I made a bet with a friend the other day, about who would finish higher on the league table, Blackburn or Liverpool, I went with Blackburn. Whoever loses owes the other guy 2 beers. I think I told him something along the lines of "Liverpool will be lucky to pass Aston Villa in the league this year", I don't know, I was very drunk...

And before you say it, I know that common sense dictates that I just lost 2 beers. I know the ins and outs of the Premier League, and I know the difference between Liverpool and Blackburn. However, I believe one season bet each season is important... Last year it was 150kr (~$20) on Blackburn or Tottenham... Though not as ridiculous as Blackburn vs. Liverpool, it was still a gutsy bet. And even though I ended up having to pay, the difference between the two teams at the end of the season was only one spot.

I know this Colin, however, I enjoy making the hopeless bets. At least as long as it's over something as small as two beers.

And yup, Tromsø is, for the first time this season (I think) not in a spot that gives them direct relegation. Always good to know.

Oh, and speaking of Gamst, he scored for Norway today (did you hear that he's talked to the FA about changing his name, by the way? From this season on his shirt will have Gamst, not Pedersen, on the back). The match eventually ended 1-1, against Brazil (though a slightly less star-filled Brazil). However, the result means that Norway is still the only nation of the 70-something nations to have played a match against Brazil but never lost. This was our 4th time playing Brazil, and so far we stand with 2 victories and 2 ties. Now that is quite impressive, really.

Well, of course we can't afford any slip-ups. Unless we were in a group consisting only of Canada, Scotland, and Lithuania (because, let's face it, having relations to Canada, Scotland and Lithuania means you lose, no matter what ), we'd have to be on our toes.

I'm not saying we're through to the European Championships, I'm just saying we've been given a good group. I mean, look at the facts, we're in the only group where none of the teams competed in the World Cup. None of the teams are traditional powerhouses (Greece won the Euros but they'll not come close to anything like that in years to come, and Turkey got the bronze medal in 2002 without playing a single European country). So we got a lot of work ahead of us, but the group we're in means we have a realistic shot at going to the alps in 2 years.

The general attitude towards this movie by my friends seems to be "shut up, we're not interested. It's going to suck, why are you going? Just because it's hyped doesn't mean it's going to be good". And when I tell them that it doesn't matter whether it's good or not, it's one of those movies you have to see.

Anyway, it's not out in Norway before September 29. I'll just have to wait. This is one of those movies I want to see in a movie theater the first time I see it.

Edit: Been to Arizona lately, windwaker?

If I removed my beard, most people would probably not even recognize me. It's a full beard, moustache and all. Why? Because shaving is boring, having a beard is easy. Besides, it does provide some great warmth during the winter months.

I guess I belong to the kind of guys who feel attatched to their beard, and sort of identify themselves with it. I do feel a certain sense of sadness every time I meet a man with a bigger beard than me. It doesn't happen too often, though.

I own a book about the history of the beard, and there's a lot of fascinating things in there. Did you know that in newer times, democratically elected leaders in the west have almost exclusively been clean shaven, while dictators generally have a beard and/or moustache - it symbolizes them as "the great father of the nation"? Did you know that Adolf Hitler had a rather large moustache, but had to remove most of it to fit into a gas mask during World War One, and thus he got his signature moustache?

Oh, and no disrespect to mr. Burnside, but I feel that Henrik Ibsen has him beat.

Wait a sec... Wait a sec... You picked Stamatopoulos and not Hirschfeld? What is up with that? I mean, I probably should be supportive of our goalkeeper (and spiteful towards the one who left), but Hirschfeld is the better of the two. I felt a certain sense of security last season because I knew whatever happened, Hirschfeld would stop most things, while this season I've felt a sense of distrust, knowing that Stamatopoulos might mess up at any time...

Anyway, it doesn't really matter, since Bernier = instant win!

Oh, and Olivier Occean had an *ugly* elbow during Lillestrøm's 3-2 cup quarterfinal loss against Start. Ironically, Lillestrøm should have had two red cards (one for Occean and one for their reserve goalkeeper who tackled a guy who was through on goal outside of the box), but only got one faulty red card (for their main goal keeper who stopped a guy who was through on goal outside of the box, but was shown the card since the guy he stopped dived and the ref fell foro it).

Well, Stamatopoulos has just never managed to hold on to the number one spot at the club, I'm afraid, Colin. He started this season because Borch was injured. He played untill Borch was fit, and then Borch was given the starting goalie position. Borch then got injured again, meaning Stamatopoulos was again starting goalie. Then the news came that Borch was out for the rest of the season, meaning Tromsø only had one goalie, so they picked up Ramovic, and Ramovic was immediately made starting goalie. It's sad, really, since I like the Canadian players in our team, but Stamatopoulos just hasn't been convincing.

