It'd probably be easy if you made a .bin file for BlockTool. Ever notice how you can change where you can trigger blocks simply by modifying the offsets? If you want a block to be triggered only by standing on top of it, set the Above Offset to whatever it's supposed to be, and everything else to -1. That means that it can't be activated unless Mario is on top of it (Other Sprites are different- THEIR activation data is switched by Sprite UD Offset and Sprite LR Offset). BlockTool makes everything sound so easy, doesn't it?

A few things that I want to say (yet at the same time DON'T, so I don't hurt anyone):

1: Nice layout! I never knew you liked that game! (I do too, but I find it very long and annoying sometimes.)
2: Why Marin? (Did you ever see that coming?)
3: at the fact that you have 0 Arrows and only ONE HEART LEFT.

Nice. That just makes me want a layout of my own even more! Then again, simplicity is good.

Posted on 01-03-07 12:05 AM, in Yoshi Coin Questions Link
I have a few questions about the Yoshi Coins:

1: Can I change the sound played when Mario collects a Yoshi Coin? I want it to play the Normal Coin sound instead.
2: How can I prevent Mario from gaining 1 extra life when he collects 5+ Yoshi Coins in a single level without dying?
3: Is it possible to make all 5 Dragon Coins show up on the Status Bar instead of them all vanishing when he gets exactly 5?

My aim is to turn Yoshi Coins into Silver Coins. Anyone remember my ambitious ideas to make a gate that you can pass when Mario collects 5 Silver Coins in an area? Well... I decided to go ahead and use Yoshi Coins for that. My only problem is that Yoshi Coins vanish from the status bar when he collects 5 of them, and you get a 1-Up when you do so. I'm sure we ALL know that SMW gets VERY annoying when it's discovered that you can gain too many surplus lives WAY too easily. The fact that Yoshi Coins give you extra lives when collected only makes it worse. I NEED to disable that. (Though, considering I plan on using these only a few times in my hack, I don't really see why I should disable that, but I want to...)

Edit: Oh yeah, is it also possible to disable the increasing scores that Yoshi Coins give you? I want them to just give you 1000 Points and that's IT. (That is, 1000 per coin.)

I laughed so hard, a piece of food I was eating went somewhere it shouldn't have... That was funny. I only watched parts 1 and 2, but the moment I showed my mom part 1, she HAD to show it to the rest of my family (through e-mail, of course)! XD Now if only someone would do that to TIGGER. _

......What? She's my favorite character! In 2nd place is Tails. OH HOW I LOVE BASHING EGGMAN'S BOTS WITH AMY'S HAMMER!

Do you have any new Zones in your hack? (By that, I mean, "Did you find a way to add more Zones to this hack, not counting any Extra Zone you may have planned?") I'm currently not sure if I'd be able to bring myself to go through all those Sonic 1 Zones... I mean, I can't even bring myself to even clear Act 2 of Green Hill Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis (The GBA remake). Maybe it's just because of the terrible music... Yeah, that's gotta be it. I've NEVER had that sort of thing happen to me when playing the original on Sonic Mega Collection.

Woah. I took another look at it, and it felt like I was staring at a sequel to Four Swords Adventures. O_o In other words, it looks good. It looks a lot like Four Swords Adventures, which I liked.

Wow. Are you using custom GFX in your SMB3 hack, AlexAR? What are you calling it?

You're welcome for that comment, NEON. (I'd have responded to that sooner, but I lost internet connention for 2 days for a reason I won't post here... Then there's the fact that we've been TRYING to get this wireless router to work for TWO DAYS. It STILL won't allow an internet connection! And since I moved all my work onto my laptop (finally), I can't post any updates about them until I can get this wi-fi working. *grumble*)

Posted on 01-10-07 06:11 PM, in Problems with Bio's ExAnimated Overworld patch Link
I patched Bio's patch for extra overworld animations to a test hack (I wanted the full SMB3 overworld, so... ) a month or so ago, and after all this time, I finally got it to work right. The only problem? I messed up GFX00 a few times in the process. I noticed that Bio's patch requires the GFX to be placed directly into the ROM- AT THE LOCATION OF SOME CODE. The first time I messed up GFX00, I was able to fix it by copying exactly what's there in another ROM that I DIDN'T modify at that location. However, I messed it up again, but this time, I CAN'T FIX IT. GFX00 is messed up, the "Nintendo presents" sprite doesn't show up anymore, and I can't fix it. I believe Bio's patch requires me to put GFX at the location of the code for this stuff. Either that, or I messed up my ROM playing trial-and-error with Bio's patch (I absolutely DESPISE trial-and-error; I lose A LOT at that game.). Is there a way to salvage my GFX00 in the hack? If not, I know I can always start from scratch (It's not like I mind- It's easy to insert the SMB3 overworld once you get the hang of it) again.

Edit: Nevermind. I solved my problem. Could a mod please close this now?

