Awe. Congrats winners.. you all get +10 points for being even more geeky
Just kidding.. I love it. And I can't believe someone is seriously mad over something as insignificant as this. Silly, it's supposed to be fun. Not, uh... not fun. Oh I'm slick. |

How can this even be enforced?
I can say my name is Joe Wilson, and they'd have no clue if it was my real name or not. The person being annoyed that is. "The use of the word 'annoy' is particularly problematic," says Marv Johnson, legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union. "What's annoying to one person may not be annoying to someone else." Am I the only one who laughed out loud at that quotation? This act or law, or whatnot... doesn't make any logical sense. |

That's ridiculous. I used to work in a deli and literally every single day this man came in and bought $100 worth of lottery tickets. Every day around 10 in the morning. I think he had a gambling problem, because I always saw him at the OTB (it was like, right next door). But it was a pain doing the lottery every day for him, cause he'd get like souper specific. Silly.
But yeah.. apparantly you're not supposed to make phone calls at gas stations either. Cell phones can like.. ignite the gas because of the small spark they cause when you dial an outgoing number. That's what I was told at least.. |

You are a clever one Ziff
Math: People get mad at things that happened like... thousands of years ago. Why, I don't really know.. it's either they have a hidden agenda or, they were just taught to think like that. Take religious wars for example. Well, I think anyone would be lying if they said that they weren't still pissed at the Nazi's. That's sorta different though... when people refer to WWI and II with the French, it's kind of like... how does that even KIND of affect people today? |

They examine two different realms. Religion examines beliefs and science examines facts. It's impossible for them to contradict, which is why I don't know why so many religious people get mad at scientists.
It all comes down to accepting another possibility. Believe it or not, people from 500 A.D. might have been wrong about evolution. I know, it's shocking. But science can never prove or disprove god. So, I don't really see the issue. If you're religious, and you believe in the core of the doctrine.. then you should be accepting and open to new ideas. Or at least that's what I was taught in religion school... but from what I've seen.. it's not applied all that well. |

Okay. Hypothetically, let's say Acmlm's was one big happy family. Who would play the role of the mom/dad.. rebellious kid.. crazy uncle.. deadbeat brother... grandma who knits things?
So the idea of this thread is to say what role you think the person on top of you would play in this dysfunctional, and large, family. Feel free to debate over who should be what. And when you give an explanation, make it detailed... and make it actually make sense. Or else the thread will roll over on it's side and die at a young age. So uh... GO! (Grandma who knits things? What was I thinking? ) |

I'll take public embarassment. I don't even get embarassed in public anymore because of the slew of embarassing things that have happened to me.
- Mooning an entire ski resort. - Clogging up toilets at two of my friends houses. - Pissing myself because I was drunk. - The first time I hung out with my ex-boyfriend (from freshman year), having embarassing footage of when I was like 10 years old shown of me. Like... my sister and I putting on a circus for our parents. - My skirt comming completely UP on the SI ferry in front of about 20 homeless guys bumming it on the staircase. - My skirt comming up ON STAGE during SING, because I had to dress like shirley temple.. thus having to wear a child's dress.. and having to spin around quickly in a scene. Not a good combination in front of a FULL HOUSE. - Having the runs...... literally. From the 65th street subway station to the Barnes and Nobles on 66th street. Dodging traffic and such. Oh gosh. - Fainting in school. Well, it was embarassing ths first time.. because I was in Chem lab for the first time ever.. and I fainted. - Falling flat on my face in front of my entire 7th grade class, bringing a HUGE FAN down with me. - 4th grade play, I had to catch this girl when she "fainted".. and we both fell through the curtain and... brought the whole curtain down with me. In front of my entire grade. So after all that, I can think of a few reasons why public embarassment for $1000 would be kind of fun. You'd have another interesting story to tell. All those above, are what me and my friends refer to as "Raina" situations. It's just... another typical Raina situation. Fasho. |

