It seems to me that everybody likes metal, nowadays.
Other than me, anyway. I'm into indie/jazz, metal gives me a headache. Not that there's no good metal, Tool's a great band (with an amazing drummer). |

Appearantly, according to drjayphd, this belongs here... but sticking all metal into one topic is like sticking all comedy into one topic. It's kinda dumb... but whatever:
"Dragonforce is like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest got together and did a whole bunch of crack and speed and then got kicked in the nuts." Who agrees? |

Dragonforce is amazing.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8134937785993786668&q=dragonforce+fire+and+flames Thats their new single. Give it a listen, its amazing ( its also the edited cut version, the real song is like 7 minutes long ) Wlokos- Tool isn't metal, they're like progressive alternative. Their drummer is great though. You would probably like power metal, its not very intense, but it is fast and awesome. |

Heck, and here I was thinking I was the only one who knew about DragonForce.
They are awesome, as simple as that. The way they play their music, and how the vocals sound, is like what classic metal was. |

I'm not sure why so many people like them so much.
I didn't really care about their two newest albums after Valley of the Damned. The diversity was gone, and the majority of the songs sounded like repeated solo's and riffs, and whatnot. Overall, they just got boring to me. And if you think they have impressive solo work, try listening to some bands off of shrapnel records. I like Valley of the Damned a lot though, but that's about it. Until they pull out something besides being the fastest band alive, I can't say I'm the biggest fan anymore. As for metal, I've gotten into Racer X and Impellitteri lately. (edited by Racer Xeo on 06-26-06 08:29 PM) |

I love metal. Rather than discussing, I'll just list some of my fav. bands.
Alice in Chains is very much my fav. band. They're not metal, though, like so many of you seem to think... Anyway, I'm into the following: Lake of Tears Blind Guardian Demons & Wizards Iron Maiden D.A.D. Metallica Queensr˙che Rhapsody Opeth Evanescence Megadeth Lacuna Coil Ozzy Sevendust Pantera... sometimes Mercyful Fate if I'm in the mood to rofl a bit. Motorhead as done by other, more talented bands I love a few of Type o Negative's albums too... but I'm not sure if I can call them metal except for thier first (suck) album. That's not a whole huge list of metal bands, but I have pretty wide musical tastes so don't tend to specialize in a genre. I actually usually do pop-type rock when I'm on stage. If you don't know Lake of Tears, download one of thier albums (NOT the first 2...) Xeo: You listen to Impelliteri? Have they even made anything since the 80's? That dude is so full of himself... it's pretty funny. (edited by Kasdarack on 06-28-06 08:58 PM) |

Aren't most shred guitarists?
(Malmsteen, Micheal Angelo Batio, etc) Oh well, they may be bitchy but I enjoy their work. Yes, Impellitteri's put out -quite- a few albums after the 80's, like, a ton. |

I'm a huge metal fan. Right now I've been digging Between the Buried and Me's "Alaska," and "Armageddon March Eternal" by The Project Hate MCMXCIX. I've been on a Dillinger Escape Plan binge since I saw them last Sunday. I've also been on an Opeth binge, for no particular reason other than how much ass they kick. I just got over a Lamb of God binge.
The Project Hate MCMXCIX, who I will now abbreviate as just TPH, is pretty interesting, and I haven't seen them mentioned in this thread or at all on this board. Let me try to describe them: Take a standard melodic metal core. Imagine a male growling singer and a soft girl singer. Now imagine they switch between heavy rocking and soft progressive melodies. Now imagine that the drums aren't a real drummer, but programmed, and they go back and forth from realistic-sounding metal drum patches and techno/club mmph-pssh drum sounds. That is TPH. If you don't like reading all that, you can just listen to this to see what I mean. (Mods: That MP3 is hosted on the band's official website. I would not link to it if the band were not advertising it.) Anyways, here's just a list of the metal bands in my MP3 player at the moment, with the stuff I reccomend the most in bold: Anthrax Avenged Sevenfold Beatallica (They're half Metallica, right?) Between the Buried and Me Black Sabbath Children of Bodom Deftones The Dillinger Escape Plan Dream Theater Fantomas (Are they metal? Who knows) Guns 'N Roses Iced Earth (Not really a big fan of them, for some reason they're in there though) In Flames Iron Maiden Judas Priest Lamb of God Megadeth Meshuggah Metallica Metroid Metal (Free at the website) Opeth Ozzy Osbourne Pantera Rammstein Slayer Slipknot (Not a huge fan, but I listen occasionally) System of a Down (If you can call them metal) The Project Hate MCMXCIX Trivium PS - I like the occasional shred, but for the most part I hate shred albums. Most of those guys tend to focus on playing fast all the time, which seems to take away from the music pretty often. There's plenty of great shredders that make their shredding work in bands; Those types tend to be my favorites. Also, DragonForce deserves to be mentioned. I don't think I'll care about them a year from now, or even a few months, but they're the kings of cheesy right now. *DarkSlaya looks at wite's list.
*DarkSlaya looks at Slayer. Not much a fan of them, and I must say that my favorite member of the band is Dave, which I'm probably gonna meet next monday. |

