stupid death or two. |

Bah, try managing to get like 10+ Hammer Bros. suits.

Bah, try beating it on the original NES without warps. No savestates for you, cheap-skate. Then we'll see whose ass gets kicked. This is even moreso if you were to be doing so for the first time, around the time when it came out. Although injecting time travel into this topic may be taking this a bit too far, the point remains.

Well, since you are in World 6, you should be able to find a Hammer Brothers suit in that Red Mushroom house above the ship.
The odds of getting that suit in the mushroom house is pretty high I believe. (edited by fabio on 07-21-06 01:01 AM) |

Never played the emulated version. I recorded myself beating the NES game in 2 hours 30 minutes though. Every level, nearly every toad house (I'm pretty sure you can't get every toadhouse in the game), hammer brother, at least one of every item, every match game, 2 white ships and I defeated King Koopa with a Tanooki Suit.
Haven't played the game in a couple weeks so I doubt I could do that again. Congrats on your saved version though...must be nice to not have to restart when you accidently kick your Nintendo. |

I can get 99 lives in the second level without save states easily... As for getting a load of points like that... I'd just try to completely clear out a level; I've done it before, but it was because I was bored. I feel guilty using save states, so I almost never use them.
Try getting 99,999,999 points in Super Mario World. It takes less than 30 minutes if you know how to do it. |

Being the ultimate SMB3 Hacker I'm tempted to make a quick no save-state complete every level run of SMB3 to see what my final score and time would be....

It's nice to watch legit runs sometimes though. |

Originally posted by Alastor the Stylish Hey, even they fuck up horribly (or get horribly fucked up) from time to time. Just look at the ones from the 100% All-Stars SMB3 one, or maybe even the ones from the DKC3 one. And besides, anyone can be a "professional" speed runner if they put enough work into it. Originally posted by KATW It depends on the glitch. The ones in the Metroid games and other sequence breaks are generally considered okay, but ones such as the screen warp glitch in Link's Awakening is not. |
