An iron-clad figure approached the cafeteria from the courtyard, floating gently a few inches above the concrete. From the distant diner, he... or it, was nothing more than a glimmer of sunlight that bounced off of the shiny armor, lit up with electric blue stripes. The figure stopped to indifferently glance at a human-shaped crater in the ground just outside of the restaurant.

"...Pathetic."

Having offered these two cents, the figure turned its emotionless gaze away and toward the cafeteria, which it promptly floated to once more. Yet, as it reached the doors... it just vanished. Whaddya know.

'Finally...'

With a twirl of his coat, Jack successfully spun out of the way of the first electric orb, but the second hit him square in the chest. Stunned from the shock, he was immediately hit by the third, fourth... and sinking into the ground as a shadow in a desperate attempt to evade the volley, Jack swerved out of the way of the fifth one but was still nicked in the shoulder. Sparks flew, and he was blasted back into physical shape.

Jack stumbled up from the ground and rather unsuccessfully tried to smooth his hair real quick, which was standing on its end in every direction. The numerous bits of silver that he wore crackled with the last tinge of electricity. For a moment, Jack reckoned that his dead heart even starting beating again.

Jack: "Alright, so the insect's got a sting," he coughed. "I'll still hurt me more than you do."

Jack pulled up his sleeve with a slightly quivering hand, and held his dagger to his arm. Then, in a quick, practiced motion, he drew it against his skin, causing inky black blood to seep out and dribble to the ground. The land might have made the slightest rumble when this happened...

Jack looked up from his work with just a small expression of pain and readjusted his sleeve.

Jack: "So, these magical Psi Warriors. If an undead were to meet his demise to one of them, what would happen? You think his soul would just return to the Netherworld, or would he maybe be completely erased?"

Although he was really just waiting for his spell to kick in, he was genuinely interested. He even secretly hoped that Psi Warriors could erase an undead soul... and was saddened that he considered that.

Jared kicks ass XD
---

Jack, from his position on the ground, glanced over toward Jared. He was doing excellent. Even putting Jack to shame, really. Jack looked back upward, where the ogre was looming and ominously raising its axe, aiming for a clean blow to the neck. That familiar wicked look found itself on Jack's face once more as he raised him palm toward the ogre's head.

Jack: "What does a rhino-beast fear, I wonder?"

The ogre brought the axe down just as a white mist was shot from Jack's palm. With a sniff, the brute recoiled, and dropped the axe off to the side - it would have severed Jack's legs if he hadn't rolled back to his feet. The ogre, now utterly confused from the chemical, staggered around and stared at its surroundings with scared, wide eyes, and let out a terrified roar.

Jack: "Hah-HAH! Cry, you disgusting thing! Rar!"

Jack waved his arms around, badly imitating some kind of monster, and the ogre withdrew, stepping closer to the edge of the ring. Jack leapt at it and made a flurry of lightning-quick slashes with his dagger, tearing shreds to the ogre's rotted skin, and the thing was knocked back through the green portal. Jack brushed some bits of skin off of his coat and turned around.

He remembered the bats as one of them dived into his face and knocked him back. Turning around sharply, he tossed his dagger, which homed in on the demon as it flew around and stuck it in the back. The bat dropped into the channel and lived no more.

The second bat flew in at Jack right afterward, but Jack caught its wings in each hand just before it latched onto his face. The monster bit and snapped wildly, trying to close its enormous fangs on the head just inches out of its reach, and Jack recoiled in disgust. But the bat slowed to a stop, and let out a terrified squeal before it suddenly died... Jack dropped it to the stone floor, having just sucked the life out of it with a vampiric touch.

That finished, Jack looked around at Jared, who had finished off his fiends, and Atrats, who was floating above an inky pile on the floor that he assumed were the bats. Now if he could just close the portal…

Jack ran to the edge of the ring and prepared to dispel it, but he was interrupted by an enormous twenty-foot flesh tentacle that shot out and slammed the ground just feet from him. Close one there…

Jack: “N – no… it can’t be!”