music (band and orchestra) Psht. And chorus.
You have to have a good Choral program with theory classes and sight singing classes. That's fascinating. There should be a piano class as well, so singers can understand how theory, sightsinging and piano relate to their voice. There has to be an amazing Drama department as well. And an amazing art department with unlimited art supplies, and a throng of talented/helpful/not overly critical teachers. I'm a huge advocate for the arts. The Global Department should be huge to. Global history, and history in general is amazing. Favorite subject. History should be taught more in depth. Like, more in a cause-and-effect way. How for every action there is an equal an opposite reaction way. History is a ripple of cause and effects.. and will be forever. So, people don't necessarily need to learn from the past.. they need to learn how to apply the thinking of cause-and-effect to the future. But personally, I just find history fascinating. It's the stories of extraordinary people. Everyone has a story though, it'd be cool to learn about the history of ordinary people. Accomplishments, triumphs, defeats.. secrets.. there's so much that gets lost in history because we deem ordinary people to be "boring". Meanwhile... we're all just ordinary people. I think students in highschool should be forced to take psychology as well, it gets them to think of WHY humans do the things they do. It gets them to think more about the world around them in general. And highschool students need that. In my dreamschool I would study Latin, to get a better understanding of the english language. I would also study Italian, French and German. This is because, yes I like opera.. and yes I sing classical pieces. So, studying the languages I would have to know for the music would be very helpful. You'd get a better understanding of what you were singing, and be able to exp English. People would be forced to be more creative in english. Poetry would be big. I'd suggest not reading a slew of novels, but going out there and reading books that interest you. Have a book log, and do a report on it when it's finished. As, sort of proof that you read it. Also, I'd suggest alot more writing in english. Alot of students have a hard time constructing essays. If they just saw it as a natural form of communication, or as a way to exp I'd like to be able to take theology at my school to. Or have some sort of Philosophy class. Or maybe a combination of the two. I'm definatly taking theology in college as one of those filler courses. Cause, I love to learn. And well, that's interesting to me. Math? Uh, yeah unfortunatly you kind of need math. I think they use advanced math primarily to weed people out of their majors. Like becomming a doctor, you need a lot of math. Except, I'm never going to apply advanced calculus at my job. I'd think doctors would have to study advanced science, biology, organic chem even... and more humanitarian classes.. like history classes, physch classes and even english. To know why people act the way they do, and react in certain ways is a vital form of being a good nurturing doctor. So yeah.. Well, I'd make the math teachers more understanding. Like, I guess... move a bit slower and be a bit more helpful. I just started imaginary numbers.. and uh... wtf? We're already doing logs that apply imaginary numbers. I want to die when I'm in math. You'd only have to take the science classes that you'd need for what you're going to do in life. Sciences are specific and precise. If you want to become a doctor, take biology and AP bio classes in highschool. It makes sense. Highschool should be training for you career. Too many people go to college not knowing what they want from it.. or how to apply the knowledge they have in college.. to getting an actual job. So yeah, these questions should be answered in highschool. Or at least, considered seriously. ... Jeez. Talk about rambling on and on and on. I think it's time for some sleeep. |

