Janus: "I'm thoroughly unimpressed!!!"

Janus' hands were like lightning, flashing his hammer to and fro and keeping directly in time with Star's futile attempts to bring him down. It was as though he was an unstoppable force, annihilating all that stood in his path. Finally, he looked for an opening in Star's style--- brilliantly trained, though ultimately clumsy compared to the rate at which Janus could see the world.

Oh, the colors... The sights, the sensations of power that flowed through him like some kind of force of nature. He could see every blow that Star flung at him, a process even higher in order than instinct itself guided him as he himself flash-stepped away from Star, glowing bright purple for yet another deadly blow. He stomped his foot, and the seals that covered his skin were blown outward by a short wave of Chaos itself. The seals on the walls of the palace began to sizzle and scorch as they reacted with Janus' power.

From far away, Evan felt the first touch. He grabbed Shen, knowing full well the rate of their descent just wasn't going to be enough. Without a word, he made simply a loud yell as he pitched himself off of the soul platform and hurtled towards the earth. Even falling might not be fast enough...

Janus brightened, and there was little anyone could do at this point. He knew this, and he spread his arms...

"You call that power? I'll show you power beyond your wildest dreams!"

There was a massive, earth-shattering explosion of nuclear proportions, with Janus himself at its epicenter. Ground zero was his body, a vessel for the dark detonator. The very boundaries of the material plane shook with the force of his attack, as the waves of Chaos Energy that previously exuded from him ceased to be waves, and simply became one gigantic ball of power, steadily expanding and annihilating everything it consumed. He could feel it. With every Chaos Emerald he assimilated into his being, his power grew immensely, guiding him towards that one single principle that consumes those of any degree of heart, be it weak or strong. Through the storm, the wave, the ball, the strength of his domineering force, there was a grin on his face as a shine of black light surrounded him. He knew that this was it. The first step had been taken, and the journey towards his ultimate ascension had begun.

"Malestrom of Chaos!!!"

Slowly, surely, the ball expanded to consume all of Crystal Psipalace. Beams of silvery ethereal light could be seen from the crystal discs of the Psi Warriors who had as yet refused to evacuate the palace, whose resolve was finally broken by the awesome display of power at hand. It held itself at the breadth that the palace expanded to, and finally receded, all at once, back into Janus, who simply floated in the empty air that remained.

Crystal Psipalace was completely destroyed, and Evan could see no sign of Star anywhere.

Evan: "NO! NO WAY!"

He stared back upwards as he and Shen fell to the earth, and stopped short in the middle of his fall, the focused Chaos beneath him keeping him afloat as he held Shen in his arms. Evan was awestruck. That kind of power... It was more than he had handled in his own world. What had happened between dimensions? Did this mean that Janus...

"He destroyed it..."

...That Janus was potentially stronger now than he was when he had the seven, himself? He did not dwell on the subject for long, as the ball had removed itself and Janus floated in full view. He had barely broken a sweat, and was hardly out of breath at all from the devastating assault. Evan knew. Now was the time to run. Run from a monster...

A monster, that is, whose first clear thoughts beyond his rage went directly to Schwa. Where... Where did he go?

---------------

Kalar: "Ten times the rate? That's preposterous!"

Garro: "But payable. Also..."

Garro withdrew from his coat a bright green jewel. The fourth... An ancient artifact of the egyptian culture, one that had rested within the great Pyramids for the longest time. Long ago, before his fated absence, Janus had told Kalar and Garro of the emerald in the Pyramids. The struggles that they had encountered in the past, whereupon Janus had visited them in search for truth and reconciliation, had led them to know of its whereabouts and retrieve it as quickly as possible. The duo presented the emerald to Nijote with slight hesitation.

Kalar: "Fine, take the emerald. Do what it takes to get the job done, and you'll get your reward. We don't pay for failures."

He takes the emerald from Garro's hand, and tosses it to Nijote with a look of frustration and disgust on his face. This was proving to be harder than he had anticipated.

"Tch! It's overpriced... How good can he be... But if that's what it takes to bring Dracoon down, then so be it. Get moving!"

He shoots another disgusted glance at Kuroi...

"And as for him..."

He motions to Garro. Garro raises an eyebrow...

"Kill him. No need for questioning. I can only assume he's the only one trying to contact Yiusi right now, or there'd have been others at that altar. In any case, we can hunt the rest down ourselves."

Garro bristled at this, and another look from Kalar snapped him to attention. He strode to Kuroi, drawing one of his guns from within his long, brown coat and pointing it at Kuroi's unmoving head. The gun's barrel trembled for a few seconds...

"Do it!"

Garro: "..."

Kalar: "Do it now!"

Kalar's expression was one of rage. Defiance at a time like this? Was it not clear that Kalar was in control? That Kalar was the brains behind this section of the plan? Garro had played his part; Janus had been returned, and everything henceforth was to be Kalar's responsibility. That included the disposal of unwanted aspects. Garro and Kalar slowly understood everything that was happening to Janus, be it by the efforts of some cosmic force or a letter that had appeared in his apartment upon his return, signed by him and dated a month ago. They wanted nothing more than for him to accomplish his goal. If that, of course, was what it took to get him back.

But Garro faltered. The gun lowered its head, and Garro looked intensely at his companion.

Garro: "No. I refuse..."

Kalar's expression was one of surprise and anger. He was about to interject, bringing his own weapon to bear, but Garro held up a hand to stop him, and interrupted powerfully.

"You know, Kalar. You know it's not necessary. There's no need to kill him if he's done nothing so far, and I think if anything this little experience will teach him just who he's dealing with. And if you try to kill him, then I'll stop you. You know I can. Don't be a bastard."

Kalar's anger slowly subsided, and he ground his teeth in disdain. A few moments of thought, and he began to come up with a better, more devious idea...

