Live A Live is a Squaresoft SNES game translated by good ol' Gideon Zhi and some other people. You should be able to find the ROM some place rather easily but as per the usual rules you must find it yourself.

It's probably the most fun I've ever had with a Square game. This isn't saying much because I think Square games tend to have boring dungeons, battle systems, and plotlines and be terribly overrated overall. But I did quite like SMRPG, and yet I still consider this game superior.

You can be a cowboy in a cliched western that's still interesting translated into an RPG, a caveman whose vocabulary ranges from zero to one word, and play as a kid seeking to fight evil with the ancient robot Buriki Daioh. That's just three of the 9 total scenarios you can play through, two of which are unlockable. The battle system too is a cut above the usual crap; you can move around a board and use a bit more strategy to beat your varied opponents.

The great thing is that you know where you stand in this game. Square seemed to know that it was using old cliches and it never tried to hide that fact. The scenarios are filled with parodies and references to whichever genre you're playing. It gets better, though, because Square didn't just take a bunch of cliches and hammer them together. Twists and turns and gameplay elements you'd never find in other Square RPGs appear and make this game a real gem.

Even Kyouji Craw/Alastor, who didn't even like Super Mario RPG, likes this game. Why this game isn't more popular is a mystery to me.

It's not so much that Super Mario RPG was a terrible game, but Paper Mario and Paper Mario 2 were just... So much better

But yeah, this game rules so hard.

It just sucks that I can't say what makes me love it to death because of spoilers

This isn't the type of game I can grow fondly to.

Got old.

Fast.

Yes, I've beaten the stories.

I LOVED that game.

I use past tense because I beat it a while ago, and never dig up the ROM anymore.

But oh Jeebus, it was a work of art. I had to look up a guide a few times, though.

You say it got old...

...

And every other game to ever come out of Square didn't?

I'm not in the mood to argue, but you must admit their other stuff is more repetitive than most

It's not that I can't stand this game, I mean, it's more complete than all 1-12 Final Fantasys', but I just don't get that gameplay I'm looking for. I hated the battle system of Final Fantasy.

SMRPG, Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts, and Star Ocean are the games I'm comparing to, because, well, I like their battle system, and leveling up is more worth while.

Don't get me wrong. Their story is FANTASTIC. It's the battle system that got me away from it.

Even though SMRPG's battle system was much closer to FF's, which you hated, and didn't allow things like moving around the battlefield or acting without any sort of MP, you liked its battle system but not Live a Live's.

Riiiight.

SMRPG gets bonus points for a complete removal of random battles while Live a Live had only a partial removal, but SMRPG was just a lot more linear and less varied than LaL both in its battle system and overall.

I liked SMPRG because it's 3D platform and the fact that I've enjoyed it as a child.

Live a Live is just... pointless.

So... You're nostalgic, and therefore a mediocre game is better than a game which is actually fun?

Your logic sucks.

You're trying to apply logic to why someone likes something. That's something that doesn't work logically.

I haven't played it, but I think I will at some point... If nothing else, the (at least somewhat) lack of random battles sounds appealing.

You've got it backwards.

Live a Live isn't bad, just boring. Mediocre? Sure, you can call it that.

Oh, and logic obeys me.
