Since the two are so similar to eachother in other respects, do you think it could be using the same compression as Fire Emblem?

In FE, there was a flag byte every 8 tiles. It used the first bit of the byte on the first tile, the second on the second, and so on. If the bit was 0, it treated it normally. If the bit was 1, it was a compressed portion. The compressed portion consisted of a number of bytes backwards and a number of bytes to copy. I think it said that in three bytes, but I don't really remember it too well.

The aggrivating part, so I found, was that it started the compression in the header, not in the map.

If it's using that compression, you should be able to find where your level data is in the ROM by searching for the first few tiles of the memory version, before the compression could actually do something, just put a wildcard byte in once every eight tiles.

Of course, the flag byte could be in one of eight different places. I recomend starting with the place it ends up if there's two tiles before the flag, as I'm pretty sure that's where it worked out in FE.

I thought I would've had yesterday's postcount++ing in the bag, but then my standards got in the way.

I prefer the Spur. The Snake is weak and the Machine Gun is pointless once you get the Booster 2.0. Oh, right, and the Spur is liquid awesome.

I like the Blade, but the Nemesis is much nicer in Hell.

The best time I've seen through Hell was done with the Nemesis and Snake. It was 2:17.

Sukasa and your up-part-down nasty symbol: no, you fail.

This is similar to that guy who said "hav". You cannot ruin a word just so you can avoid having to think.

This ruling is official, for I am an official.

Posted on 12-31-05 06:10 PM, in Molecules System: An Idea Link
Modelling the interactions of every last molecule is a great idea.

...if you're a theoretical physicist.

Back in the real world, it turns out that molecular physics doesn't work so well if you try to use it to model common objects. You'll get the most realistic physics by using classical mechanics*.

A lot of games already have very good physics engines for this. Whether they bother to use them very well could be debated. Though I think everyone sane is going to be on the side of "no, they're not using these engines very well".

So, modeling things on the molecular level? No**.

Now, on our other topic, of voxels? Hell yes.

I mean, even primative voxels are shiny. There's a lot of interesting stuff we can do with voxels. Like deformable stuffs. And voxels bring back the sprite. You all know that sprites are awesome, right?

On the topic of deformable stuff: You know, you don't need to limit this to terrain. Imagine a FPS made entirely in voxels. Yes, you can shell a path strait through a mountainside if you're bored enough. But more interestingly, voxel tanks. Imagine, you shoot an enemy tank, and blow a chunk out of it. Now you can see bits of the inside of the tank. Specific voxels can be set to disable or completely destroy the tank. So you can blow off the turret. Or shoot the gas tank. Or sandblast the paint off. Whatever trips your trigger.

*You'll get more realistic results with other types of physics if you're game's really off the wall. Some examples:
--Playing billiards with stars: relativistic physics
--Super-microscopic Doom where you're the size of a virus: molecular physics
--The Adventures of Clawsalot The Lobster: fluid dynamics
**Unless your game is The Adventures of Atom Adam. In which case you can feel free to use molecular physics if that trips your triger.

A few days ago, I was trying to figure out how to effectively exercise a certain muscle group, and asking around to see if I could get any ideas. Then one of my hacking buddies IMed me and we started chatting. And I realized: "Hey, wait a second, this guy's an olympic quality athelete. Why haven't I asked him?". And I did, and he had awesome advice.

And thus, my resolution:

Ask awesome people the right questions.

He said "Eeeeee-eee-eee-EEEE-eee-EEEEE". There is no translation, that's what he said.

Also, no, it's not legally recognised. From the article: "While she acknowledged the "wedding" had no legal bearing she did say it reflected her deep feelings toward the bottlenosed, 35-year-old object of her affection."

Hooray for reading comprehension!

1. Are you happy with your weight?

No. I have no clue what happened, but I just lost a whole lot of weight and my body started behaving like I had a whole lot more. It's a pain. I think it may be lack of sleep though.

2. If you're not happy with your weight, what are you doing to change (gain, lose) weight?

I go on walks whenever I can. They're about 5 miles long and take an hour and 20 minutes though, so I miss out when I have homework or weather or a lack of time in my way.

And I do situps and pushups every night. But those are more for gaining muscle than anything. I mean... my legs are coated in muscle, there's no reason the rest of me shouldn't be. But it isn't.

4. Are you happy with your body (regardless of weight)?

No, it's misbehaving. I think a lack of sleep is killing my muscle control though. I should be better if I'm ever allowed to catch up on my sleep debt and start actually sleeping at night again.

5. Has this improved from last time you answered these questions? (if you can remember)

I'm sure that it'll be much better once I figure out whatever is wrong. But right now it's definately worse.

That's nuts. I wish I thought of that.

How many copy-cat websites do you think will be capable of getting that much money before the market is saturated?

Okay, so, this game is old, but I don't care, because it's entirely under-appreciated.

It's called Words That Follow.

And the link is this: http://www.side-quest.com/caption/wtf.jnlp

Just download and run.

For those of you who like to actually know what you're doing, in this game, they show you an image, and you write a caption. Then you vote on who wrote the best caption. Then you get points and find out who wrote each.

Come play!

Yeah, I know what you mean.

That's why I put a link on this forum.

You know, so we could all just flood the place with Acmlmers.

And remember folks: the longer everyone leaves it up, the better the chances of getting a good game going.

Okay, so... I've always wondered why there are all these crazy flavours of soda, and none of them are spearmint. I mean, everyone loves spearmint. Everything else comes in spearmint, but not soda. You can get licorice flavoured soda, but not spearmint.

So I decided I'd make some.

And I did this by mixing some industrial-strength spearmint flavouring with some club soda.

I tried some.

Gorram. That stuff was horrible.

You see the fact that soft drinks are supposed to be about 20% high fructose corn syrup somehow slipped my mind.
