I don't think so. We must be debating two differnet issues here, because, to me this doesn't have anything to do with infinite regression. I talking about things existing, not how they came in to existance. Beside, I don't debate religion, it's pointless and silly.

None of the characters in The Green Mile had any real depth. All the guards were good except one, and all the inmates were good except one. And the good guards never did anything bad, and the bad guard never did anything good. The good inmates never did anything bad (even though most of them must of done something bad to get in there), and the bad inmate never did anything good. The whole healing power business was completely out of place. Also, John Coffey was just another Lennie from Of Mice and Men.

The movie seem to go to great lengths to squeeze emotions out the viewer. They made sure to show no faults in the prisoners, just so you would feel bad when they're executed. Then they make sure the bad guys have no redeeming qualities just to make sure you're happy to see them killed (or worse). It all just annoyed me, at least The Island what somewhat entertaining.

Why not focus on determining the existance of the soul first? Otherwise all other pursuits seem to be a waste of time.

I'm not really refering to the soul, just human consciousness (maybe that's what some call a soul). As far as consciousness goes, we kind of have to assume it exists since we experience it ("I think therefor I am"). My point wasn't really that the consciousness actually does cease to exist when the brain stops functioning, simply that just because you can't describe this happening, doesn't mean that it doesn't.

Half of advanced physics involves something the human mind can't fully grasp. For instance, I'm aware of 4 dimensions, width, height, length, and time. I can't imagine what others are like, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Is it possible for people on this board to debate something besides religion?

Seems there are several threads not related to religion, people just don't seem too interested in debating those topics.

Debating religion is silly. Its like arguing over which flavor of ice cream is the best, even if there is a right answer you'll never prove it to your opponent.

On the one side you have Athiests who just think they're geniuses. Like they were sitting there one day and it suddenly occured to them that there's no real proof in God's existance, so now they must go point it out to the millions of people who have yet to realise it. Everybody over the age of 12 has already figured out that's there's no proof in God. It's common sense. But they think that if they keep pointing it out over and over, it will change people's minds. They're completely unable to grasp the concept that religion isn't about logic or proof, its about faith. If it was about logic, we wouldn't call it religion, we'd just call it science.

And on the other side their are Christians, who apparently are so threathened by the logic of opposing views, that they feel they need to come up with their own logic to combat it. In essense, trying to turn their own religion into science, albeit flawed and illogical science. The real issue is their own lack of faith.

If you believe in ID. Go right ahead, but don't try passing it off a science. It's not, and it just defeats the purpose of your own religion.

If you don't believe in ID. Well don't then. But don't insult the intelligence of those who do by acting like they're just to stupid to see why you're right.

I have maybe 100mb of metal and classic rock. I know, I'm boring. I'm not really a fan of pop, country, alternative or rap. Although I'll admit there are a few good songs from each of these genres.

The wife of a guy I work with has me to put an extra hard drive in her computer periodically, she has literally over a terabyte of mp3s.

I think you're missing the point. It's not that they don't want you using your image, its that they don't want you using it on an external site (I don't know german, but that's what I gather), even if its your image, its still on their servers, so its their bandwidth you're using. You need host it with site that hosts images specifically for hotlinking, such as ImageShack

I as going to post this earlier, but it occurred to me there may be people who have friends or relatives who visit this board, so you may not want to post what you're getting them.

So what did you get people and what did they think of it? This is what I got for people (although I can't say what they thought of it since, due to scheduling difficulties I won't be celebrating Christmas for another week):

I got my mom a 170 pcs art set (paints, pastels, and what-not), and a pad of 24" by 18" drawing paper.

I got my oldest sister (she's 26) some plush toys related to the "Lupin" series, although once I got them I realized they were smaller than I thought so I'll get her something to go along with it

For my other older sister (she's 24), I got a case of hawaiin coffee. There's like 100 and some odd 3 oz packs in a huge box, I got a case for myself as well.

