A few weeks ago, The Lost Boys was on TV. I remembered liking it as a kid, but I didn't truly appreciate its awesomeness until now. It has vampires! Loads of campy humor! Bizarro fashion straight out of a metal video! And...both Coreys! Corey Feldman looked exactly the same as he did in The Goonies (another favorite - so many entertaining characters and random goofiness that never gets old), but his voice was much deeper, which cracked me up.
I loved Flight of the Navigator as a kid, but I can't for the life of me remember anything about it now except for the spaceship stairs that dropped like liquid mercury and then solidified. I have to watch that movie again sometime. Also, *batteries not included. |

This reminds me that I really need to see Blade Runner completely through.
According to my friend they're supposedly bringing it back to theaters sometime soon. |

I managed to acquire "Elvira", "The Wizard" and "monster Squad" the other day.... I'm probably going to hell...
Oh and I remember really wishing as a 10 year old that my Spectrum could create Kelly LeBrock for me like in Weird Science, Ah well |

Ah, The Wizard. It gave my best friend and me a shared monster crush on Fred Savage. And the first look at Super Mario Bros. 3, which was a major big deal in 1990...and that's putting it mildly. I used to have dreams about what that game would be like.
I need to watch The Princess Bride again. I saw it years ago and thought it was great, and from what I understand, it stands the test of time very well. People everywhere quote it, and I don't know any of the references except "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." I remember liking Willow a lot, too. |

I have yet to see The Wizard, besides random bits on TV in the past.
The Princess Bride, that's a movie I should buy. The humor is great. Also ... Spaceballs. |

Spaceballs is WIN. "She's gone from suck to blow!" "I see your schwartz is as big as mine!" I knew a kid in middle school who watched it so many times that he broke the tape. If we don't have that on DVD already (sometimes we pick up random things we like when we see them and forget we have them), I need it. | |||

I have to add something else to this thread.
Some of you may not know it, but Wolfman does in fact have nards. Monster Squad kicked all kinds of ass. |

The Princess Bride is my favourite. I watched it on the weekend with a friend... well, some of it... before heading to bed. I like the swordfight at the start with Inigo and The Man in Black
I'm also dazzled by Vizzini's amazing logic in the Battle of Wits. Man in black: [turning his back, and adding the poison to one of the goblets] Alright, where is the poison? The battle of wits has begun. It ends when you decide and we both drink - and find out who is right, and who is dead. |

Whenever I think of eighties movies, the first thing that comes to mind is that scene in the breakfast club where they're dancing along the railing to "We Are Not Alone".
Actually, whenever I just think of the eighties, that's the first thing that comes to mind. |

Princess Bride is good stuff and all, but what about another Rob Reiner movie, This Is Spinal Tap?
(After a concert where Spinal Tap have been humiliated because "[They] had a Stonehenge in danger of being trampled by dwarves!"; their manager produces Nigel Tufnel's original sketch-on-a-napkin of the prop in question, which clearly shows 18" instead of the proper 18') David St. Hubbins: "Yes, but you're not an confused as Nigel is! IT'S NOT YOUR JOB to be as confused as Nigel is!" And other classic scenes; getting lost backstage, getting stuck in the pod, and the list goes on. RANDOM FUN FACT: During one Marty DiBergi interview where they're discussing reviews of Spinal Tap albums, David St. Hubbins remarks "I've never heard that one before." in response to one of the reviews. Michael McKean (Who played St. Hubbins) actually hadn't heard it before; it was ad-libbed for that take. |

I just remembered another one.
Adventures in Babysitting. Suburban teenager gets stuck babysitting two suburban kids. Her friend calls her in a panic from a seedy bus station in downtown Chicago, begging to be rescued. She goes, but she has to bring the kids with her. All manner of plausible and implausible hilarity ensues. I saw it when it was still new, and I totally wanted a Thor helmet like the little girl, who was about my age. I rented it some years later and it was still funny as hell. It's campy and absurd and it just somehow works. Just recently, I read that this movie is being remade. Way to be out of ideas yet again, Hollywood. Somehow I bet nobody will give a crap about the remake 20 years later. |

Yes, the eighties most definitely had the most attractive array of cinematic adventures. The Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones movies, the aforementioned The Wizard, *batteries not included, Flight of the Navigator, and Stand By Me, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, The Empire Strikes Back, The Breakfast Club...and the list obviously goes on.
Batman also started a return in comic-book movies which surged through the early 90's with some quality flicks. |

Horror Movies from the 80's were pretty damned good. I particularly enjoyed Creepshow.
I remember watching the Labyrinth as well. Very cool Jim Henson flick! |
