How would I go about this? I'll list what I have.
No PAL capable TVs - a spare VGA monitor - 1 US unmodded first-run Gamecube (has the digital out) - an old Action Replay which has some early Freeloader version included - a copy of the PAL Pokemon Box Ruby/Sapphire. I'd imported a Japanese copy of that game several years ago. It boots up great with the Action Replay, but won't link to US carts or even the JP ROM on a Supercard CF (I can connect other games together fine using it). I went ahead and got the PAL version last week. I do the usual loading steps, then get a totally black screen and no sound. AFAIK, the picture should at least roll like setting 50hz mode on homebrew DC games containing this option do. I'd heard there's a newer standalone Freeloader. Pretty much, I've got three options. One- Buy a Japanese Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, LeafGreen, or Emerald. If someone would kindly point me to somewhere who has one under $50... Two- FInd the new Freeloader edition. I get both no sound and no video, so this might fix the booting issue. Three- Try some kind of VGA adaptor. I'd just route the audio portion to external speakers. I'm not giving up, one way or another I will make my Pokemon store on Pokemon Box. Any advice? |

Lemme see if I read this right. You're trying to run the PAL version of Pokémon Box on a US Gamecube, and link it to the US/JP versions of the Pokémon GBA games? Box runs fine though? I imagine this is just region incompatibility, then. You probably need a PAL GBA cart.

Almost. The Japanese version of Box will start up, but won't link to either my US GBA games or ROMs on a flash cart. PAL Box just goes black, no picture or sound at all. This means I can't find out the latter version's cart compatibility to begin with.

If the Freeloader is the 1.04 version, that's your problem, as that thing barely works with anything.
As for Pokemon Box compatability, I'm pretty sure the PAL Box works with US GBA games. |

ATTENTION!
As I tested it myself with a PAL Copy of Pokémon Colloseum, a US-Copy of Pokémon Sapphire and a PAL and NTSC-Cube (Modded JAP-Cube for playing US-Games too). Pokémon Problem: Pokémon Colloseum (and Pokémon Box thereof) do not accept Pokémon Games from other Region (it didn't recognice my US-Copy of Pokémon Sapphire. So, if you wan't to link to US-Pokémon, you need US-Pokémon Games. (Linking between the GB Advance Titles in all regions no problems (some incompatibilities between Jap and Western games for Information). (Pre Advance Pokémon Titles are a different thing, no Linking between Western and Japanese Titles). General PAL-Problem: Most PAL-Games won't work with a Freeloader on a US or JAP-Cube. Or at least all PAL-Games released after Metroid Prime or Zelda; Wind Waker. Not Connecting Problem: For your Japanese Copy not accepting your flashed version, is it a hacked version or a [!] one in GoodROM-Terms? Wich games did you test with the Cube-GBA Connectivity? You have a copy of the instruction manual of Pokémon Box? What does it say how the connectivity should be handled? Has the GBA to be booted in Network-Mode? (Pressing Start + Select while turning on) or the Game Running? If it's the first one, you're out of luck, you would have to use a Flash-Cart wich does not need a Boot-Load and has working FLASH-Memory (I don't think SRAM would work.) |

Therefore, my guaranteed solution is to buy a legit Japanese Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, LeafGreen, or Emerald. Thanks! Where can I get one at reasonable price?
I should've said that the PAL Box was from Germany, It's manual is the one officially translated by Nintendo into German. I'd linked US Mario Golf Toadstool Tour to US Advance Tour from the flash memory, which worked perfect. My US Ruby and Emerald did accept connections from a Japan ROM. US Emerald even went so far as to upgrade that version of Sapphire enabling National Dex mode. Neat. While I couldn't directly link those imported ROMs to XD, their Pokemon did work if I'd traded to a US game first then XD. Okay, go back to the sentance in bold and that'll cure everything! |

Before you go and import a Japanese Pokémon game, you may scan the manual, as I'm perfecly able to read German.
You could Linkt to Advance Tour, because the GBA-Game had to be running, as I stated above, I think that Pokémon-Games download a App to the GBA. I myself have a Pokémon Sapphire and Leaf Green in Japanese (Both in OVP and everything) maybe I would sell. PM me for more. |