Liverpool, PSV, Bordeaux, and Galatasaray (*cough*who we knocked out of the UEFA Cup last year *cough*) is interesting, of course... My pick for coolest matchup is A, though, based simply on the Barcelona vs. Chelsea games. Here's to hoping they get a Scandinavian ref!

So, I'll just call up the airline companies and check out who can give me the best price on a trip to Vienna in 2008. Man, our performance yesterday was sick! Fair enough, it was only Hungary, but we outclassed them in a way I didn't think possible. Gamst's goal was one for the history books, as well.

Not even Hungary's devious plan of injuring our players through the use of commercial boards helped. Funny little situation that they'll hopefully get on YouTube. Rambekk is going to take a throw in, so he starts walking slowly backwards in order to get some running distance to the line. Then, after having walked a couple of steps back, he crashes over the commercial sign boards slowly but surely, they were clearly a lot closer than he thought. He looks a bit confused before he gets up, makes the throw in, gets the ball back, plays it into the box, and watches Gamst score his fantastic goal.

So, Col, I'm guessing you're pleased with your mother's side of the family and all today?

Well, I found the video here. Not the best quality, and they've dropped the part about Rambekk falling over the signs just before that happened, but you get the general gist of the goal.

To put it simple, everyone over here (in Norway) knows that Lars > Kenny. Hirschfeld is probably the best GK in the league (him or Arason, I'd say), Stamatopoulos has yet to show much positive. If the Canadian national team coaches can't see this, shame on them.

Norway's got Moldova tonight. Most fans around here are expeting 0-0, or 0-1 if Moldova can get a lucky counter-attack. Yeah, the Semb years have left Norwegian fans overly pessimistic.

So, Canada doesn't have to qualify for the Gold Cup, right? Canada, USA, and Mexico are all guaranteed in?

Pretty much all the music I listen to is foreign-language music. Then again, English is a foreign language to me.

Seriously, though, if I were to recommend some Norwegian-language artists, I guess I couldn't leave out the "Big 4": DumDum Boys, DeLillos, Raga Rockers, and Jokke & Valentinerne. Of these, Raga and DumDum are my favorites, Jokke & Valentinerne is the music-snob's favorites, and DeLillos are probably the biggest sellers.

Kaizers Orchestra has become quite big since their debut in 2001. I think they're the Norwegian-language band that has had the most sales internationally ever.

Now I can't go mentioning Norwegian-language music without mentioning Gatas Parlament. Of course, the charm of this rap-act is not so much the music, but the lyrics, so it probably wouldn't be too interesting to outsiders. The boys in Gatas Parlament grew up going to "communist camp", and their lyrics are basically incredibly left-wing, which makes for fun listening.

Hm, drinking, eh? I do enjoy my glass of beer once in a while. And my glass of whiskey. And my other glass of beer. And my shot of tequila. And I wouldn't say no to another glass of beer. And so on and so forth.

Well, yes, I drink a lot. I drink often. I guess it's not a good thing, but beer tastes so incredibly good. In my experience, being buzzed is the best way of high there is. Being sloshed is fun untill the next morning, when the stories people tell you make you realize you don't remember as much as you think you did from the day before. Now marijuana, that's a whole 'nother thing.

Now, mind you, I am definitely what you would call a casual marijuana smoker. Ironically, of course, I got stoned yesterday. however, I'm pretty sure that was actually the first time I smoked marijuana this year. Smoking marijuana is fun and all, but it's nowhere near as social as drinking alcohol. I'd definitely put the high from marijuana smoking over the high from being sloshed, though. In my experience - and I might of course be wrong here, since my experience with marijuana is limited - when you smoke marijuana you remember what you did much easier. It sort of feels like your mind is split in two, one clear-minded part, knowing what is going on but without the ability to affect anything, only observe, and one wasted part, which is totally and utterly in chaos, but which has the ability to control the body, and as such makes the person you are, and gives you the good time you have, while smoking marijuana.

To illustrate, I tried explaining this theory to my friend yesterday. It came out something along the lines of "you've got two brains, you know, and one of them is all "schdurrr", and the other is all "wheee!" - and the second one can't do nothing coz the first one is in controll" - and all the while as I was saying it, I knew it didn't make any sense, but I couldn't stop myself from saying it anyway.

Man, watching the prem yesterday was a surreal experience. The Merseyside derby, at one point I think Liverpool led the goal scoring attempts statistics 20-3, while Everton led the match 2-0. And then with Pepe Reina's fumbling at the end, Everton went up to win it 3-0.

