My gf accidently spilled Code Red on my DS yesterday. Oddly enough it was working fine after the spill. Then I go and try it today and all I get is a fuzzy sound, then the bottom screen flashes for a spilt second, then it shuts off.
Now I gotta figure out how to keep myself busy for the next couple months. Feel sorry for me and donate your DS to the "CF needs a new DS" fund! I wonder if I can file a lawsuit against Mountain Dew for breaking my DS. |

You should make your girlfriend by you a knew one. Seriously. Why was a drink that could be spilled in the same area as the DS anyway?

I doubt you'll be able to sue Mountain Dew for that.
It probably had time overnight to get into the system to screw it up. I WOULD donate but the 2 facts, 1) I don't have a DS to donate, and 2) I don't have money to donate kinda spoils that plan. How did she accidentaly spill the Code Red on the DS? |

put it in a washing machine. it's already broke, so it couldn't hurt to try right? ;D

Take it apart and clean the board and contacts. If it didn't fry initially it might not be dead. It's obviously shorting somewhere, hopefully that hasn't killed it.
Hey, it's broken anyway. What have you got to lose? |

setz is right, except that a washing machine is likely to break it further. You SHOULD do your damnedest to get the sticky liquid out, though. Using a less sticky liquid is not a horrible idea, just so long as you can dry it afterwards before using it to avoid frying it. However, in all likelyhood, you've already fried it, and anything less than a best-case scenario involves something very bad which you can't fix.

Originally posted by Kasdarack This is very true, and if you feel you know your way around the hardware (as in, you could properly reassemble it afterwards), I would actualy recomend it. You can use water on a damp cloth or paper towel, or the fluid they make to clean game board connectors (though I perfer water simply because I'm not entirely sure what the long term effects of those chemicals can do to non-conductant electronic hardware..) You have nothing to loose like its been said. If all else fails, you might be able to send it to NOA and have them fix it. Usualy they only do it for free if its a fault on their end, but, if you don't mind paying, it'd be less than buying a new DS.. |

You could always take it to a nearby EBGames or Gamestop where they can refurbish it. I'm not sure how much it would cost, if anything, but that would be the quickest way and you can ensure that your DS will work.

I broke my top screen of my DS once...
Sent it into Nintendo Repair service for about $80, and a package came a week later with a brand new DS Much cheaper than getting a new one (Unless you want a lite that is ) |

Kario's going to have his way with the ladies one day, I can tell.
How old was the DS? Doubt it's still under a warranty but you never know... |

Try getting some very clean water, and flushing it.
Since pure water doesn't connduct electricity, perhaps it would be able to wash out your DS? Don't do anything too rash, though. |

That's actualy a very good and probably the most obvious solution, the battery might have died. Try to change that, first.

Well, I would take it apart myself to clean it, but I don't have the tool for it. You need some kind of 3-way screw driver thing to unscrew it. Unfortunatly, my favorite game Mario Kart DS way in it, and when I did take it out it is was wet and I don't have another DS to try it in....
I could try taking it in to the EB games near my house to get it fixed, but I would like to trade it in for the Lite... I got the DS just when it came out, so I don't think its under the warrenty |

I didn't like the Lite, it's too small for my hands.
I dunno how well you'd do trading in broken hardware. Would they even accept that in trade? As far as getting it fixed goes, will it be worth it to fix it and then trade it in? MKDS is probably fine. Your data might be erased, but the pak itself should be ok. When I encounter screws and pins I can't remove I always just drill them out. Old TF customizing trick. Alternatively, you could just take a dremel or something and slot the screws yourself so a normal screwdriver will do. As far as they are recessed in there though, drilling them out would be the easiest way. You don't actually have to drill all the way through the screw, just drill into the top of it with a counterclockwise spin. as soon as the bit manages to get a real bite into the screw it will unscrew and voila! Done. *edit* left out a word in the middle of a sentence... (edited by Kasdarack on 07-13-06 01:10 PM) |

Speaking of screws, you probably shouldn't do it on the DS (might melt something), but heating them with a soldering iron tends to make them soft and easy to turn. |