The tentacle scrunched up as it pulled a tremendous weight from the other side of the portal. A second shot out on the other side of Jack, laboring to move whatever body it belonged to. Jack staggered backward toward the center of the ring, making way for the largest demon yet…

It appeared to be a giant brain, perhaps as large as a house, oozing with slime and with four tentacles total. The tentacles smashed around the room blindly as the brain jiggled…

Jack: “We’ve just gained the unpleasant company of an Insane. Close your mind, if you can, so it doesn’t drive you to madness. And watch out for the tentacles, of course.”

There was a flash of blue mist in Jack's hand, from which his dagger materialized. With this he made another cut on his right arm.

Jack: “We’ll need a little help for this…”

---
You can have control of the Insane to some extent, just don’t kill it off yet. It’s got some nifty tricks to show off, first.

Souls were impossible to destroy? Jack was let down by the answer. So much for escaping damnation when he died again...

Jack: "Good thing you saved those Chakras. I'm still not sure what they do, but you might need 'em now."

In response to Jack's blood sacrifice, incredible thick, black briars suddenly shot up from the ground and grew in a dense ring around him. As this happened, he pulled his hands apart and a familiar green orb started to grow from between them. He was summoning a portal again!

Jack: "I'm sorry, but I just have to do this. I'm at the end of my rope and I'm rather desperate. Maybe you can stop this again, but I'd suggest you just run. Maybe it wouldn't affect you if you got far enough..."

The portal was growing rapidly, and would be complete in perhaps half a minute. Getting close enough to dispel it this time would be harder with those near impenetrable brambles in the way...

'Been itching to have a match with you for a while, Forte. En guarde!
---

Another disembodied voice echoed through the area. It sounded like a boy, maybe in his mid teens...

"No... you can't do it... I'll stop you - !"

Then it was suddenly interrupted by a loud, electronic-sounding wave. Immediately afterward, the atmosphere of underground became darker yet, and there was a quick flash of blinding blue light. A wire frame grid blinked onto the ground from the center of the chamber and rapidly expanded outward while fading away. Then, with another flash, a figure appeared in the center of the raucous, and the underground returned to normal.

It had blue, spiky hair pointing out from underneath a heavy metallic helmet, which hid the eyes with a rectangular visor. Only the bottom half of this person's smooth, gray face was visible, but he appeared to be male. Matching the helmet was gray-blue armor that looked sort of plastic-like. The armor and helmet had glowing blue lines that ran randomly around it, horizontally and vertically. The gloves and boots were lit up and faded through different shades of blue while marquing a strange language.

The warrior held his right arm out to the side, and with a flash, a futuristic rod expanded outward from his palm in both directions. He then started hovering a few inches above the ground, and stared blankly forward.

Pie >> " Of course, the banal question, what does one do with power when they believe to possess an extraordinarily large amount of it? You have arrived to the conclusion that most do, and that is to seek a challenger. I am your challenger, and I ask to witness the fullest extent of your alleged power. "

Straightforward fellow. Though it mattered little, his voice was the same as the disembodied one that spoke a moment prior, only it sounded as if it were spoken through a computer speaker and lacked any emotional tone at all.

There was a brilliant explosion just as Delano leapt that easily blinded the both of them for the moment. But as it cleared, Pie and Delano were completely unharmed... at least by the explosion - Pie was pinned to the ground by Delano. However, the forest around them had been reduced to a wasteland... all of the trees and shrubs within a mile had been reduced to invisible particles that were now floating in the air. Pie's bomb had eliminated all of the nearby plant life, and any future hiding place for Delano as well.

Pie looked up at Delano blankly for a moment, but then with a blue flash he became his own cyber-wolf like before! In this form, Pie scrambled out of Delano's grasp and faced him at a distance, bearing his wire frame teeth and making a growl that sounded as though it came through a computer speaker. Another moment, and Pie lunged at Delano, snapping his jaws that would deal cybernetic damage as well as physical.