Kalar: "Fine. Weakling. But in exchange, you let me deal with him. Maybe we'll question him after all. Go oversee Dracoon's destruction. I'm counting on you two."

Garro: "Much better. We'll do our best, won't we, Miss Nijote?"

Kalar motioned for them to be off, and Garro led Nijote out the door of the apartment and into the streets below. Kalar focused his gaze on the prone body of Kuroi, knowing Garro's spell would wear off soon. The shadows in the room surrounded him as he prepared... He walked to the window, grabbed the shade, and closed it, an evil grin on his face.

Star: "It's the same as before."

Star fet time slow as the explosion came towards him. He was thinking at the speed of light and he knew that it was just the same. Just like fighting the mamoth of power that Dracoon had. Uncontrollable, unpredictable. Star knew how to beat it, but now, it was to late.

Hector: "Now, we can't have you out of commission can we."

Hector had started his act. The moster, the fiend. A leech, a parasite on the face of every strong warrior. No matter how strong someone was, he could leech the power away from you to continue his own life. That monster, that fiend, that handsome rogue.

Hector: "Disappear as soon as you can, Janus can't see this."

The blast seemed to bend around Hector in Star, leaving them both safe. When the blast weakened, Star moved as fast as he could. Hector simpy folded himself into the world, the perfect mirrior. All it was, was a cheap trick, the monster, the fiend.

Shen slowed their fall as they were safe.

Shen: "Evan, please tell me what's going on."

Nijote: "Well now, I don't know why you wanted to come."

Nijote started walking down a busy street, quiet, not wanting to talk to Garro. The chaos emerald in her hand meant nothing to her, it was just a stone that she could never admire.

Nijote: "You aren't coming any further, is that all right?"

Garro: "Not in the least, Miss Nijote. I've been given orders to monitor your progress and provide proper backup. If you do have a problem with this, I suggest you give more of a reason than "you aren't coming any further". We can't have you failing, now can we?"

The man stood resolute, folding his arms in a distinguished manner. He waited for her to respond.

---------------

Evan sighed, taking cover in the forests below the former Crystal Psipalace. He hugged Shen, glad she was safe, and released her to the ground, standing to his full height. Despite his face being obscured, it was clear that he was dismayed with what he had to say...

Evan: "Shen, I can't.. Not now. It's not time yet, we have other things that need to be done, we have to guarantee the safety of several very important people right now. Yiusi, for one. He'll go after her no matter what. There's still some semblance of the old Janus left, and he'll want to see her."

Evan turned and looked to the skies. There was another floating isle, one that they'd have to go to before Janus could reach it...

"We can't let that happen. For all we know, she might be in love with him for real. It sounded that way, from the way he was talking to Schwa. As far as I can tell, he never got to find out for sure, and we can't risk the only piece of reality that Janus has left in him falling to pieces when she sees what he's become."

He turned away from her, towards the place where Schwa had fallen.

"Come on. We need to find Schwa and keep him safe. I'm not sure what Janus desires more; power, or Schwa's head."

Nijote: "Fine then, but if you say anything at all, the deal is off."

Nijote walked forward into a bar. It was absolutely empty, it always was. Nijote kept moving, looking at the bartender. He didn't seem to notice her. There was only one other person in the bar, in the back corner. The person was completely hidden from anything. Nijote sat across from this person and put the chaos emerald on the table.

Nijote: "I have a job for you, at one hundred times the price of a high profile assassination."

The person looked up and put a hand at the chaos emerald.

Nijote: "You will use this to kill Dracoon. Anything else won't work."

The person nodded and looked at Garro.

Nijote: "He will pay you after this is over, there will be no conformation as the field will be contaminated. If the emerald still exists, someone else will have to pick it up."

The person nodded, grabbed the chaos emerald and slowly left.

Nijote: "I want my fee now Garro, then you can trail Doe if you want. I would trust Doe though, he's never failed me."

Shen didn't move.

Shen: "Evan, I won't follow you anymore."

Shen turned away from Evan.

Shen: "I can't follow you anymore, I'm not like you. I'm tired, I don't want to fight."

Shen started to walk away, her mind set.

Shen: "Please, come by tonight or tomorrow, I'll be waiting."

Star: "How did you do that to so much energy?"

Hector laughed, they had managed to meet up in a valley between two mountains.

Hector: "It's chaos. Chaos promotes the ability to change things in erratic ways. It was like making the air change direction."

Star didn't understand. He wanted to stop Janus, but he had no way to do it.

Star: "I'm leaving, there is no reason for me to stay here, I'm useless."

Hector: "Maybe, but it might be you that has to kill him. Just think, if he's so strong with chaos emeralds, then imagine if you had them? What if you had three or four of the chaos emeralds, just think of the power you could wield."

Star: "I don't desire power like you."

Star started to leave, Hector didn't bother to stop him, there was no reason to. He didn't figure the plan would've worked anyways.

Kuroi's eyes flicker open. He takes a cautious look around the room, his eyes moving slowly, not lingering on the objects in the room as those of a normal person might. He swings himself into a sitting position, and begins to think.

That's really the advantage of experience. A hero, a hero probably would have rushed into the street, and then... what? The hero would have to think of what to do next, and would look stupid in the process. Kuroi has seen enough seconds pass him by to cherish and savor each one he recieves. So now he waits, and considers his position.

After all, when dealing with people who have no respect for the sanctity of prayer, it is often wise to assume other erratic behaviors. There's probably someone else in this room... They saw him summon his statue, and if they're so determined to stop him from praying, they'd need to guard him. Sadly, it's obvious the prayer will have to wait until he can be sure of its completion. It is rude to be interrupted.

The second ends. Kuroi decides to wait, to see what his captors have in store for him.
