In my experience, it helps if you got up at a normal "early" time (sometime in the morning that seems normal to you) at the start of the no-sleep-a-thon, and it REALLY helps if you have something to do, especially something social. The first time I stayed up all night was when I was having fun playing pool until the wee hours of the morn, and I realized there wasn't any point into going to bed then.

Also, people have varying sleep requirements, so maybe you're just not predisposed to fucked-up sleep schedules. I wouldn't worry about training for it, though.

Mr. Roboto pwns j00.

While visiting family in Pittsburgh, I came across a new radio station called Bob FM. It played a very random mix ranging from oldies to classic rock to '80s and newer pop, but it was all songs that sounded good next to each other, so it worked. Quite well. And one of the songs they played that weekend was Mr. Roboto. I had to squee because I'd never heard that played on FM radio before.

Wow.

I'm in the mood to prattle because I'm staying up ZOMG SUPAR XTREME late for fun, and then this comes along. It's as if the board tiki gods are giving me a sign.

That banner is indeed hypnotizing. I just hope it doesn't hypnotize me into taking a nosedive on this laptop. It looks like the Mario Party game will be going for a while, though, so I'll be pretty well distracted...

And I thought the occasional 12-hour no break shift at Taco Bell was bad. That sounds like the worst work shift ever.

85 hours playing video games? Wow. I don't think I could ever manage that. I'm also boggled by the 264-hour world record for sleeplessness set by Randy Gardner some years ago. And while I was Googling that, I found an interesting article on sleep deprivation.

35.5 hours now. yay

I'm good at the basics, but I generally don't like to cook. I've been trying to figure out why - I had to help people cook recently and it was a "neutral to pleasant" task - and I think that when you're used to food that requires near-zero time and attention to prepare, any effort put forth towards making food and cleaning up afterward feels annoying even if it isn't really much at all. There are a few things that I do enjoy making (like cottage cheese pancakes), and it would be a good idea for me to expand my horizons and get used to putting in time in the kitchen on a regular basis. Variety is good and it would save some money as well. (The healthy convenience meals I buy are rather pricey.)

Ah, so that's what ate my attempt to post just a little while ago. At least I was able to hit Back and copy the contents and post after all.

The Clue movie was actually quite entertaining. I saw it a few years ago.

And I did go to bed around midnight. I have snuffles and a sore throat, so I didn't think it would be a good idea to try to push the limits of my ability to stay awake. Oh well.

Pause makes the most sense to me because it's practical (and potentially lifesaving). I would like being able to rewatch funny shit that happened in the past, but not being able to change mistakes would frustrate me.

GAH! I'm still sick! The sore throat is almost gone, but now I'm snuffly and I'm starting to get a cough. Blargh. *old man voice* Where're my pills...

Armchair psychology is fun.

It sounds like you associate the brand with negativity. Maybe you're sick of the ads, or maybe annoying people have been parading their iPods around like they're the ZOMG BEST THING EVAR, or maybe you perceive iPods as being overpriced and pointless because there are other cheaper devices that have all the features you need (or you want to listen to music in formats that iPods don't support).

Something like this, or would you prefer digital?

In any case, it looks like the hex clock is not yet available for sale, but it may be offered in 2006. We can only hope.

Karadur - Sorry, I didn't see your post until just now. At any rate, when I was working at Taco Bell during the school year, I worked one 6-8 hour weekend shift. For a while, this was from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturdays. During the summer, I had a 40-hour week on a regular basis, which was generally five 8-hour days each week. I didn't open very often. I usually worked during the middle of the day or from afternoon to closing. However, after I turned eighteen (and was therefore allowed to work LONG shifts), I did occasionally get stuck with a 12-hour shift either by quirk of scheduling or if someone called off and they needed people to work extra long to cover for them.

Just so you know...it's impossible to lose 10 pounds of bodyfat in such a short timeframe without surgery or very dangerous drugs. You can lose 10 pounds on the scale, and that may include a small amount of bodyfat, but the vast majority of it will be water weight, which will come right back when you return to normal eating habits.

Instead, might I suggest adopting a diet and exercise plan that will allow you to lose 10 pounds in 2 months? You can lose 1-2 pounds of bodyfat a week (and keep it off) on such a plan.

drjayphd - Yay gym and stuff! As far as dietary adjustments go, I recommend keeping them simple to start with. There's no need to get too worried about the details unless you stop getting results. Ultimately, you want to expend more calories than you take in, and it's easiest to do this by basing your diet on nutritious and filling foods: protein sources (lean meat, fish, eggs, tofu), fruit, veggies, and whole grains. Limit sugary stuff (candy, non-diet pop, fruit juice, etc.) and refined flour. If you improve your diet and stick with it for a month or two and don't see results, count calories to be sure you're getting the proper amount (less than you expend but enough to keep you energetic).

Out here, we watched...the He-Man Christmas Special. Courtesy of a friend of friends who happens to have a random collection of '80s Christmas specials on VHS. It was unintentionally completely fucking hilarious. Thanks to all manner of random details that were ever so easy to make sexual comments about (He-Man's pink outfit, the flying dildo ship, about forty billion other things I forgot), Skeletor's random acts of kindness towards the little kids who got transported from Earth to Eternia by accident, and various characters' habits of floating in one spot while slowly explaining what they were going to do next (and other forms of EXTREEEEME cheesiness), it provided much fodder for bawdy snarkage from the peanut gallery. Why did these cartoons not seem nearly that silly when we were little?

Well, we left for the hotel at around 2 a.m., and I'd say we got back to the house (where my laptop and the internets are) less than an hour ago. And it doesn't help that I don't have much to talk about other than complaining about this stupid cold that doesn't seem to be going away. I don't have a sore throat any more, but my nose is still stuffy/runny, and last night, I got this random stabbing pain in my back when I breathed deeply. It only happened twice, but it scared the shit out of me. I may have gotten something bacterial. Blah. Wouldn't that be a real kick in the nadsicles. If it doesn't get better, I'll have to see a doctor when I get back home.

I'm not a guy, but I don't see any sort of a conundrum here (unless the sanitary products belonged to a woman who would kick your ass for using them all up without replacing them ). Unused tampons and pads are just cotton or a similar material. They're perfectly clean. There is no blood or other bodily waste on them. I understand why used tampons and pads are considered to be icky (other people's blood is a biohazard, after all), but some people's disgust of the clean, unused products themselves baffles me. Are those same people grossed out by a fresh roll of TP because it will ultimately be used to wipe shit off someone else's ass?

I love movies and TV shows designed to amuse kids and adults. When the first Rugrats movie came out, I went to see it with some friends. (We thought the cartoon was cute and entertaining.) It was pretty good, partly because it included quite a lot of under-the-radar humor for the grownups in the audience.

The classic Warner Brothers cartoons were originally made for all audiences and shown before movies at theaters. When I was little, I would watch them and laugh my ass off at the slapstick, but I missed most of the references to political figures and celebrities that were well-known when the cartoons were made. I bet I would catch much more of that now.