The paranoid mortal within Pie cringed at Forte’s terrible stare, but outwardly he appeared unperturbed.

Pie >> "I am no mortal, as I am not even a living being. This boy, however, is my host - my stylus into this world, and my limitation. You do not need to know more, other than to avoid miscalculating my own power."

Pie's visor flashed and he bent forward a little, making a gesture with his hand.

Pie >> "Do make the first move."

Jack cringed at Diaxos' question, and slowly turned a twitching eye on him.

Jack: "Troubling me? Oh, so much is troubling me."

The briars surrounding the two retracted into the ground. Jack made a step backward, and in a puff of smoke a black hooded robe appeared over him, and a wispy scythe materialized in his hand. The bottom of the robe created a constant flow of the thick smoke that floated upward, giving an eerie look to the outfit.

Jack: "I am Death. Rather, I used to be. When my mortal life ended I was forced without any say of my own into the position of a Grim Reaper, just one of many owned by the Council of the Dead. The Council is responsible for managing all of the souls of the dead... a very just group, supposedly, but I never agreed with their decisions - particularly this one.

The area seemed to darken gradually as Jack told his tale. The smoke created by his robe became thicker and more volatile with Jack's rising anger.

"I served for a time, but became... frustrated... when the soul of someone very dear to me disappeared without a trace at all, and I'm afraid that she may be in Suffering if she isn't wandering the earth as a ghost... either is a terrible, terrible fate. Stricken with these worries, I became reckless in my employment, and I made a few big mistakes. The Council saw that I was unfit in life or death, and sought to condemn me, but I got wind of their motives and escaped to this living realm before they could catch me!"

Jack, with robes bursting with intense fire, appeared to be the only visible image over the now completely pitch black graveyard.

"So here I am, a rogue Reaper, escaped from the clutches of Hell and hopelessly mad.

Still like me now?!" he roared, enveloped in the flames.

Letting out a sigh, he let his head fall and he sagged tiredly. The robe, scythe and flames faded away, returning the graveyard to its normal pale light.

"I ...I'm sorry. This has nothing to do with you at all. These are my problems, not yours. You shouldn't be here with me, I'm a hazard; and what's more, in the eyes of eternal judgment I'm evil, a fiend worthy of damnation. *sigh* I'd let the Council take me, but I just need to know if she's alright..."

Jack glanced upward once more.

"I don't want to be a trouble to you, Diaxos. You seem like a good person. That's why you should leave, now..."

And he leaned against a tombstone with arms crossed, lost in his thoughts.

Pie held his hand forward, and a sort of blue grid appeared like a shield before him. As the shots hit the floating square, they disappeared and reappeared in an identical grid behind him, flying harmlessly into the distance beyond him. Though this technique allowed him to avoid damage where it would have otherwise been nearly impossible, it drained him a tad, and just as the battle began, too.

Dropping the shield, Pie returned fire with a powerful beam of cybernetic energy. The blue stream rushed at Forte from the tip of his rod, and seemed to tear apart the very air it sped through. It would have a stronger effect on mechanoids, cyborgs or programs, but Pie wasn't sure exactly what Forte was yet.

Pie twirled his rod, and braced himself for the impact - a powerful defensive technique was out for now. Floating higher in the air, he waited until the right moment to hit one of the rings with his rod, sending it rocketing harmlessly into the ground below. He then whirled out of the way of the second ring, but to his misfortune it homed in to strike him. Pie fell to the ground, and just caught his balance in the air before he smacked into it.

Pie >> "Interesting. Technology techs combined with dark powers."
Scanning... ... ...

Pie, holding his rod defensively, activated a scan on Forte to search for his weaknesses and any other useful information he could use for the battle.

