it's even worse when you don't have direct access to the computer and turn it on again. I remember during my internship that I shut down a computer at a co-lo... my supervisor wasn't too happy about that...

So, i tried editing my post in a closed thread. There was no edit link so I couldn't. However, when I went to edit it via the "show posts" options for one's profile, I could...

so, did I uncover something?

you can always send more wattage into a computer than it really needs. So, it shouldn't pose a problem. However, if the computer needs more wattage than the power supply can support, then bad things may happen.

My car's CD player displays CD-Text of the audio CD's I make. So, I'm sure I've been enabling them. So, what player do you use, FreeDOS?

different drives like different brands of -R media (same goes for +R/ +RW/ -RW media). A firmware update may enable you to use this media. If it doesn't, you are out of luck.

To get middle button support, you may just need to press both the left and right buttons at the same time. That is what my Dell does for middle button.

Well, if you had a Mac before the Intel Invasion, then it could work since the Wii is going to use a PowerPC based CPU. So, with some patching, it could work on a Mac. Although, I'm sure the the multimedia routines probably wouldn't work though...

@AlexAR, I believe the discussion is focusing using Nintendo's Emulator for N64 to play N64 games.

HH, I hope you got extended warranty with this laptop. It is a must. My laptop kicked the bucket in less than 18 months of usage. Because I had no warranty, I created a 15 lbs paperweight . Given how you mod computers and all that fun stuff, you are a person I strong recommend having extended warranty. Hopefully, extended warranty comes with accidental drop and spill coverage too.

KsCD usually, though I use cdparanoia if I feel like storing a CD on hard disk. Both of them support CD-text. I've used some program 'playcd' before (came with the OS, forgot which one), XMMS, and BeepMP... they all supported CD-text.
I'm making the gradual shift to Linux (I'm starting to use Ubuntu in VMWare at the moment). It is a long shot but I could try to compile them with Cygwin...but I don't think it is worth it :-P

It was probably capable of burning at 8x but the firmware was dummied down. The other scenario was it was capable of burning 8x but the firmware code was still buggy so, they left it at 4x until 8x could work reliably.

make sure the motherboard is by itself, no perhipherals (i.e. cards, RAM, CD-ROMS, HDs, etc) connected to the motherboard. Then connect the power supply and then turn on the computer and see what happens. If you fry the board, well, you've only lost the board (and probably not the CPU).