Then you had Sheffield United vs Blackburn Rovers. 3 missed pens, 0-0, how often do you see that in a match? Heh, I recall one sports announcer saying "it's not often you see 3 missed pens in a 0-0 match", and I thought to my self "I'd be even more shocked if we saw 3 scored pens in a 0-0 match".

See, four or five years ago, I knew everyone, and was very active here. Now, I have like no clue what's going on around here.

Still, I guess I could go and wear a shirt that said "Capital Z, damnit!" - that way, those people who would understand and thus hopefully be interested in talking to me would be those people I'd be interested in talking to.

I'm unsure if you're trying to be ironic here or not, but I'll put in my thoughts anyway.

Compare the number of people who think it's completely ok to bomb muslim countries, treat muslims as second-class citizens, and such in the name of fighting terror today with the number of people who thought it was ok before the 9/11-attacks. I don't have any statistics, but I'm willing to bet a whole lot that the number has grown by a lot since 9/11. It's the impression I'm left with looking at discussions today vs. discussions 6 years ago. Besides, it's standard human psychology. "They attacked us, so by God we'll attack them!"

Now, with this in mind, is it not normal to assume that by bombing muslim countries, support for groupings that want to attack the west will grow in those countries? As such, we are giving the terrorists what they want, they've got a visible enemy (the west), they've got a simple solution (destroying the west), they've got loads of potential recruitees (people somehow affected negatively by western attacks). As such, we're making it a heck of a lot easier for terrorist organizations to recruit new members. So, yes, we're giving them what they want.

My dad really likes his show, I watch it now and then, it's quite entertaining (it's run in syndication here by the Norwegian National Broadcasting). They've been following the accident in the Norwegian media, and as far as I can understand from what they're saying, he's expected to survive and be alright again?

If you cannot discuss anything because you may never know anything with 100% certainty then you may never open your mouth to say anything. To aquiesce your leaders because you don't know as many facts as they do is dangerous, "the world needs critical voices" and all that.
B'sides, I don't think anyone actually expects any of these discussions to change the way the WoT is being conducted, doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss it, though.

Bill Clinton is appearing on FOX News tomorrow, by the way. Slamming the Bush Administration for not trying to stop bin Laden or any terrorist organizations ahead of the September 11 attacks. In the interview, he says (regarding capturing Osama bin Laden and stopping terrorist attacks) "at least I tried, that's the difference between me and some, including all of the right-wingers who are attacking me now. They ridiculed me for trying, they had 8 months to try, they did not try, I tried. So I tried and failed." The 8 months he's talking about is the time between Bush's inaguration and the September 11 attacks.

I study at a university. This gives me 80 000 NOK (~12000 USD) in government loan/scholarship per year (it's a loan that all Norwegian citizens get (if they want) to study. If you're a good student and produce your 30 study points per semester (this year I'm taking a course on Democracy, a course on the European Union, and a course on Planning and Politics in society, all worth 10 study points each) parts of your loan will be converted into a scholarship).

Of this money (80 000 NOK per year = 6 666 NOK per month), I spend 2 800 NOK on my appartment, and the rest is pretty much equally divided among various gaming resources (be it electronic, board, or pen and paper), alcohol and tobacco, and food.

Solskjær is one of the very few Norwegian players who have been able to be consistently good at both club level and national team level over the years. Berg was another one. Ironically, seems like every time a goal keeper starts playing good for Norway, he is put at the subs bench of whatever English club he is at at that time.

So, the English corruption scandal is still rolling along, with Sir John Stevens having said they are investingating 8 clubs suspected of being involved in "fishy" transfers. Any guesses as to which 8 clubs he might be looking at?

Oh, and by the way, it's good night, good bye, and it's been fun for Tromsø. I've given up all hope. The performance against Viking was abysmal, and relegation is now pretty much a given. Which again means that Bernier will leave for some other club, along with him Ademolu, Kibebe, and pretty much every "foreign mercenary" (which we have a lot of). I mean, expecting them to stay at the club after a relegation would be silly. I doubt Tromsø will be able to return in the first couple of years, but hopefully this will mean the club can actually build something up from the ground again, the last few years have been way unstable.
Of course, though I am bitter over the way they are playing lately, it is perfectly understandable. In the match against Viking on sunday, Tromsø's subs bench had only Stamtopoulos (the reserve goalie) + 3 outfield players (of which one was a youngster who has never before played in the senior squad). The team has been plagued with injuries and sickness lately, even going so far as Hafstad contracting meningitis.
