Originally posted by Colin Truthfully, the loss of DQIX is maybe their biggest setback yet, at least in Japan. Seriously, DQ in Japan is like FF (If not even bigger than that; horror stories of DQ launches as chaotic as those of the current-gen consoles go back to DQIII in Japan, as one of the very early issues of Nintendo Power will tell you) over there. I mean, Christ. |

I'm going to be even more pessimistic than the "It's not for me" crowd and ask, "Did anyone else think 'iNGage' upon hearing about this for the first time?" |

I note an "undo" count, which leads me to believe you used save states. Did you use slowdown too, by any chance?
|
Such runs are usually called "tool-assisted" runs. Not that one is any better or worse than the other, but it's very important not to lump emulated runs that use slowdown/save states in with runs done on consoles (Generally refered to as simply "speedruns"), as they really have two different goals in mind, and there's enough trouble with getting people outside of the scene familiar with the distinctions. Just saying. I've never played this particular hack, unfortunately. (restricted) | (restricted) | (restricted) |

Originally posted by Colin I'd just like to share something re: this collection with you. You have the games, and a bit of info about them, museums, fun factoids about them, what have you. My personal favorite factoid was this one re: Phantasy Star IV: "When Phantasy Star IV came out, it retailed for nearly $100US. Think about the price of this collection. You're welcome." That's right. One hundred dollars. Think about that before you go complaining about how today's games are "omg so expensive wtf". EDIT: Fun anecdote for you: When Chrono Trigger came out, my cousin, then working your typical minimum-wage-or-slightly-above teenage job, got a paycheck that he and I both thought was huge. Seriously, he was rich. We were awed that with that paycheck, he purchased PSIV (As mentioned above, $100) AND Chrono Trigger ($80), and had money left over. Ah, for the simpler times. Originally posted by XkeeperOriginally posted by Yoronosuku Clearly you didn't. He said he worked there, but does so no longer. (EDIT:The post in question. His exact words were, as Kingpin said, "I don't work for WildTangent, and haven't for well over a year" I don't know how the hell you took that and turned it into "I never worked for WildTangent". There's no damn way to interpret that as "I never worked for WildTangent," in fact. END EDIT) And as others in other places have said, StepMania does quite a bit to blow your "OMG ILLEGUL" theory right the fuck out of the water. (edited by Emptyeye on 01-27-07 09:24 PM)

I could see your point if he had worked for WT while developing this. But he didn't, and the article's inaccuracy on this point (It calls him "a developer for WT", implying that WT was somehow in cahoots on the whole thing AND that he was working for them currently) caused a huge uproar amongst a "OMG SPYWARE ASSHOL!!1!1" crowd that wouldn't have been there in the first place if only the reporting had been accurate. Indeed, I think if the article were accurate in the first place, pretty much everything, including the uproar you're complaining about, would never have been there. |

Yeah, I'll echo the Mario RPG suggestions.
|
Actually, wasn't Final Fantasy Mystic Quest designed for just such a non-RPG playing audience? Despite what elitist jackasses claim about the game (O NOES it r not REUL FF!!1!1 Right, and it wasn't supposed to be), I'd give that a try.

Originally posted by Hiryuu I believe it started with the first Extreme US, actually. And even in SN US, there is at least some EyeToy functionality (I just checked, the EyeToy Compatible logo is definitely there), so it couldn't have been a total flop. If it was, I think I'd be inclined to blame it more on overall EyeToy sales rather than how it was incorporated into DDR specifically. (restricted) | |
