A few months back, I started a remake of Super Mario Land 2, but I didn't make it well-enough known. Shortly afterwards, Link2006 started a remake of it too, and I gave up mine. Looking back on it yesterday, I realised that he hadn't shown progress of it since around then, so I PMed him and asked him if he was still making it. He replied no and said that I'm free to take over it, so that's just what I'm doing.
Here are some screenshots of what I did back then: I want to know if you guys think I should use SMAS rips, or colourised SML2 rips. Comments? Suggestions? Questions? (edited by Pac-Man on 05-16-06 04:26 PM) |

Enlarged, reworked and colored SML2 graphics... That's what I'd go for. I'm fully aware that wasn't an option, but to me that means the project isn't ambitious enough to be interesting.

Yeah, Bio, Sure. I want to make this as accurate as possible.
Anyway, the results are clear, so I'm gonna redraw the SML2 GFX with more colour and detail. Stifu, what do you mean by enlarge? 16x16's the limit, you know. |

The screens look decent, I'd say 'go for it' but I choose pudding... I can have the pudding right?
The collaboration of the different basic sets gives off some clean screens. (edited by [GGS] Cruel Justice on 05-16-06 04:21 PM) |

Originally posted by Pac-Man Taking the limits in mind, of course... But since the resolution of the GB is so much lower than the one of the SNES, having the graphics as is will make the levels look very empty... No ? But yeah, I thought the SML2 sprites were smaller than that. |

They're 16x16. But I do agree that most levels will look empty. The only solution then is to space things out a bit more. For example, most ? blocks are 2 spaces above the ground; I could put them 3 above.

Well, the levels look good overall, so you shouldn't worry about that... You can also make one or two the classic "Black and White" Palette, like in SML...

Holy crap, I totally missed this! If you want I already have some self-shaded SMW style SML2 graphics, as Yokoi and the team obviously were going for a pocket SMW feel, so IMOO it'd be appropriate to give it a colored SMW feel as well, though you may prefer the SMAS style. A small problem that you may encounter though is that to get a better feel you'd need to have a background layer which was never in the original, just the static one. This could be accomplished by mixing in SMAS graphics, or even fitting ones from other games, or you could try and work off the SML2 static "backgrounds" and make a layer. It depends on how much you want to revamp and how much you want to recreate...

How about SML2 graphics... With SMA4 palettes?
My only question is... Rabbit Mario should be pretty interesting. Great idea, Pac-Man! |

If you want it locked, I can't lock it because I don't mod SMW hacking. :\
I'm just gonna say "SMAS graphics". |
