It keps changing.
When i bought it, it was about 1.3 Ghz
few years later, Shows up betwen 700 - 1000 Mhz
Right now, PC is about 9 years old, Always shows up 500 Mhz.
Anyone know why?

It might be overheating and slowing down to avoid damaging itself. Has it ever shown up at more than 1.3ghz?

Uh, I didn't think 1.3GHz PCs existed 9 years ago...

I was thinking the same thing, unless the processor is newer then the pc..

ive had a similar problem on this pc, although it shows up as 900mhz under the my computer properties, using a benchmarking program showed the real clock speed at 1.99Ghz

it might be windows being stupid and misreading it, because now it reads normal for me, so check again, or use a benchmarking app, and see what it says.

9 years ago would be 1997. As a point of reference, I remember that the 500MHz Pentium III came out in 1999.

I can't imagine how a 1.3 GHz CPU could even plug into a motherboard that old.

Yeah, I think you're about right with the speeds and times there.

Doing a bit of research I find the following CPU information:
1997 - Intel Pentium with MMX Overdrive
Processor Speed 125, 150, 166, 180, 200 MHz

1997 - Intel Pentium with MMX(P55C)
Split Rail Voltage
Processor Speed 166, 200, 233 MHz

So for a 9 year old computer, the maximum we're looking at here is around 233Mhz.

I'd like some more explanation on this mysterious 1.3Ghz system from 1997