Posted on 01-10-07 09:07 PM, in Eggvine question Link
I want to try my hand at hacking YI, but... I find Eggvine to be a pain to use. For one, levels NEVER look ANYTHING like they do in-game in the editor (like for the main of 1-7, no ground is shown for where the Fuzzies are, but there's ground there in the game). I heard in a thread here about a missing file from Eggvine, but I forgot the link to it and what thread it was in (If someone could link me to either, I'd appreciate it). Is it actually possible to have Eggvine show exactly what the level will look like in-game while you're editing it? That'd help me out a lot, because I don't exactly "enjoy" playing trial-and-error, and Eggvine seems to require you to do that whenever you edit a level!

Are there any specific programs I need to get into Chat? Or, more specifically, see it? When I try to get onto Chat, all I see is a blank image with that weird MSPaint icon in the top-right corner where you'd normally see the (not-so) evil RED X. (No pun. Okay, maybe a little one. I need to be a little crazy every so often...) I'm assuming this means I need an external program to get on, but is this so? If so, what do I need? If not, what internet settings could possibly block this (besides popup blockers or anything like that)?

Edit: Ooookay... Nevermind about the MSPaint icon. Now it's the oh-so-annoying X. Great... What's the problem?

First off, let me say that the presentation, graphics, and new menus are great. I got to the part in the guardhouse where there was a big hole and one tile in the middle , and I didn't know what to do since I didn't have bombs or the pegasus boots. So I took the save state someone posted here and contuned on to the first dungeon. Aside from the outside glitches already posted , the dugeon difficulty is what made me quit playing (although I didn't see what was so hard about the armos knights). I just didn't have any fun in these parts, which is the core of ANY zelda game or a hack for that matter. Also, although disabling the layer to find secrets (simiular to the lens of truth in OOT) is cool, I absulutly HATE not getting a dungeon map or compass. making dugeon exploration even less fun and a hella tedious and fustrating. After all those dark rooms in Nabooru's Hole and cheap hits left and right AND bomb jumping puzzles when I only had one heart left. I gave up. I wasn't having fun.

I am in no way bashing this game, the graphis and overworld and SOME dugeons are nice. I do respect the time that Euclid and Orochimaru put into this hack, it's was just too hard for me, and not fun-hard, but fustrating-hard. Only the best can pass this without cheating ,and yeah I knew it was hard from the start, I read the first post .

My suggestions in v2.0 is that all of those bomb jumping parts shoud be eliminated altogether. And please, if possible, add a dugeon map and compass back in the dugeons. (maybe even add a little sound where there is a key in rooms like Link's Awakening's compass) and most of all try to make the hack fun. Anyways, great job, and i'm looking forward to the next release whenever it may be.

EDIT: this post bothered the hell out of me

Euclid you are the man I have waiting for this forever and it is well worth the wait.

So the F**K what. He could have spent 400 years on this, If a game (I'm talking about all games and hacks) has flaws, gliches and poor execution of it's features, then it sucks, no matter how much time was put in it. It sucks more because with all that time, those problems should have been tested and fixed. No excuses.

?!?! I, for one, like the fact that there's no map or compass. It returns the feel of the Z1 overworld, where you had no clue where to go until you found it (I actually spent hours in the Classic NES Series version just trying to find LEVEL 2), and it makes you wonder "Did I forget something in the dungeon?". With a map and compass, you generally KNOW if you forgot something. Plus, you know where the dungeon ends, so you try to make a beeline for it. If you have no clue where everything is, you spend more time searching. This usually leads to you finding something you hadn't planned on finding, but it's good anyways (like a strong item or something). So there. Plus, saying that a game is terrible because it has glitches is just DOWNRIGHT WRONG. ALL games have glitches. Even Nintendo's originals. It's just limitations, okay? They're not that big of a deal. Instead, what SHOULD'VE been said was "design glitches/flaws". THOSE are big deals, not the ones that come with the game's engine itself. Just a note.

I like this game. I have Sword, Shield, Boomerang, Flippers, Bombs, and Lamp. I'm going to find that first dungeon later, since I've been abusing savestates since I began. I keep dying when I go to Lake Saria, though. I hate the Crows constantly zooming for me faster than I can get them with my boomerang, and it seems that the Zoras keep firing before I can get away from them. Ugh... Still, nice hack. I can't wait to finish!

This destroys any fun you're having and turns it into fustration.

As for the "like the fact that there's no map or compass" thing. In my opinion, no, just no. You're talking to a Zelda-worshipper here. A compass and map in Zelda is like a save station in Metroid, there very helpful when found. unless you like aimless wandering around and finding important things to your quest not by cleverly implemented clues (like all zelda games) but by dumb luck. "Hey, after three hours of going through the same room over and over, I finally found the key, Yay."

I , for one don't.

...Let's continue this discussion via PM, okay?

I'm at Nayru's Bay, but, uh... There's something right below it on the overworld. Should I save this area for a later time? Or can I get through it fully after clearing Nayru's Bay?