I was going to get my younger sister (she's 18) a GBA, and even got so far as shopping around for one, when I realized how stupid that was. She had 3 of her fingers on her right hand amputated a few months back after getting them caught in a punch press. Next year I'll get her a Revolution though, since that only requires one hand. So this year I'll get her some fudge, I'll order it today so it will be fresh when I give it to her.

I got my grandpa a bunch of old Fate magazines (late 40's through late 70's). Although I actually got them for his birthday, and just didn't have a chance to give them to him, since I got them though I've read them all, they're fun to read as long as you don't take them to seriously.

I got my niece (she's 4) a set of six dvd's of old cartoons. She has two right now, and last time I was over there she played them over so many times I had the "Little Lulu" theme stuck in my head for a week.

I'm still stumped on what to get my grandma, all I know for certain that she likes is the Beatles, and I got here all their albums last year. Oh well I'll come up with something, I got a week.

I bought everything on eBay, because I'm both lazy and cheap, so it works out pretty well.

edit: better?

Because it annoys me when people post wide images and long strings of text that stretch out the page, so to avoid doing it my self, I set the overflow value on my div to auto. Ordinarily, my posts aren't long enough to make vertical scrollbar, but if it helps I'll edit my post so it doesn't make one this time.

What gets me about this, is that he had been giving permission to the NSA to do this. They might as well of been asking permission from me, the constitution gives me just as much jurisdiction over this (none).
Then he has the nerve to call those who informed the public criminals.

The Patriot Act isn't quite as powerful as its been made out be (there's a fairly unbiased article about it over on Wikipedia), I was going to post more about the limitation of it in the thread I made about renewing it but no one ever replied (actually my last post in that thread was about this topic). The Patriot Act still requires a warrant for wiretap, but in situations where it is considered an emergency, the warrent can be issue after the tap has been done. In this case there were no warrants at all.

If this were CNN, BBC, CBC, CCPN or something...Then this would make sense.

This is Acmlm's. A tucked away dingy corner of the internet.

It seems aleast some of people here have already heard of this site and the people on it. The more outrageous and offensive they become, the more people post threads like this on message boards linking to their site to point out how outrageous and offensive they are, and then the more people click on those links to go back their site and view all there merchandise, and read all their rascist propaganda.

It's all about getting people's attention.

It's horrible for you, and it shrinks your heart and other organs too (I guess that's why I've been such a bitch lately...).

So, cut back. That's my resolution.

Ah, the caffeine withdrawal headache, I know it all too well. If you drink alot of coffee, I'd suggest swapping it out for hot chocolate, its obviously not really the same, but it gives you something warm to drink, kind of like chewing gum for smokers.

It was a pretty big story a few weeks back, I guess the original poster assumed everyone knew the details.

Google News Search: Domestic Spying

This should fill you in on all the details, as well as the latest developments and editorial takes on both sides.

It's all the soda I drink that really gets me. If anything, I'll start by switching to decaf, yeah, but the key here is to stop drinking so much soda...

*looks at his desk and the litre bottle of Mountain Dew + cans of Pepsi -- all empty*

Yeah, it's a long road ahead.

Ok, I see, I also drink coffee for the taste, which is why I don't drink decaf, I've gotten to the point where I can taste the difference. I'm not sure if I actually normally taste the caffiene, or its something about the process for removing the caffiene that changes the flavor. I just rather drink something else altogether than funky tasting coffee.

You could try switching to caffiene free soda, but I really think the sugar in pop is worse than the caffiene. It's like drinking candy.

Immortality is kind of like being invinsible, it would be nice to be invisible, but not all the time, it would be better if you could turn it off if you want. I wouldn't mind immortality, but I wouldn't want to be stuck with it. Like, I don't age, or get sick, and I heal quickly, but still have the option of putting a bullet through my head if the need arose.
I guess I'd just like to experience as much as I possibility can before I die, there wouldn't be much rush if I was immortal. If I really ran out of things to do I could always start insulting everyone in the universe.
