My only beef with alcohol is that I highly believe it's best used in a social setting, not as a tool to help you forget your problems. This is the bad side of alcohol that I tend to let wash my view on the whole subject. Anytime I feel stressed out and it's hard to take the problems life deals you, I tend to think I should just have a beer to help relax and settle my nerves because that's what everyone else does, seems like the easy way out.
Plus, my father was an alcoholic and I'm scared of what drinking alcohol might do to me since we have very similiar personalities. I'm 22 and haven't tried it yet, save for a small sip a friend's mom had me try once. I do plan to try it someday but it will be with someone I can trust, like a long term girlfriend or a few friends and it won't be something I can't stand the taste of (I hear there are well tasting alcholic drinks out there..., dunno myself though). |

I've been accused of leaning on alcohol when I'm stressed, I'll admit. Thing is, I wouldn't do it if I were by myself -- but if I'm stressed and my friends/housemates are home, I might have a drink or two. It IS good for settling your nerves.
I think if I ever catch myself drinking alone, that will be pretty scary for me. |

The only alcohol I'm guilty of drinking is Kosher wine that I had two years ago around the holidays.

Well, I dunno really either Falkon, but it's certainly true that the general English or Australian attitude to alcohol is different to the general American... and I'm sure Canada's culturally closer to that than to the US as far as drinking goes. I just threw French in there cos I know they do it differently on the Continent (the whole "wine for kids!" thing?) and I have no idea to what extent those attitudes permeate Canada. I'm 20 years old and I don't drink any alcohol. Except the time when I was 3 years old but it was an accident. I drank some beer.

Canada has a really weird drinking culture, especially amongst the working class. I've yet to see anyone in Canada just snub alcohol as a grand evil or anything. At least those that come from my area. It is generally accepted that alcohol can't be bought by minors, but should be allowed to be consumed by minors. That drunkeness isn't vile and disgusting, rather, it is just revellry in another form. I mean, I think all of Canada thinks in this way, even the university styled intellectuals. I've often gone drinking (not so lightly either) with my professors.

I like drinking but I don't like getting drunk, especially with my 18 month-old daughter in the house. I never got drunk in front of her as far as I know.
It's just the taste of certain alkies that make me enjoy the pleasure of drinking. It takes me several drinks to see pink elephants but it's hard to limit myself. If only alcohol didn't taste so good I wouldn't go past my limit. |

I'm 16, and it's legal for me to drink here but I rarely drink any alcohol, though I like Beer with a touch of Lemon, it just owns. Anyway, Vodka is also nice, just makes me talking bullshit, lol.

Originally posted by Arwon Canadian alcohol > American alcohol Our culture is certainly a lot more different when it comes to alcohol than the US. I shouldn't exactly say that Canadians beat the US in all forms of alcohol and I don't even like it that much. I hate beer, but I know as a well-known fact that Canadian beer is better than American beer. I have no idea why since the US is right next to Canada and we kind of adapt off of each other in some ways but oh well. I have no idea how Canadian stuff relates to France though. The only French thing about us is that we're bilingual, and we have Quebec... although not many people care about Quebec as they always complain and act like their own stupid country. Why? I don't know. |

Alcohol makes me tired. I haven't had any in awhile. The taste of some alcohol really doesn't appeal to me and sadly, I've tasted that alcohol that doesn't taste very good. I don't plan on getting really, really, drunk in the future or anything like that, so yeah.

Originally posted by Prier Haha, that reminds me when my offered me some on Christmas a few years back, I said no..because my older cousin that was like 20 something was throwing up must have been something he ate. Plus, too many people around that would probably tell that I drank it, but I didn't want to try that. A little bit too strong for me. |

But I stayed home instead. Just me and my pal Johnny Walker, And his brothers Black and Red. And we drank alone, yeah, with nobody else. We drank alone, yeah, with nobody else. Yeah, you know when I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself. |