Prepare yourself for a long winded, slightly confusing, story.
I have this friend, Krissy, who was both me and my sister's best friend since middle school. All of this year she's been telling my sister that she is a heroin addict. At first my sister wasn't alarmed. There were no track marks, and really no signs that this could be true. Then in the past month, she found out that she had been sniffing it. Krissy even brought her "stash" upstate. White powder in a bag, in a small jewelry box. And brought it to the bathroom with her everytime she went. Evidence was mounting, we were scared. New Years Eve was the last straw. Krissy got drunk OUT OF HER MIND, and passed out in my room. Vomited on my sheets.. and oh gosh. This was before the ball dropped. While she was drunk she kept screaming out "omg.. HEROIN!".. and such. All my other friends had no idea, and well.. frankly, were too drunk to really remember her doing this. That night she stayed at our house. She hadn't planned to, but she didn't want her mom to find out she had gotten drunk. My parents are pretty cool with that, so they let her stay over. She slept in my sisters room, and I slept on the couch. That night my sister told me she showed all the visable signs of withdrawal. Shaking, kicking... moaning.. what have you. And at like, 5 in the morning she was scared out of her mind for Krissy. Fast forward to two days later. We decided it would be the best idea if we told Krissy's mom about it. We figured, she really needed help. And we weren't sure if it was true before... but now we knew. So, I hung out with this friend while my sister and another friend (who was sober on New Years), went to her house. They told her mother everything. They gave her notes Krissy wrote to my sister, and about how Krissy was getting it. Apparantly, she had told my sister that she was to the point of whoring herself for heroin. She had this whole other group of friends that we had never met.. who were kinda like druggies and such. She even went out with one of them for a year.... and we didn't know it. His name was Joe and he was abusive towards her. This is important. She said Joe was at her house all the time. So when my sister told Krissy's mom about this... the reaction from her mom was utter disbelief. She didn't think Krissy had ANY time to accomplish any of these things. When Lindsey mentioned Joe, her mom told Lindsey she had never met him. Strange? A little bit. It gets stranger. We figured her mom would give her a drug test and if it turned out positive for heroin, she would be sent to a rehab. The past week, she's been in school every single day. She went to the guidance conselor once. Supposedly she has gotten a drug test, and the results aren't back yet. So. Where's the withdrawal? Where's the evidence? Who is Joe? It doesn't make ANY logical sense.. why would she lie about this? Why would she go out of her way for a whole year to deceive my sister into believing that she was addicted to heroin. She even showed my sister her "stash" when we were upstate. This story takes another strange turn. Krissy's been telling everyone at school that my sister told her mom she was smoking pot. Cause, that's such a big deal.. =/. So basically, everyone's mad at my sister for no reason now. Krissy is lying to make it seem like my sister did a terrible and dishonest thing... when really, if Krissy were actually on heroin, my sister probably did the best possible thing to try to help her to recovery. And people are catching on.. cause we have plenty of friends that smoke pot.. my sister does it sometimes, as do I. So it wouldn't make sense that she'd squeal on Krissy for that. My friend actually connected the dots without even talking to Krissy that much about it. She remembered how when they all saw Rent, Krissy's favorite character was the girl addicted to heroin. And her favorite postsecrets are the ones about adicts. She knows my sister well enough to know that there had to be another rational reason. There's another element to this though. What if Krissy is mentally unstable? There's a difference between lying, and actually being schitzophrenic. If Krissy actually believes these delusions.... then she is, in fact.. schitzo. If she's just lying for attention, and she's getting it.. that's a completely different thing entirely. It just... why would she lie about this? And if I do believe that she's mentally unstable... and she's actually hallucinating.. or believing delusions.. and living an imaginary life. What can I even do about it? It's not like you can casually accuse someone of that. This whole situation is nothing short of crazy. Just I dunno.. thoughts? Advice would be nice. |

Math: We got her drug tested. Supposedly the results haven't come back yet. It's been well over a week. And Krissy isn't letting my sister call her mom. My Friday, my sister's gonna call her mom anyway and find out what she's doing/not doing.
I just. I'm lost on why someone would lie about this. And I'm lost as to why she's in school feeling fine, and even feeling well enough to spread rumors and be like... normal. It's just all so strange. |

Nothing that I know about could be upsetting her. We're giving the situation until Friday. My sister has already given Krissy numerous times to tell her what's going on, as have I... but she keeps squirming out of telling us. Or she's covering lies with lies.
And she does do other things that beg for attention. Such as inappropriate behavior.. all the time. She's super loud and outgoing. She once threw an icecream cone at a cop. That wasn't too fun to run from .. So yes, that's one of the many possibilities we're considering. We just don't understand why she'd exaggerate it to the point that we'd think she was in serious danger, and had to tell her mom. Like, we've cried about it. We've worried and stayed up at night lost for what to do for the month we knew it was serious. Why would she torture us to that level? That's why I'm having a hard time justifying it as just attention seeking. (As a side note, that John Lennon quote you have relating to music... is my favorite music quote ever. I'm sorry, just got a bit excited when I saw it in your sig) |

Originally posted by HyperHacker They can't do that. If they have a warrent to search my house for drugs... and they find a bomb in my closet, but no drugs.. they can't arrest me for having a bomb. Your defense would be that the cops had no warrent to search for a bomb. It unrelated to what you were charged with. So therefore if you're brought in for stabbing someone, and you're found innocent... they're not going to bring you in and say "Well, you didn't stab Dave... but you annoyed someone via the internet two days ago". To get you for that they'd have to catch you in the act, or someone would have to file a complaint. |
