Grey: "Air sailor, huh... Sheesh."

Grey peered out of the window of the zepplin's aft side, and stared at the quickly shrinking ground below them all. He hated flying...

"I don't trust zepplins, you know."

He pushed his glasses up his nose and addressed the group, preparing for a monologue.

"Zepplins are interesting things. They, as I'm sure you know, use hydrogen gas to form a giant lighter-than-air balloon that lifts us up and away. But have you ever thought about the dangers associated with it? Flying around in a giant hydrogen bomb would normally put people off, and make them think of such terrible things as the Hindenberg or whathaveyou. But zepplins aren't all powered by hydrogen. Hydrogen only increases the lift capacity of a zepplin by about 10%, so a good bit of them are powered by helium. That's not nearly as reactive as hydrogen, so a zepplin is actually one of the safest (if slowest) ways to travel aerially.

That reminds me... The don of the pianta mafia is in charge of ticket distribution for flights on these things, right? I recall there being some speculation a while ago as to whether or not they used the zepplins for the trafficking of illegal goods, but all claims were more or less unfounded... I mean, a zepplin is so slow that it could be caught by air police any time. I guess, for a legitimate business front, this one is actually pretty clean.

It's strange, though. The piantas never used to use zepplins for travel. Most transportation to Delfino Island was caused by jets and other, faster aircraft. It's doubtful, considering the sheer size of one of these airships, that a landing on the Delfino International Airport would be plausible in a zepp. In any case, zepplins are a pretty comfortable, if slow, way to travel. You meet some interesting people on them, too..."

He leaned back against his window, and toyed with the idea of heading to his cabin until the end of the flight.

*facepalm* it's four votes for Lizardking and 2 for SNN... Which means four people aren't doing their damn job.

Grey smacks the narrator in the face, a quick five across the eyes.

Grey: "Go ahead. I dare you to screw up again."

He slows his fall onto the cement, and places his hand to his forehead in an attempt to cover up the searing bright lights that shone before him.

"Eesh, they weren't lying when they called it Glitzville. A little too heavy on the neon, eh?"

The signs that adorned each and every building were almost unbearable to look at. It was a wonder they got any business at all.

Conveniently enough, there was a widely-grinning sunglasses vendor just outside of the area where the ship had made its dropoff...

Well, still can't connect with Cheveyo. Or Kyouji, for that matter. I can connect with Shyguy all right, though. I know that I'm at least capable of doing it. What gets me, really, is why not with everyone... Any tips on problem solving?

Shy having the last post in a thread makes him look like a mod to new people.

Shy is not a mod.

Someone ninjamodded.

Someone should not be ninjamodding.

This thread fails.

I met a Nintendo representative today!

At my job, we're phasing in the DS Lite, and the Ninty rep was in to promote it, drop off the advertising stuff, lanyards, pins, cardboard standups, and he had a DS Lite on him (alongside changing around our DS display to have a Lite) that I got to get my hands on.

Now... I'm not particularly a fan of the size. I liked my DS a lot, it's the perfect size for my hands. It's got a lot of structural integrity, though. The DS Lite's microphone is in the middle now, on the crossbar between the two, and they upped its sensitivity greatly. It actually works now, that is. The stylus is much bigger now, with a finer tip, so as to be a lot easier to use. I found this to be a big boon, and it feels more like a real pencil than the original did. The backlight's brighter, and believe it or not, the graphics are actually juuuuuuuuuust a little better than the original DS. Crisper, you know? Games look the same, but the image is just a little sharper. It's like the switch between the Game Boy and the Game Boy Pocket back in the 90s. But it's still an improvement. Headphone jack's in the right place, volume control is much more sensitive now, and the Game Boy Advance slot has a dummy cover so that junk doesn't get stuck inside of it. The power button's not above the D-pad now too, which is also a good thing, since the size of it (while previously I didn't have the problem that so many people who seem to be unable to use their DSes properly had) means that if the power button were in its original place, I'd probably be hitting it all the time.

My problem? It's so.... small. I really can't get my hands in just that right place in order to use it. I feel like I'll have the same problem I had with my GBP, my hands will eventually cramp up. I like the original DS design because it fits my hands perfectly. The Lite? It'll be the ideal choice for newbies to the DS scene (it's the same price as the DS original), but I won't upgrade...

