It's upon us... the big press conferences today/tomorrow leading up to the show opening on Wednesday. Feel free to use this thread to post about any late-breaking stuff... I mean, I assume that Wii and PS3 threads will eventually be posted tonight/tomorrow, but anything related to E3 can go here.
So, what we know so far... - Square Enix was in FULL ATTACK MODE during their press conference today. Among the next gen highlights were two (!) Wii games - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (which apparently looked VERY nice) and Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors (Dragon Quest comes back home! ), along with a little game entitled Final Fantasy XIII for the PS3. Yoshinori Kitase's in charge of this one and it has a futuristic feel. (Actually, they announced THREE XIII games... two PS3, one mobile. Yeah...) - Sega has a new Sonic game ready that looks to be set in the human world. Yeah. That's only coming out for the PS3 and 360, while the Wii gets a new Super Monkey Ball game. Virtua Fighter 5 will be a PS3 exclusive. - SNK Playmore has Metal Slug Anthology for the Wii (yes, a complete collection of the ridiculously addictive arcade series) and a 3D King of Fighters game for the PS2. That... might puzzle some fans of that series. Fingers crossed. - Jade Empire's coming out for the PC. Good to hear, I heard good things about the Xbox version so... might be worth checking out. Still to come later tonight: Sony's press conference which will be watched with great interest regarding a launch date/price. Tomorrow: Nintendo shows off the Wii and Microsoft traps game reporters with a one-hour Vista presentation before the 360 goodness. |

Let's talk Sony.
- Worldwide release scheduled for "early November", no price set. That's very worrying. - PS3 apparently comes with a hard drive in the box. - Looks like the PSP is officially going to have a download service for PS1 games. - They showed a version of their Marketplace deal... I hope they don't keep the prices shown. (They showed a mockup for Warhawk... a new tank will cost you $2.99, a new level $7. No thank you.) - A ton of games shown but no blockbusters as of yet... they started with Gran Turismo which probably won't be a launch title. Graphics are apparently nice but not much different than 360 on a whole. Ah, there's one big one... MGS4. Some good buzz for that. - The final controller... has MOTION CONTROL. Hello, Sony stealing ideas off of Nintendo. Actually, it seems to only be motion control and not spacial, but still. I think they were using a Dual Shock controller instead of the Batarang, but don't hold me to that. EDIT: Price/date revealed! November 17th here, $499 for the 20GB HD, $599 for the 60GB HD. Apparently there were cries of "JESUS CHRIST!" regarding that one. And some more lewd ones. (edited by Colin on 05-08-06 09:54 PM) |

And while we're at it, one of the FFXIII games is Nomura's new project between KH2 and KH3.
Confirmed. |

Metal Slug Anthology? Holy shit! I HAVE TO GET THAT!
Metal Slug is a great game. I'd play it if I had the money. The fact that it is going to have the whole collection is just... wow. WOW! And Crystal Chronicles again? I thought it was going to be on the DS... eh, whatever. That game will be a lot better via Wi-fi, that's for sure. Can't wait to hear more. It sucks I don't have satellite for the E3 coverage that they show on TV since its better to see it than read about it. |

PS3 impressions -
Gran Turismo HD looked incerdible especially the Grand canyon stagew Singstar Ps3 is a Karaoke fan's wet dream, and is the main reason for me wanting to play online. Awesome!! The new use for the Eyetoy? Pretty good, I imagine the Magic-The Gathering fans will wet their pants. Loved the "Eight days" and "getaway" trailers. Tekkenn looked pants next to VF 5 Motion sensored gamepads? Take THAT Wii!! Bloody expensive though, £400 for the top of the range model, £350 for the cheapest. Am I getting one though? You betcha!!! |

They probably HAD to make good with the legal stuff after the reaction to the Batarang last year. I mean... ye gods. That thing was just begging to be altered.
Elmo: You're actually the only one I've seen happy about the motion gamepads so far. A lot of the reaction is negative towards Sony for that one, since it's only in 6 directions (not total like the Wii) and it looks as if they're copying Nintendo, which they MIGHT not be, but at the moment you can draw the conclusion that they are. And be prepared to wait in long, LONG lines for the PS3... 2 million units available at launch. WORLDWIDE. This is going to be a 360 fiasco all over again... |

It makes sense that they're only having that much, though. Isn't Bluray really expensive to make right now? (Also explains the price.) I'm not saying it's reasonable on the consumer, but it make sense that it'd cost much.
Actually, thinking about it, how much did the first Ataris sell for? |

Colin - Hmm, posibly but you have to admit it's stealing Ninty's thunder a bit, I mean the motion sensing part's not a patch on what the Wii is capable of, but it does make the ps3 seem more versatile.

Well, this info just took some of the thunder away from Sony... they forgot to reveal some info during the press conference. Just a little bit, mind you.
Official press release. Specifically... if you want Wi-Fi, memory stick/SD/Flash media or HDMI output support, you MUST buy the $599 version. Otherwise you're screwed. Kyouji: Not sure on what an Atari would cost in today's money if it was released, but some people might buy a PS3 instead of a Blu-Ray player - those are going to be MORE expensive at first. Swallow that. |

Yes I've just read that... whiuch makes me wonder, why bother with the $499 one at all?

Originally posted by ColinThe extra stuff certainly justifies the price increase... And Colin, they're eating the money on the PS3 sales to promote the bluray format. It's likely going to be less functional than a real bluray player, though, like the PS2 was with DVDs. With more people being capable of playing blurays, though, more people will support bluray movies... So by eating money now, they get more money in the future. Or at least, that's the plan. |

They didn't make it clear at the press conference though, and that surprised me. I'd hope that you make it clear before launch because god forbid someone buys the $499 version and then wonders why they can't play online. I mean, at least the 360 Core system still has Live.
Kyouji: I dunno how much they're going to bleed on each system though. I'd say the MAX you could lose is $100, and anything above that is cause for a little concern short-term. |

You can still go OL with the core PS3 using the ethernet cable, it's a pain though.

Originally posted by ColinAka, pulling off the crap about Direct-X whatever being Vista only so people are forced to upgrade if they want gaming. Which is just a way to make people switch, Vista is not too diffrent from Win XP, and that's is it's biggest flaw... Would be intresting in this generation how it goes. X-box 360 hadn't too succeful start so far, but then the same was with the orginal X-box, it took awhile before it gained popularity. :/ Despite the high price with PS3, it wouldn't surprise me if they would sell it with a loss. Originally posted by Uncle ElmoAfter some basic research, it's hardly the same way. The motion sensor in the PS3 controller seems to be a pretty much a "tilt-detector" like thoose certain GBA games had. I'd think they're losing less money on the 360 now than they did in November, but still. Depends on game sales really.
And the 360's doing well in general... I think 3+ million units sold so far worldwide, which isn't bad given the supply problems. |

All I have to say at first, is..
"Fuck you Sony, fuck you to fucking hell with your idea stealing methods and your crappy E3 presentation with your giggling schoolgirl Ken Kutaragi." Seriously, the whole thing felt like a chore to watch, and that controller makes me very, very unhappy. I was looking forward to seeing what the revovation was going to but, but now I'm obviously pissed. |
