Well, apparently the Wii is going to cost $250 or less

On another note, the rumor of there being a microphone along with the speaker built into the Wii-mote, has become more probable with Nintendo registering this site. Right now it just forwards you to the nintendo home page though.

$250 or less? RIGHT ON

Me wants. Screw PS3. I'm going to get myself a DS (as soon as the Lite comes out so the price of DS gets lowered) and a Wii, and then I will be one happy camper.

Looking at the Nintendo page, I noticed something. I remember them saying they were talking to 3rd party developers to try and get their games on the virtual console, but I dont remember them saying for sure that they had them yet. If you look on the Wii page, it says that it will have Classic Sega Genesis games as well.

The Sega things was mentioned a while back... I think they had some other console going on, too, but I don't remember what.

250 or less... not bad. Can't say I'm too interested in the karaoke thing, though...

Confirmed for the Virtual Console: NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, TG-16. They could probably add others (SMS comes to mind) but for now, those are your five.

"All" (depending on licenses and that I guess) Nintendo first party stuff should be on there, along with Sega first-party games and Hudson games for the TG-16. More to follow. That's why I want to do a big "what might/might not be on the VC" blog post.

And Nintendo has officially won the next-gen console war by confirming this awesome price for Wii.

I´ll definitely get one. Due to the price, I can get an assload of controllers at the same time too.

No karaoke for me.

What about the games created by Rare but under nintendo licences? Such as the DK Country series and DK64? Is there no chance for them appearing on the virtual console or not?

I guess its a bit of a tricky issue due to nintendo owning the entire concept and characters, but Rare being credited for game design etc.

Nintendo has pretty much announced that the Donkey Kong games will be available for download.

We had better see rondo for that system. If they release it in english, I think I'm going to cream my pants thrice over. And then one more time when I wake up. lets say I would hop on the wii fanboy wagon in an instant.

Well, they'll have to localize it first and see if there's gonna be any big demand.

I think it would be a smart move to translate a small number of Japanese games. You know, to show us what we missed.

I think they'd probably only wind up doing that for the bigger name ones, if they do it at all. You're not too likely to see, for instance, Wonder Project J, but you may see a few of the unreleased Akumajo Dracula/Castlevania games. I can see them releasing the original Mother, also, but that's questionable considering their constant abuse of that series.

Hmm, I wonder how this'll translate to the UK given as Sony REALLY stiffed us on the price (We have to pay £425, which is approx $700).
Having a mic is intruging though.

I still prefer Sony's Singstar though SIngstar OL wil takeSOME beating... when the price comes down.

The only thing that bothers me about the Wii is how people lambast Sony for copying them, when really Ninty have copied Sony. The Wii is a next gen version of the Eyetoy. Nothing more. That said it looks like a lot of fun and I might get one

More like an update on the Power Glove.

Like NSN said, it's more of a powerglove. The Eyetoy only tracked changes in picture (attempted to follow you by utilizing imagry), the Wiimote just uses various sensors in the controller (though that dingie you put on the TV might be somewhat of the same thing).

Of course, it is just an advanced powerglove

I'm pretty sure it'll be around £140 here, the same as the GC was at launch.

The actual conversion of the price in yen will be around £120, so it's natural for them to mark the price up a tiny bit (eg. to £140).

Yeah, that's pretty much the thing. If people want karaoke games, they'd rather buy the 140£ or whatever console than the three-times-the-price PS3. Karaoke is karaoke no matter who manifactured the console, and no matter how much a Sony fanboy the buyer/clerk/buyer's boyfriend is, defending the purchase of a PS3 is not going to be easy.

And yeah, Nintendo sorta-kinda copied Sony this time. Apart from the fact that the PS2 controller didn't have a microphone, while the DS did (and the N64 had an add-on that was only used for one game), and the fact that karaoke machines have been around for a long time. But still...
