Yay for continually taking the following course of action (In this picture, "Us" refers to Acmlm board staff, playing the part of Hulk Hogan. The Rock is playing the part of "Moron", who is the idiot of your choice):

Wow. Okay, here's just a few. Note that I don't really know the official name of lots of these.

Final Fantasy IV: Zeromus
Super Metroid: Lower Norfair
Mega Man X: Sigma's Castle Stage 1
Mega Man X2: X-Hunter Stages 1/2
Lagoon: Lagoon Castle
Ys III (Wanderers From Ys): Galbalan
SimCity: Metropolis
Bubsy (Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind): Stage 16
Chrono Trigger: Battle with Magus
Star Fox: Corneria
(EDIT TO ADD SOME AFTER READING OTHER LISTS)
Chuck Rock: Title (How did I forget this?!...oh yeah, the game went to hell once you actually pushed Start to get past the title screen)
A Link to the Past: Dark World

For two, even if you meant that they cared about money above all else, saying this implies that this is not true of every other company, which is similarly false.

1. Fair enough. Maybe it's not the only thing they care about, but it's the only thing they care about whereby the layperson can hope to influence the policy.

2. I never said that, I never implied it, and I don't know how you could think I did. I'm aware that video game companies are hardly the only companies that operate with their primary goal being profits (I would actually hope any competent company would make that their primary goal, for obvious reasons), and I don't know how what I said would imply otherwise.

Anyway, having thought this over some more, I see there can be valuable applications for the system (Like what XK and NSNick mentioned), but the system seems less headed in that direction and more in the "cripple the game and make people pay out the ass and make that the only way to get all the content" model that Sony seems to be using. And that's too bad.

Wow, no FreeCiv? I'll have to fix that.

FreeCiv- As you might expect, an open-source clone of the earlier Civilization games (It's closest to Civ II).

Hey, he brought it back and plugged MAGFest (OR: East Coast PAX, OR EVEN: "PAX Before PAX Ever Existed"). Good enough for me.

ADDITIONALLY: If it's NSFs you're looking for, this has your hookup. It's run by one of the guys who frequents the Minibosses Message Board.

Hmm. Looking through the last few comments near the bottom of the article, it seems the law of supply and demand is somewhat coming back to bite these people in the ass-there are SO MANY PS3s up for auction that the price is down around $750 on average (This is about a 25% profit. Good, sure, but a far cry from the 300% or so we were hearing about with the PS2 and other systems).

Cookie?! It's from the song "We are the champions".

Wrong. The "We Are the Champions" line is "You BROUGHT me fame and fortune...."

(If you can't tell, this is me in "Be a Prick and Argue Semantics" mode)

People might be willing to pay that much, but I maintain that so many people will put it up for auction that they won't have to.

But yeah, I'd ask for a cut of the profits too.

If Nintendo hadn't managed to get the DS kick off a bit of a word of mouth coupe, things may have turned out a little differently

I was about to fire off a sarcastic retort to this, but upon reading it a second time, I find it don't think you were saying anywhere near what I thought you were saying originally (Which could be boiled down to "Nintendo got lucky").

So no sarcasm from me. Nonetheless, the point of the response-that-isn't stands. Whatever you think of their last couple generations of home systems, the fact is that Nintendo knows what they're doing with the portable market, as they have consistently OBLITERATED technically superior challengers in that market since at least the early 90s when the original "brick" Game Boy swatted away the combined forces of the Turbo express, Atari Lynx, and Sega Game Gear (All color systems, amongst other things) as though they were a mere army of gnats. It's not as though Nintendo were fortunate to have survived this generation with their stranglehold on the portable market intact; it was a freaking stranglehold for a reason, people.

I'm with Colin on Zelda II.

"O NOES it is teh DIFFERNT than the other ones IT R TEH SUXXX!!!1!1!"

Funny how revisionist history would have you think the game was an utter failure when, in fact, it sold quite strongly back in the day, got lots of coverage in the video game mags (And not just NP), etc.

It's a damn fun game in its own right.