---
(So you could just 'give' Pie some information about Forte, unless Forte can override the scan technique =o )

Pie flew out of the way of the fist with extraordinary speed, appearing to be just a rapid blur of pixels as he whirred through the air. He continued speeding along to Forte's left side, where he halted in the air and gave his rod another quick twirl.

The rod surged with blue light, and from its tip launched a strange geometric shape - a dodecahedron that appeared to be made out of a semi-transparent blue glass material, but much stronger. The shape crashed into the ground in front of Forte and exploded with cyber energy, also firing dangerous shrapnel in every direction for a long distance. They even reached Pie from his far-off point, but the shards faded away just before hitting his armor, leaving
him at least unharmed. Not even waiting to see how Forte faired, Pie prepared another polybomb...

Pie shot a tetrahedron from his rod as Forte performed the Grega Breath technique, but the shape was deleted in midair as it came in contact with the fire! Busy with charging his attack at first, Pie allowed himself little time to react and was hit with the powerful blast. Yet halfway through, he was able to use his cyber rod to create a small force field that blocked most of his body from the rest of the beam. Pie shifted out of the way of a few rocks that fell to the ground after the attack.

Pie >> "Impressive technique. However, it can be improved."
Copying Data ... ... ...

Pie pulled his arm up in a similar fashion to Forte, and, just as it had for the Black Shadow, a copy of the head formed around Pie's arm! The only noticeable difference with Pie's Grega was that it was black with blue wire frame marks on it, and the flames that it shot blinked strangely with a type of static pattern, like the snow on a television set. The attack would deal less damage than the original; it hadn't been charged for added power, although Pie's version could still be used on the spot.

Delano's jaws connected, but in a flash Pie escaped from the grip and whirred to Delano's other side. It was apparent that he still had his normal physical abilities. Now behind Delano, Pie charged cyber energy in his teeth for a moment, and then bolted forward in a rapid succession of impossibly fast snaps and bites...

Suddenly, black smoke seeped from the ground and rapidly closed a second circle around Jared, Atrats, and Jack. The smoke continued flowing in its place after the ring was completed, forming little skull shapes with the wisps that faded into the air.

Jack: "Stay in this ring if you can, Jared! Your fighting ability will be increased while you're inside."

Jack already felt much stronger, and was sure Jared felt the same.

The brain inched closer, now planning to cover the ring with its bulk and force the fighters out. Fully realizing the terror of the Insane, Atrats broke down and sobbed hysterically on Jack's shoulder, spilling disgusting ink everywhere.

Atrats: "It's hopeless! We're finished! We're gonna diiieeee!!! Jack, I don't want to die! It sounds smelly! Uh boo hoo hoo!"

Jack shoved him away, and he spiraled into Jared. The impact knocked Atrats' light frame to the ground, where he sobbed into his own puddle of inky tears.

Jack: "His simple mind was spoiled so soon! Pah, could've guessed."

Jack leapt over Atrats and to the base of one of the tentacles. As it smashed down, Jack slid underneath it to its other side and then sharply changed course with another quick jump back when it hit the ground. As he flew through the air, making an arc over the tentacle, he made a series of lightning-quick slashes along its surface. The Insane reacted by sliding its tentacle across the floor and straight at Jack, but he dashed forward without a trace of fear and, holding his blue-glowing dagger in front of him, burst a hole right through the tentacle and emerged on the other side. Jack landed on his feet unharmed, but covered with cerebral slime. Jack glanced at his hand mischievously, which was lacking the dagger - he had left it in the hole in the tentacle! The Insane moved its appendage in pain as thousands of spiders emerged from the hilt of the blade, just as bats had earlier, and in a few seconds ate the damaged tentacle right off of the body. Jack held out his arm and his knife flew back into his hand, leaving the spiders to wander off into the sewer.

Well, one tentacle severed and another injured. Jack had dealt with Insanes before in the Netherworld, although he had always had his trusty scythe handy and a non-corporeal form, which made it easier. They were doing okay for the time, but he knew that these monsters only became worse as time passed...