Ergh, this is why I say that real men use 1.42. Damnatorium.

I agree with Ailure's idea; Regardless of who wins this (since it's gone back and forth at least four times now), the other side is going to be disappointed if there's only one tournament. Two tournaments would allow everyone to choose, and considering at least 32 people have voted for each game, the brackets could allow a four-round tournament, possibly five if the people who voted have the time or the resources to play.

Maybe we could have it as a rule that you're allowed to participate in both tournaments, on that note. However, you'd have to have a delayed registration time in your secondary tournament, to allow people who aren't yet in a tournament to play.

It's cool, Dani -- The DS Lite is retailing (at least at my TRU, anyway...) for about the same price as the DS. It's not a price leap at all, actually...

Grey: "I dunno, I remember this one time when I was vacationing in this town, Euro... I waited in line for like three hours to see what everyone was waiting in line for, and all I got out of it was this stupid bottle..."

He pulls a shiny red vial from his vest, and stares at it thoughtfully.

"But man, that blonde kid behind me seemed pretty pissed off about me getting the last one before him. Ah, well. I'll end up drinking it someday, probably."

Well, yeah. I am in the mafia.

Big deal. I had you all fooled until now, and I even managed to pick off Kyouji before he did any damage.

Well, I got what I wanted out of this game. If I'm gonna go down, I'm gonna bring one of my compatriots with me. That way, it'll be a bit harder for you all to figure out who the third man is... Believe me if you want. In any case, now that I've revealed myself, you've all got a choice to make.

There are two things that could be going on right now: Either I am in the mafia, or I'm not. If I'm in the mafia, this could all be part of some master plan of mine. I might be doing this to protect everyone else in the game, and my death could be the ultimate catalyst for my defeat, hinging on the thought of whether or not I'm telling the truth against myself, or lying to myself in order to be safe. This might be a different plan: I could be a thug, or the doctor, and I might be doing this simply to save myself. After all, if you're not sure of whether or not I'm in the mafia, wouldn't you pursue a more likely target, like any of the other players in the game? You've automatically got a flat-rate 50-50 shot at me being in the mafia, with so few players remaining. I might just be doing this to mess with the game.

I might be in the mafia, again... But what if I have a plan that involves doing this, revealing myself and dying intentionally? Wouldn't the mafia win, then? After all, if I die, you've all played into my hands perfectly... Every mafia, after all, has to have a don.

But keep this in mind: Grey doesn't die alone. I'm ratting out SNN as a fellow mafioso, just to throw a bit more caution into the wind. SNN, I think you'll understand what I'm doing here.

Grey: "Agreed... The last thing I wanna do is have to fight my way through round after agonizing round of poorly-dressed supermen in an effort to get what only MIGHT be the stone we're looking for. That, and I bruise easily."

He stared into a back alleyway that led into the arena's side doors. There was a bit of a harumph in his voice, as he turned to Kirby and scratched the back of his head.

"Er, but why exactly do I have to hide in a trashcan? This doesn't sound like much of a plan so far. Any other details?"

Posted on 06-12-06 02:12 AM, in -1UP: The Sprite Comic. Link
You know, I have to admit, that this is in the very least a lot more inventive and amusing than some other sprite comics that have been shown in here. The blending of differing styles is good, but your grammar and sentence structure could use some work.

You have some good ideas for gags. Deja Vu, for example, was well-placed. It's clear that you have a grasp on where you're going with the comic.

Your weakness, however, lies in your organization. It's extremely difficult at nearly all times to tell who is speaking, what they're trying to say, and when they say it. While I understand that character color pallettes match the color of their font, this is not readily apparent. Additionally, I don't think a character like Mario would say something like "You have got to be fucking kidding me". It seems more like he's speaking as your personal puppet than as the Mario character. This may be why a Mario-based spite comic really doesn't work out, as Mario himself has little character other than what the writer's perspective portrays him as. As such, there is no universal Mario to write a piece of fiction about.

I would suggest spacing out your comics more. Don't be afraid to have one or two exchanges between characters in each panel, and then save the rest of the exchange for another panel. If anything, it will allow you to convey more emotion between characters, and give you more fodder for your comics. You have a solid idea here: It's got potential. Maybe someday, you could progress to a hand or mouse-drawn format, as opposed to sprites, which get a good bit of flak from a lot of the critics on this board.
