Heh... the game I started with... now back with more bending flavor
The idea behind this one is to use the four numbers given, and in some way, use mathematics to somehow come up with the number 24. Its very simple, but it gets tricky. There are only a few rules here... 1: All numbers are used once, and only once. 2: There is a limit on what kind of mathematics you can use. You are limited to Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Square roots, exponents, and parenthesis. Nothing else. 3: You must show your method either in step by step format, or in equational format. Otherwise I wont count it. Obviously, your answer must be distinct from the rest of your post, so use some sort of seperator (IE, a line of dots, dashes, ~~~~~~~'s) 4: Submit one answer per puzzle... yes. 5: If you happen to find an alternate solution, then post it for a possible bonus point. 6: First to 100 wins.. yaddah yaddah. So... lets get this started, shall we? -------------------------- Puzzle 1: 1 Point 1 2 3 4 -------------------------- Good luck everyone! |

Step 1: Multiply 3 times 2 which will give you 6.
Step 2: Multiply 6 times 4 which will give you 24. Step 3: Multiply 24 times 1 which will give you 24. |

1 * 2 * 3 * 4 = 24
Bonuses: sqrt(4) ^ 3 * (2 + 1) = 24 2 ^ 3 * (4 - 1) = 24 (edited by beneficii on 06-11-06 01:54 PM) (edited by beneficii on 06-11-06 01:54 PM) (edited by beneficii on 06-11-06 01:55 PM) (edited by beneficii on 06-11-06 01:58 PM) (edited by beneficii on 06-11-06 02:00 PM) |

Darn, too bad I work 3:30 to midnight. Oh well, for fun:
[sqrt(64) - sqrt(32/2)] * 6 = 24 ^_____________^ EDIT: As for your rule, KATW, what about this one? 5: If you happen to find an alternate solution, then post it for a possible bonus point. So we should just ignore that one? (edited by beneficii on 06-12-06 02:09 AM) |