The brain pulsated faster and faster, and still tried to smite the fighters with its tentacles. Though Jack had done his best to close his mind, he was beginning to feel himself slipping into Insanity...

Pie remained still as his visor flashed, and a transparent rectangle expanded out of the air in front of him, and when the beam hit the rectangle, it was reflected back toward Forte. However, it caused an explosion that enveloped Pie, and he had to fly backward to avoid burning up.

This battle was becoming too straightforward - a simple shootout, which would surely result in Forte's victory if it continued. To throw Forte off balance, Pie tried a different technique.

The wire frame grid that appeared on the floor when Pie first arrived lit up again, suggesting that it had been there the whole time. Then, the square that Forte was standing on glowed a bright color. If he didn't move quickly, a beam of energy would shoot upward and hit him! This would continue happening, as well, with every move he made - whatever square he stood or floated above would light up and fire another beam, forcing him to keep moving.

Meanwhile, Pie charged a clearish sphere in his hand.

Sorry for the delay. Extensive testing at school kept me busy
---
Pie twirled his rod and fired a rapid spurt of cyber - charged blasts that spread out across the field, and would make small electric explosions when they hit something solid. While he did this, the grid below Forte flashed again, ready to fire another energy beam at him from below if he didn't move.

Pie himself dashed forward after he made his attack, just dodging a bright laser that shot from the ground below
him... looks like Forte isn't the only one the grid's attacking.

Jack was sitting at the base of a tombstone when Diaxos found him again, buried in its shadow and pensively carving his dagger into the clay soil. Diaxos' warning hardly drew a reaction out of him; Jack just wearily looked up into the sky and regarded the white light uninterestedly.

Jack: "Let the Psi Warrior come. Let it obliterate me.
I don't care."

And he withdrew further into the shadow of the headstone, tired green eyes dimly shining out of the darkness. But some angry thought seemed to cross him as he lay there, and he sat right up again.

Jack: "Here that, Psi Warrior? Come on and purge me! I'm calling you right now! Fuck."

He held his hand into the air, and a burning red rune appeared on his skin. The character pulsed evil throughout the cemetery, and would surely not go unnoticed by the flying warrior...

Pie was not fully used to his wolf form, and had charged forward too soon without keeping fully alert. The more experienced Delano landed on top of Pie as he went charging past his target. Yet once more, Pie slipped from Delano's grasp after taking considerable damage, and he retreated to a point several yards away to face Delano again. Pie wasn't fairing too well in his wolf form - he seemed to be completely busted open on his shoulder and left hind leg, and both wounds were rapidly spitting blue sparks over the ground. Pie's wolfish eyes were even becoming fuzzy like the snow on a television set. Delano would surely defeat Pie in a conflict like this. He needed a new approach.

The cyber wolf leaned forward and pointed its head in the air, and then let out a loud howl! This was no ordinary howl, however - it was an earsplitting noise that would give Delano a major headache and even knock him out of he didn't interrupt Pie before he finished!

Pie continued flying forward to close the distance to Forte, with the squares on the floor lighting up and firing beams just inches behind him. In an attempt to dodge the first ring, he made to dart sideways, but he slowed down too soon and was hit by the upward - traveling blast. The hit caused him to lose his balance and fall to the ground in a heap. On the fluorescent floor, he was hit by three of the fiery rings in a row and then struck again by the grid's laser. The second blast sent him soaring into the air, and though this allowed him to avoid the other two rings, he might have taken more damage from the grid.

After the horrible blunder, Pie found himself hovering almost directly above Forte, elevated fifteen feet higher or so. In a millisecond, he calculated his move and darted down, whirling his rod in front of him so fast that it appeared to jump around his hand rather than spin. If Forte were caught in the attack, he'd probably be stuck in the combo until it ended. The attack also had the effect of disrupting computer programs, and though this special effect might work on Forte it could perhaps be reversed to Pie...