Originally posted by DarkSlaya Slayer is as close to required listening as you can get for metal. Even if you don't like them, you have to at least have heard them. Have to. I think there's no reason to buy most of their albums, though. They worked on a forumla, perfected it sometime around Hell Awaits / Reign in Blood, and then wore it out and fucked it up over the rest of their careers. |

Originally posted by witeasprinwow ... so, do you like Racer X or Impellitteri? Both definitely "shred" metal bands, but they have some strong albums also if you ask me. I also love Marty Friedman / Jason Becker's Cacophony albums. Horrible horrible vocalists, but you can tell they went for a more instrumental focus on their two albums they put out. Not insanely fast either, the solo's are pretty melodic, and often slow. They last for awhile, but they're so smooth and so well done its impressive. And I liked a good handful of stuff on your list. Good tastes. |

I'm just gonna assume that Impelliteri has started writing better music since putting out the album that I have (Stand in Line.) Otherwise I might have to question your tastes =P | |||

I'm actually pretty sure their albums are "Up's" and "Downs".
Screaming Symphony would probably be one to check out. Also to be entirely random here's my little CD Collection. Originally posted by .XG |

I actually like Iced Earth's Dark Saga cd... but that's possibly because I'm a Spawn fanboy.
I totally forgot to mention Manowar in my list earlier too. Warriors of the World = rox0r. I'll check out Screaming Symphony and all the cds you have in red and see what I think. Unfortunately, I've lost a lot of my music because a lot of my cds were stolen and the hard drive on my laptop died. I'm not gonna feel at all bad about downloading any of the albums I had. I just need to get around to doing it. |

I sometimes forget I upload songs for people on my site ...
Anyways, its your lucky day. Here's a good song from Screaming Symphony (In my opinion). Impellitteri - Rat Race Also I thought it would be worth posting some live stuff from Gamma Ray's Alive 95' album. Land of the Free (The intro is not them, so give it a few seconds. So yeah, the quality isn't "that" bad. , the guitar kicks in THEN its them.) Ride the Sky (Helloween) DarkSlaya has heard my teachings probably overdone, but Gamma Ray's been my favorite band since I discovered them late last year. Ok, yeah, that was a lot more tasteful than a lot of thier old stuff. I guess Chris finally decided that he didn't have to play every note on the damn fretboard every song to pull off a face melter.
I love awesome guitar solos as much as anyone, but I can get kinda soloed out. An awesome solo is cool, but I'm usually much more impressed by awesome rhythm guitar skills. That's not to say I didn't like the song, because I did. Dunno if I'd buy the cd or not. Chris Impelliteri has speed and he has skill, and he can definately thrash... but he doesn't have the melodic tastes that I expect from someone like say... Satch. Not that Satriani is metal. I'll have to hear more from the album though. I could see getting into it when I'm on a speed kick. *edit* Listening to the Gamma Ray now. Completely kickass guitar playing... and the vocals sound like Maiden. Thanks for turning me on to them. (edited by Kasdarack on 06-29-06 02:02 AM) |
